My First memory of this song is literally being entertained on a school bus with the call and response. Probably about 1995. Its mind blowing to learn that was the songs original intent.

"Tonight Is The Night I Fell Asleep At The Wheel" is my favorite BNL song also!

BNL is more than Stephen Page, but BNL isn't BNL without Stephen Page.

I remember stumbling out of the Horseshoe one day and bumping into Ed with his acoustic and Jim with that big ass standup bass, the two justa buskin’ away in some Queen St. store front, one of those sheltered ones, where the front door is recessed, it was winter after all...I listened to them for a time, what a hoot, then gave ’em a ten spot and some hash too I think and said “youze guys are gonna be big some day”. Look at me Colonel Parker then. The rest be history. Still have that yellow tape too, the “rare” one. Say what you want about the Ladies, hard working musicians who paid their dues and made it.

I always loved this song too, Ed! And I have enjoyed it at several BNL concerts!

I loved it when I found a copy of this song on a 45rpm record! Since then I also got BNLs "Original Hits Original Stars" on vinyl which has this song and so many other great songs!

Ed should be having this conversation with Steve... It's just as simple as that 😕

I agree. As much as Tyler is a part of the song. This was Ed and Steven's connection moment.

  • @RyanWright11

Great conversation. I first saw BNL in Sault Ste Marie in 1991. The Yellow Tape was being sold off the stage. The Waltons opened. I remember Manchu Wok being part of the improv. Still a massive fan to this day. But I do miss Steve being part of the group. I wish both BNL and Steve the biggest of successes and I hope that the Big Bang Theory stuff gets sorted out soon, and that the band reunites for at least one more time.

I could never really take this band seriously being in Toronto in a band myself in the 90s. Then again, life's not supposed to be serious all the time.

Page was the main ingredient of the Barenaked ladies just like yeast is the main ingredient of bread. In each case if you remove the main ingredient all you have is a flop.

I have to believe the large amount of money they would make for a reunion tour will bring them together. It happens so much in popular music its cliche. C'mon boys!

This song is iconic to me because I retired from Kraft Foods where I made 1 billion servings of mac n' cheese. The Canadian version is superior, btw.
