I just tried my first mica shift and it worked! Thank you for this, and all of your tutorials. I really enjoy watching and trying them. Hands down my favorite is the Starry Night, I've done that one a few times and love what I get every time. Keep on rockin' the tutorials!

Such beautiful pieces!! I can't wait to get started. I have been putting off making anything that I actually need to use my pasta machine for because when I 1st got it in the mail it wasn't working right, it wasn't put together properly. And so my husband had to take it apart and put it back together. And it just never really worked right. My clay continues to get stuck in or on the blazed and makes a mess out of my clay. We just can't get it fixed. :(
So I guess I'm just going to have to buy a new one and it was an inexpensive one, so now that has me worried about buy the less expensive ones and I'm looking to get a higher end machine. Maybe I could get by with another inexpensive one ,but like I said it just worries me that I'm wasting money. Anyway, so sorry didn't mean to ramble on. Thank you so much for sharing all of your beautiful work.
I like to buy cheap pasta machines from ebay. I usually get the Jamie Oliver one. That one works really well for a cheap pasta machine.

I've watched and enjoyed many of your tutorials. My big question is what kind of birds do you have? I have 6 parrots and every time I hear a bird in the background of your video my ears perk up.

Lol. I don’t actually
own any birds. A bunch of wild parrots all like to sit outside my room on the balcony
and make a rumpus at the worst moments. Got to love them though.
I'm in Canada, so no wild parrots for me. When winter comes and most of the birds have migrated and the house is closed-up, I love the chatter of our indoor-birds.
How ironic is this, I was just asking you about this stamp the other day!!! Another great place for beginner stamps is on Etsy.com, I believe it is called ArtisticRenderings. I have bought 3 and they work great!
Hi I am a complete newbie to clay. I have watched so many tutorials trying to get the confidence to actually unwrap my clay and get started. I do not understand the mica shift idea. Why use such a deep stamp if you are just going to take of the bumpy areas. Wouldn't it make more sense to do a shallow stamp and call it a day ? Thanks for your patience when you answer my query !!
By using a shallow stamp and leaving it at that, you're creating a textured piece. Mica shift it to imitate the look of texture while being completely flat. This requires you to shave off the surface and so using a deeper stamp makes that easier.

Would this work with opal clay? I realize that opal is not a mica clay, but would the opal flakes work similarly?
No. It won't work with opal clay. The flakes aren't the same and aren't really small enough either. Was a good idea, but I don't think it will work.

But I can't find the link you mention about mica clays, I am puzzled by your mixing translucent and metallic clay ..?

I've seen this subject on many videos...I've got the mica part...however I still wonder why it's called a "shift"?
That's a good question. I don't know the answer for sure, but I think it's got to do with the fact that we're shifting the mica particles when we're doing the mica shift.

Are you sanding before applying resin?
Yes. I always sand before using resin. The only time I don't sand my pieces is when I have surface effects on them which might get sanded off.

Fabulous pattern! Why shave it?
Shaving it reveals the flat pattern. If you didn't shave it and tried to flatten it, you'd lose the pattern.

I can't afford any stamps so I just use some embossing sheets when they are on sale but I REALLY want some Paisley stamps. I've always loved those
