Mike Bones Live at Pompeii was filmed in the fall of 1971 and released nearly a year later in 1972. That 1974 version was a re-release with about 20 mins. of additional footage, shot at some point during the recording of DSOTM.
I adore this tune in any form and fashion.. bUt- i have to say that the version from the video-live in Gdansk is glorious!! Seriously improved with age and experience!!
I remember being extremely disappointed this was dropped from the setlist in 1987 by the time the tour reached my city. I had looked forward to seeing this so much having absorbed and lived the Pompeii version for years when i was in middle and high school in the early 80's. Frankly seeing this now I am a bit taken back how sedate and uninspired it seems. Probably I'm not the only one who thinks this since it was dropped in the end. I did have the privilege to see Echoes performed on David's "Island" tour at Radio City Music Hall together with Rick, but no Nick of course. For me, the Pompeii version still stands alone as singular achievement in live performance.

This was a soundcheck, I believe. Note how David and Rick switch vocal harmonies. They're abridging it as well. This wasn't meant for a particular audience but it's an interesting gem nonetheless. Also, Davids blond Strat is my favorite of his. He apparently really liked it's sound but thought it was ugly so started using the red Strat instead. Just a fun fact

They both sing lead vocals. The thing that is changed is that David sings the high harmony and Rick the low.
