Movie is a pretty big exaggerated compliment for a short yotube video about a dog getting lost inside a fort that just shows up somehow after being lost for days and has no real ending except for look at this black box. You should probably just keep that one empty box in the closet with the window open while every other piece of cardboard is cleaned up and folded.
How else would we ever get a nail-biting sequel to this masterpiece?

The dog may not die but you don't know that until the very end so for all intent, and purpose, it did. I'd much rather see one of the kids disappear since you know they're more likely to return than the gratuitously dispensable canine.

    • @MalkuthSephira
      @MalkuthSephira Před rokem +3

@@jenniferd107 i... don't think "we had to worry about the dog" is the same as the dog actually dying. i think two fundamentally different things are two different things.
what do you mean "gratuitously dispensable canine"? dogs in horror usually have better odds than humans, though there are definitely exceptions to that. you seem like you just... took for granted that the dog was for sure dead, even though we really did not know yet. like... if you think everyone was assuming the dog died just because you apparently did, then i hate to break it to you, but people exist who did not have that experience, and i think there were more of us than there were you.
also if one of them disappeared instead i think their reactions would have been very different. e.g. you might call 911 because your sister or whatever vanished, and that would instantly change the shape of things. so it's not like you can just substitute characters and have the same story. a dog (seemingly running off, even if that wasn't what actually happened) being lost somehow for hours or even a day and then coming back or being found is pretty realistic and honestly has happened at least once to most people who have had dogs.

Haven't finished but want to give a round of applause for the common sense. Before she stood up in the fort, I asked myself why is she crawling like she's in a man made concrete sewer pipe?
    Then she stood up.
Then she took the fort down without explaining or waking anyone up. This is more realistic than many films I've watched. And I watch a lot.

too bad that nothing scary actually _does_ happen...
This kinda elevates the "fake out scare" genre to a whole new level. For a horror movie to work there needs to be a payout, you spend time building up the creepy atmosphere only so that during the payout the scary action has a bigger impact.
If you have no payout, nothing scary and no action, the entirely thing falls like building a house of cards just to not put the roof ontop at the end but instead flip the table and it all come tumbling down.

This is a perfect example of why H.P. Lovecraft stories still read perfect 100 years later. Those writings rely on conjuring the horror in your mind. Once it's presented in a concrete visual, it usually never works as well - there are a few exceptions like the short "Other Side of the Box" which goes with this one quite well. Also "Bedfellows" and "Do You See It Too".

    WARNING SPOILER!!!
The boxes must've had some connections to a different realm. This is greatly hinted, or as I believe it to be, how her dog went missing for like 2 days and never made a single sound inside the box maze for anyone to recognize. Furthermore, the female who crawled inside the boxes took a long time to transverse through the empty maze. Theo had also seemingly moved away from her voice when she called out to him, further and further. The other point id like to make is the fact that whatever was inside that box fort was also something crawling in it to. It made crawling sounds that kinda scratched the interior, dogs that relate to the size of Theo couldn't possibly make that much noise. As a confirmation, Theo ended up in the box inside the closet. Why wasn't he found inside the dismantled boxes she was putting up? Also, Theo, when she called to him, seemed to have made whimpering sounds. Those whimperz weren't ever heard from anybody during the search. To keep this theory short, I'd like to believe that this short horror creation might even have been influenced by H.P Lovecraft or even Steven King. Both amazing comics horror authors who talk so much detail about inter dimensional beings.

I believe you're onto something, the director was trying to convey something by having the girl find an open window next to the opening of the box fort/ last box not disassembled. Whatever the girls did inadvertently let something into the fort, whether it's something from outside that snuck in or if the fort itself acted as an open window I couldn't say for sure. However, the act of closing the window and covering the entrance to the box fort may have been a clue as to how the dog returned. After removing the box fort, similar to closing a window, the entity was compelled to give up its hunt. Whether it was unable to affect the real world anymore or had to flee to avoid being trapped without an exit, who knows? Good horror short.

Because if it’s was a demon or any kind of bad entity no one was harmed in anyway and the dog come back unharmed.

I think this is such a masterpiece (atleast in my opinion) because the whole thing could have had a rational explanation, it even gave a possible explanation of the dog going through the window. It is the fact that it was so realistic that made it so eerie and horrifying. maybe it was because it never broke the immersion. It relied on the ever encroaching feeling of dread rather than the cheap scares, which just makes you all the more paranoid.

I saw the thumbnail for this video and wondered: what's so scary about a cardboard box fort? I used to make things out of cardboard all the time as a kid... but as I kept thinking about it, I looked up the concept and chanced upon an online viewing of the movie "Dave Made a Maze" before watching this short film properly. There's just so much potential in the concept, and now I am wondering why it wasn't considered for horror sooner. After all, everywhere I made cardboard crafts, whoever was in charge of the daycare I was in always insisted the activity should either be done outside or kept in just one room of the building. My whole life, I assumed that was because my elders just didn't want us kids making a mess, but maybe there's more to it then just that. Maybe, just maybe, there's a superstitious, supernatural reason behind it too.

The cinematography, acting, music, and dialogue were all fantastic. These actors are so believable - from their expressions, to their clothes, to their mannerisms. This kind of vague horror (you never clearly see any demon or another universe, but you definitely see evidence of the existence of both) is always my favorite because it is so effective - it is all so normal and so mundane and yet....jolting. To me, it sends the message that all true horror media sends: "This too can happen to you."

I like how the film plot leaves some space for speculations about the origins of these strange events. It suggests guessing whether they were natural or not and makes the hair stand on end if the second option is assumed. Also, the idea of passing the suspense through the possibility of non-euclidean space existence and its inhabiting creatures...well, that's just totally something Phillips Lovecraft would tip his hat to. I find such things very unique and the last time I was that impressed by horror film ideas was after watching "Lights Out" and "Terrified" movies. "Box Fort" adaptation is amazing! Real shame it has been seen by fewer people than it actually deserves, but I hope you will carry on filming similar sketches. Good luck, man.

Ay so what if the box fort was a way to cross in-between dimensions and when Theo went in he somehow got stuck in the other. So when the girl went in she was hearing Theo's whines, meaning she would also be stuck in that dimension. Then she had the encounter with the demon and before she had any chance of going back she broke the fort. So now her and the dog are stuck in that dimension. But there is the box in the closet to use ig. But idk this seems like it was not intended in the short film but hey, that's just a theory, a HORROR SHORT FILM THEORY!

this is masterfully shot and i do really like so many parts about this movie:
the ominous use of black nothingness inside the fort builds suspense
the use of open windows and things just showing up after being lost along with random noises around the house is unsettling
the foreboding all throughout builds up in a way that you expect to see something happen and then at the end all you see is a still shot with an open window lets you draw your own conclusions
it’s not an overtly super scary movie but the way it builds suspense and nothing happens keeps you on your toes

This was a truly terrifying one. There’s a pretty good reason why to. If you want the short answer, just read this: I don’t like the unknown, and also not being able to see things that can see you.
Long answer: so I have a theory. every person has something that they are very scared of I mean, obviously, but really what I mean is some people are very afraid of not knowing the answer to something so if there was a horror movie, where you never figured out exactly what it was but you knew that it was going to kill you. Somebody who is afraid of not knowing the answer to something would be way more scared of that movie.
