I remember dancing with a girl at the prom to this song 34 years ago. She's sitting in the chair next to me watching TV. My biggest wish in life is that our son finds the same thing.
My husband suffered a stroke 15 years ago, was diagnosed with stage 4 kidney cancer 4 years ago. The part of the song, “Whenever you need someone/to lay your heart and head upon” particularly resonates with me as he’s been such a rock and inspiration in my life. We’ll have been married 9 years next month. I love you Steve.

Oh wow. You nailed with that! I was 18. I didn't tell him how much I loved him. Big mistake! As he was about to walk out of my life forever, I called out to him and asked if we could still be friends. I couldn't bear the thought of never knowing what happened to him. I cried for him for 10 years. He would actually call me every so often. We stayed in touch. I always loved him. I never wanted to be his friend. I'm 64 now. After being friends on Facebook for 10 years with no contact (after the initial, Hi! You look great. How have you been?) I started going nuts and messaged him. I needed closure badly. We had a long talk, and we shared a lot of things we hadn't shared when we were young. It left me with a lot to think about. He was engaged at the time and he did get married. I told him I needed time to think about what he had told me. And believe me, I thought long and hard, for over a year. So, after 46 years I realized the only way I could move on was to let him go, completely. So, without warning, I unfriended him. I doubt he'll be too upset. Was there a little bit of revenge in there. Yes, but he moved on a long long time ago. Older and wiser but love still hurts. And I do take responsibility for the mistakes I made in our relationship.

When I've lost someone close to me, w heat I'll do is wait for the pain to ease a bit, and then I'll visit where they are. And then when the weather allows it, I'll take a trip to wherever I can get a good view of the night sky. And while I'm contemplating the vastness of the cosmos, I remember what many have said - that our spirits take a place amongst the stars. And at some point, I'll feel a cool breeze that I'm convinced is the spirit of the departed saying that I have not left you and never will. And then we will meet again on that distant shore in a better place. Hopefully you can find solace in this. Peace.

My high school sweetheart who was my first and I still talk to each other to this day. 50 Years later and both of us are single. We had our 1st date in 48 years in 2022. It was GREAT. Both of us have been single for over 25 years. I still love her, but we live 1850 miles apart. Wish I knew what to do!!!
I'm 33 and refuse to listen to anything after 1989 unless it's something a classic band has put out! Mötley Crüe have been my heroes since I was 3 but I also love cheap trick
R.E.M. Losing My Religion was the song of the year in 91. Great song. Not much came after that to me. I was 14 in 1977 and the list of great albums that came out that year is long. The year before was a little album titled Hotel California. What a great decade to have been a kid. In 89 I was just getting out of the Navy.
Just saw Cheap Trick in Cincinnati last night and this song was one of the big highlights. Such a beautiful tune. Cheap Trick may be one of the most underrated rock bands in US history. So damn good.
Cheap Trick - The Flame,One of the Greatest Love Songs of All Time."The Flame" is a ballad written by British songwriters Bob Mitchell and Nick Graham. The song was first offered to English singer Elkie Brooks, who turned it down, and was then released by Cheap Trick, for which it was a hit single in 1988.
Nicky, you have that right! I love Cheap Trick, The Flame and just about anything 80's! What an eclectic variety of music produced in a 10 yr. span! I don't think we'll ever see it again! The artist's and music were just so good! And the personalities and charisma! Thank God for CD's and the internet!
I've seen Cheap trick twice and get to see them again next weekend. LOVE this group. They are my husband's favorite group, and The Flame is our song. Cannot wait to see them again! Robin Zander's voice is amazing.
Wish I could go back and grow up in the 80s as a teen all over again. Met the love of my wife that I've been with 40 years. All the great concerts and music, simpler world. Just to do it again and discover songs like this all over again would be awesome
I turned 18 in 1980. I couldn't have asked to have been born at a better time! The 80's was one hell of a ride! Great music, loose women and President Reagan! Life was great! I honestly don't know how I managed to survive it! It's long gone but I have my memories and we'll always have the music!
In 1980, I turned 22...4 years older than you and my fiancee and i had broken up and i thought life was over. I still have the wedding rings he gave me in 1978. He turned out to be a drug addict on heroin...so he messed up the life of another girl and their kids. Glad it wasnt me....he just passed of a drug overdose...and we still loved each other. Love this song..
This song came out shortly after my Mom died in 1988. For me it is her song now. Our mothers are always our first girl. You'll always be the one. You were the first you'll be the last. I still can't believe you're gone.
Beautiful song. Me and my husband were blessed to see Cheap Trick, Journey, Bryan Adams, Foreigner and Heart at a two day concert events. It was awesome. The music from the 80’s is the best. ❤️❤️❤️
Met Cheap Trick several times... Rick was goofy, all of the other guys were cool....But, the first time that I met Robin, we were walking through the long backstage corridor going to the performance. He was so hot, I didn't know what to say! 🎸
@@1stand2ndtimearound67 Just FYI: The Flame was written by two British song writers. A female singer was offered this song but turned it down. Lucky for Cheap Trick and the rest of us that she did.
Every. Single. Time. Stephanie, I choke back the tears and memories flood my head with pictures I never took. I think of my high school girlfriend, Jill... and wonder what she's doing 25 years later. Tears... beautifully painful.
Probably said in the comments on here already but, Robin Zander is one of the best vocalists from that era. Very underrated as well. Still sounds amazing live as well.
Watch The CT episode of Live at Darryl's House. Zander hasn't lost a thing. Great tracks with an amazing house band. "No Direction" is mind blowingly pulled off to perfection.
I love Robin Zanders voice. This song has been one of my favorites ever since it came out. It just pops up in my brain and then I gotta watch the video again because I gotta see Robin singing it. ❤
This came out in June '88 when my newborn son's dad walked out on me. Now 33 years later my son died. This song literally breaks my heart now, the words hit different 😭💔 gregg33mom
They just don't make great music like this anymore ! These 80 power ballad songs bring back so many awesome memories. I sometimes shed a tear of joy from the good memories these songs give me .
I'm 41 and my mom introduced me to cheap trick in the 80's. This has always been one of my favorite songs ever. I won tickets to see them in 93 from the local radio station. 101.5kgb. Thanks mom 😘
This came out right after my Grandpa passed away he raised me like his own. This song brought me some comfort. When things were frightening he always made it better, wish he were here now💔😪
An old boyfriend told me this was his song to me and to think of him when I heard it. At the time I had a newborn baby with a guy who had cheated on me after the baby was born and I wanted my child to have his father so even though I cared for the other guy very much, I chose to stay with the babies father. Ive thought about him alot over the years, but lost touch with him. I recently found out that he had passed away at only 50 yrs old. It completely broke my heart to know he is gone. Hearing this song again after all these years has a different meaning for me, more so now knowing he is gone.😭💔😥 Rest easy Chris McCabe, you were and always will be in my heart.
Some people who live in our memory are more valuable than anything thing the present day has on auction. There are beautiful women and eccentric characters I will never forget. And then there is garbage I forget before I even know it’s name
This used to play at my work when I was 15. Never thought much of it back then, but after finding it again many years later, I realise it's a great song.
Omg, I absolutely love this song!! I keep playing it over and over. It goes straight to your soul!!! These were the good Ole days!!! It won't ever be like that again and I'm so glad I grew up during these times!!! Great memories!!!
The 80s were truly special, and it's intriguing to consider that their uniqueness might be amplified by the fact that those times are gone - almost as if their special quality is eternal precisely because they are no more.
I feel this.. I still fight w/ my family everytime I see them.. I’m broken because of them but nothing w/ out them.. take care and May God bless you like he has done for me ;]
The Music of the 80's & 90's was the best, in terms of writings, delivery, feelings, & instrumental presentations. Today's Millennials have absolutely no clue about things in general. Those were times where artist; regardless of musical taste, had to play their instruments & perform @ the same time. I've built a "Time Ship" & I'm going back to the 80's on a one way trip! There's plenty of room, anyone wanna come along?
Hands down my very favorite Cheap Trick song. Saw you play it live on NAS Corpus Christi many years ago and was awesome! Thank you for remaining true to your music. I grew up in southern WI very near Rockford. I REALLY wanted to come to one of your concerts when I was in high school. My mother wouldn't let me go because you were playing with Supertramp and when I asked she got mad. "You are NOT going to see a cheap trick or a super tramp!" Never thought about the names before she said that. Every time we go back home to WI there is always a Cheap Trick song playing on the radio and it just makes my heart happy. Thank you for so many years of great music.
@@javelin1010 I was there for both the 70s and 80s and they both ruled although the 80s beats it out in terms of the sheer number of memorable melodies that were created during that time and are still being played to this day.
Kelly, be very careful what you wish for, Love and Pain are two sides of the same coin. the GREATER the LOVE, the deeper the Pain cuts when something happens...

I was born in 1960 and I have to honestly say in my opinion that the music from the '50's, 60's, 70's, and 80's had a huge impact on my upbringing. Just for the fact it had such great talent. I honestly like a big diverse amount of talent from the 4 era's except for a choice few groups. I will leave it at that but I truly like Cheap Trick for the fact Robin has an amazing voice.

Some day Mr Steven, you are going to be very very happy again, to see your Flame coming back from that long sleep, once and ever...someday...
My dad died today due to cancer and this was his favorite song . R.I.P Dad, I love you!
Es lo unico
En su memoria❤❤❤
Emery Concha RIP to your dad ❤️
Oh gee I'm so sorry ,,God Bless You
Im so sorry for your loss.
One of the most hauntingly beautiful and heartbreaking songs ever written.
this song is the story of my life - every lyric i have lived it
Forever this song will be locked in my heart ❤️ It kept me alive and dreaming.
“ You were the first, you’ll be the last!” Love that line!
Thank you
Real talk
Jojo reference
My high school sweetheart who was my first and I still talk to each other to this day. 50 Years later and both of us are single. We had our 1st date in 48 years in 2022. It was GREAT. Both of us have been single for over 25 years. I still love her, but we live 1850 miles apart. Wish I knew what to do!!!
At 28 years old, this is my all time favorite song. I love music from the 70's - 80's. The "musicians" nowadays need to take notes.
I'm 33 and refuse to listen to anything after 1989 unless it's something a classic band has put out! Mötley Crüe have been my heroes since I was 3 but I also love cheap trick
Saw Motley Crue in concert with Hinder. Great show! ☺
i get to see heart, chip trick and Joan jett live in one concert this August
R.E.M. Losing My Religion was the song of the year in 91. Great song. Not much came after that to me. I was 14 in 1977 and the list of great albums that came out that year is long. The year before was a little album titled Hotel California. What a great decade to have been a kid. In 89 I was just getting out of the Navy.
im used to 70s80s music, kids now paying $200.00 - 300.00 for concerts, i dont remember seeing 10 year olds at concerts
This song gives me chills from head to toe!
Pure emotion, this song . Nothing wasted. Their best. Big respect for them. Hard working . Never saw it go to their heads.
Just saw Cheap Trick in Cincinnati last night and this song was one of the big highlights. Such a beautiful tune. Cheap Trick may be one of the most underrated rock bands in US history. So damn good.
I just seen them at blossom 2 weeks ago... unbelievable
I don't know how many hundreds of times I've heard this song... it NEVER gets old. What a classic.
Edward Wayne Wilkins Jr. your Love Playlist is freaking perfect!
Thanks Beautiful, Glad you Liked it, Friend me on Facebook It You Like.
Edward Wayne Wilkins Jr. that's exactly right
One of the best love songs ever written
This just never gets old. 2020 or the 80’s. Never be music as good as this
You've got that right! Hail the 80's! I wanna go back! 😭
Definitely. I like many of their songs. I also like mighty wings
Never gets old
This has always been my fav cheap trick song I remember when this was new
I've seen Cheap trick twice and get to see them again next weekend.
70s - 80s music the best of times...
I turned 18 in 1980. I couldn't have asked to have been born at a better time! The 80's was one hell of a ride! Great music, loose women and President Reagan! Life was great! I honestly don't know how I managed to survive it!
It's long gone but I have my memories and we'll always have the music!
Wish I was around in the 80s, I was Born in 88
Yup, same age.
RIP
Beautiful song. Me and my husband were blessed to see Cheap Trick, Journey, Bryan Adams, Foreigner and Heart at a two day concert events. It was awesome. The music from the 80’s is the best. ❤️❤️❤️
Wow what a lineup 😮❤
Who's still listening to this in quarantine 2020? Just the ones with a great taste in music!
Me
Jimmy Meas me!!!
Absolutely brilliant now and then
Me ✋
Jimmy Meas I am
Why can't music be like this again? Great vocals, great meaning, great presences.
I dont care what anyone says. The 80s was the best music. No agendas thrown at you. No talent less hacks. Just real music with emotion and feeling.
I'm glad that I got to grow up in that time.
The 40s were better jackass.
+Ali A unless you were a Jew in Europe
Excellent point and I am actually part Jewish.
Dr. James Arthur White II hats off to ALL the Jews and israelis.. I love you guys and never 4get that UR the APPLE OF GOD'S EYE :D
A song that will still be playing on the radio in 50 years! A music eargasm.
The 80s music never dies! I still love this song ❤
First love never dies...ahhmmm
It rocked, for sure.
Met Cheap Trick several times... Rick was goofy, all of the other guys were cool....But, the first time that I met Robin, we were walking through the long backstage corridor going to the performance. He was so hot, I didn't know what to say! 🎸
Nice to see someone with the same surname as my prime minister.
One of the best ever from Cheap Trick.. "You were the first, you'll be the last" what a great line. from 1988 and still great in 2021...
One of the best ballads ever
@@stoneyj1a1 Yes, indeed..
@@1stand2ndtimearound67 Just FYI: The Flame was written by two British song writers. A female singer was offered this song but turned it down. Lucky for Cheap Trick and the rest of us that she did.
@@thomasluby1754 Thank you!
1988 was a truly great year. By then Tom Pererson was back in good standing withtn CT.
There are lots of great Ballads in the 80s and this is definitely one of them 😍💋❤️🔥
100% Agree
This is our song. We met at Hammerjacks, got married 6 months later, in 1988. I love this song, it definitely defines our life, married 34 years
Damn it brings memories of the 80s
80s good is good ❤
Loved the 80's....best of times!!
💯 agree
Anyone else ball their eyes out to this? it's just so evocative. I miss the eighties so much.
80s was the best time for music for me as well
Now my eyes just watered up.
Yes I do the same 😭😭😭
they say never look back but i can't help but think of the 80's what a magical time we can never have back
Every. Single.
Oh the memories this song brings back 🎶 Thank you Cheap Trick 👍🏻😊🎸
This song never gets old. I still chills
Me too!
My cassette tape TC. I do.
Omg me too abt once a year I look this up yup still rocking. The band slaughter grew up like 45 min from me in mn
This came out in June '88 when my newborn son's dad walked out on me. Now 33 years later my son died. This song literally breaks my heart now, the words hit different 😭💔 gregg33mom
Es igual que un buen vino, sabe mejor con los años.
I will never get tired of hearing this song. Long live the 80s.
Great decade for music.
Escucho esta música desde mi niñez. Ya hoy con 54 la sigo escuchando..Rd
They just don't make great music like this anymore ! These 80 power ballad songs bring back so many awesome memories. I sometimes shed a tear of joy from the good memories these songs give me .
conditions unknown...Yes! those 'power ballads'. So many!!! Boomer Generation!!! The best music ever!
I know how you feel.
The 80s music is literally a healing tonic from the shithole the world is now and permanently.
Don't worry you are not the only one.
yes 👍
I'm 41 and my mom introduced me to cheap trick in the 80's. This has always been one of my favorite songs ever. I won tickets to see them in 93 from the local radio station. 101.5kgb. Thanks mom 😘
When I hear this song it takes me back to being when was the happiest. With my first wife who passed away almost 27 years ago
This came out right after my Grandpa passed away he raised me like his own. This song brought me some comfort. When things were frightening he always made it better, wish he were here now💔😪
This is the definition of a rock ballad
In addition these song undeniably a huge anthem to love.
For sure!!!
Definitely - no ifs or buts. Whenever I hear the term "Rock Ballad", I immediately think of this track.
Wow, well it's better to have loved and lost than.....no, it sucks all around.
Oh my God so sorry 😭😭😭😭
excelent post what a story i am sure he was a great guy nice post❤👏
Some people who live in our memory are more valuable than anything thing the present day has on auction. There are beautiful women and eccentric characters I will never forget. And then there is garbage I forget before I even know it’s name
@@edwardedwards6785 death is final tho. And its sad.
This used to play at my work when I was 15. Never thought much of it back then, but after finding it again many years later, I realise it's a great song.
Especially when you had to hear it several times during the night shift
How many Legends listening to this Masterpiece in March 2024!
Cheap Trick is nominated for the 2016 Rock n Roll of Fame, deservedly so. Good luck CT!
hello..
+Robin Long Easily!!
+Robin Long Congrats to Cheap Trick, Deep Purple and Chicago! Finally some great Rock is getting into the Hall!
+DBKetch Yeah right?! Those 3 were exactly my picks too! Chicago way long overdue! (I mean, Madonna got in before them? smh!) Yay CT!
Robin Long
Dont get me wrong but Madonna is good but better than CT....gag me LOL!
ANOTHER TIMELESS CLASSIC!! 80'S MUSIC RULES!! the dj
The best ballad ever, in my opinion. Glad I got to see these guys in 1980 at the Calgary Stampede Corral.
Gosh...I'm missing the 80's music so much. The world was a much better place.
who in the world and how in the world can this song get 6k thumbs down??????????this ballad is one of the best songs EVER recorded...period!!
Justin beaver fans most probably.
Just remember, some people ain't got no sense.
Some people have better taste in music.
@@comikdebris it's obviously you dont.
@David Roberts no ones keeping you here. mind your head on the way out.
Music in the 80s was the BEST
Just an incredible track , right up there with the greatest songs ever written
Hi I Recommend an indie song called 'the bond villain' By Robert Nix
One of the most beautiful songs of all time! Sometimes for whatever reasons we can’t be with our flames but the fire 🔥 still burns forever
Mis: Try High Enough( DAMN YANKEES).BIG 10 dealing vocals and the guitar touches the heart really.
I feel this.. I still fight w/ my family everytime I see them.. I’m broken because of them but nothing w/ out them..
take care and May God bless you like he has done for me ;]
Yes it was
Is because real love never dies 💕
Jean Marie Nadal thanks for the tip, definitely will check it out 😄
The Music of the 80's & 90's was the best, in terms of writings, delivery, feelings, & instrumental presentations. Today's Millennials have absolutely no clue about things in general. Those were times where artist; regardless of musical taste, had to play their instruments & perform @ the same time. I've built a "Time Ship" & I'm going back to the 80's on a one way trip! There's plenty of room, anyone wanna come along?
Santiago Murillo I do
I hear You
Let's go!
Fuck yeah man I'm an '80's guy and I'll jump right aboard that '80's 'Time Ship'-just make sure I don't have to return to 2019.
Eita, meu Deus! Obrigado por crescer nos anos 80! Anos 80 a era de ouro da música!
One of the greatest songs of all time
Hands down my very favorite Cheap Trick song.
The 80s ruled!
The flame is a tender ballad of a boy who tells a girl he will always be there for her because his love (flame) forever burns bright.
no the 70's ruled. You just had to be there.
@@javelin1010 I was there for both the 70s and 80s and they both ruled although the 80s beats it out in terms of the sheer number of memorable melodies that were created during that time and are still being played to this day.
the flame.. I want one! My opinion is it's one of the greatest Love Songs... Ever...Ever..n ever!
Kelly, be very careful what you wish for, Love and Pain are two sides of the same coin. the GREATER the LOVE, the deeper the Pain cuts when something happens...
+steven wicks hi Steven..if wishes were fishes.. the seas would be full?
I agree.
rock and roll bands of the 80s wrote tthe best love songs of all time.
steven wickes: Very well said sir, I couldn't agree more.
Geeze i am "Old!" I remember this song when first released! 😅😅😅😅😅
This song reminds me of my late Son,born in the 80's,it was a unexpected death. But he is my everything, he loved music. He has left a beautiful family.2 young children. He would text me songs all the time this is 1 he would of,great song!
I was born in 64 we had it so good especially the music... Know it all n still listen to it daily
Well im jealous I was born in 2001 haha
Welcome aboard bro, 🤗🤗👍👍
aaaa was tererga TX ca q
I was born in the 70’s and I’d prefer listening to the music of 50’s up to the 90’s ,and for me were far too good to listen to,and how lucky I was to grow up into these kind of music.🥰🥰🥰❤️🇵🇭🇦🇺
Why dont they make such music today? People living in the 80s were so lucky.
You're right. I was a teenager in the 80's. It was an awesome time and the music was the best. I just wish I had realized
it at the time.
It was a great time to be a teenager. Ditto that SuperDave3556. We didn't know how good we had it!! So many classics!!!
I cant think of any other music that has influences so many other musicians. More 80s songs have been redone than the 50s, 60,s and 70s combined,
I've seen the 50's til now and no other decade comes close to the eighties. I knew in 1990 that things would never be like that again.
I WAS BORN IN 1999 AND I LOVE THIS MUSIC OF THE 80'S
One of the greatest songs of all time.
I saw them in August of 1980 at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas tx. Found out i was pregnant with my baby girl that day. She was in a fatal car accident July 29th 1999. We use to ride around and play this a sing it among others. I play this song every day. Peace
The more time that passes by, the better that the 80s become!
Lost my wife to lupus last week. This song takes on a new meaning.
So sorry for your loss brother. Cherish the memories. 💙
Mr.Wade I am truly sorry for ur pain.I lost my brother in law recently that was his n my sisters song.I do feel ur pain n pray God gives u grace n peace..Take care of u..Michelle
Peace and Prayers to you and your family
So sorry for your lost brother! I will pray for you.
sorry for your loss sir....
This is one of those songs I can listen to over & over it never gets old.
One of the most iconic songs of the unforgettable 80´s!!!!!
Tengo 34 años..soy del 88 y creo que desde que tengo conciencia ame los 80 ....me dicen que soy una vieja pero no me importa tengo cultura musical les digo jaja que vuelvan los 80 que vuelva la buena música ..
I lost my kids' father and my partner of 7 years to brain cancer last March. This song hits extra hard now.
"I can't believe you're gone..."
"You'll always be the one..."
Power ballad, nobody does these anymore. Good stuff.
Actually Bullet for my valentine does some decent ballads.
They suck.Couldn't hold a candle to Cheap Trick.
+sandra petrowski cheap trick all time greatest
sandra petrowski uig
gregkut1 I miss my life today it sucks
I fondly remember this - the Summer of 1988 - a Number 1 classic when music was still relevant.
summer of 88 was the best. last summer before i graduated. those memories are branded into my soul.
Wonderful song. But as a few I’m sure have already said it brings tears to my eyes because of how I lost my husband. I used to always play this one for him. But now I have no one to play it for anymore. RIP my sweet Ray
Tengo 51 años y sigo drisfrutandola como la primera vez que la escuché aguanten los 80 carajo... y que vuelvan los lentos ...
