- When Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl came out, many people tried to have a fun first playthrough. Me? I decided to defeat all of Sinnoh with just a Bidoof?

Just a minor thing, because they've combined affection and friendship, and they've apparently buffed it from previous games with affection, it's changed from a nice thing you get for treating your Pokemon extra nice, to everyone else in this region musr be actively abusing their Pokemon for you to have the only Pokemon that do this
honestly the affection mechanic would be way funnier if your rival, gym leaders, the champion, and especially the evil team leader all used it. imagine cyrus' crobat toughing it out so that he wouldn't be sad

@@Akakiryuushin As far as I know, none of Cyrus' Pokémon use Frustration, which would be a sure way to tell if he is treating them badly. Ghetsis' Hydreigon in Black/White 2 famously uses a max power Frustration as one of its moves, so you know he is abusing it... But Ghetsis is also made out to be one of the most evil antagonists in all of Pokémon.

Friendship was pokemon leaning more into easymode. Like, they lowered the exp gain alright, but now if you're under leveled it matters a lot less because of a non full HP sturdy proc.

@@ActualTinkashadow I'd agree but Pokémon was always for kids and I think everyone everywhere would agree it was a smash hit and a mega success without being watered down to nothing. Kids these days are more resourceful than ever too. "Too hard for kids" is some nonsense made up by people who don't remember being kids and still destroying harder games.
Also, kids always have google in their pocket now. If anything, they should make it harder because we know the second a kid gets "stuck" they're on CZcams looking at tutorials, not spending days and weeks backtracking looking for what they missed to progress.

That last attempt on Cynthia, that's like a Shonen anime protag's plot armor. When you needed it most, and on your very final attempt as you were wearing down, the power of your friendship with Bidoof pulled through. Very well done, even if a good portion of that last attempt, was rng in your favor through friendship

42:55 honchkrow uses defog because all of Cyrus team is VERY week to stealth rock (all of them takes 25% of their life with it). So defog is here to prevent rocks being present on the ground. So yeah...

About the Dig TM thing, the TMs that aren’t sold in the department store are found in the underground from shard shops and just randomly around.
So does it mean that each and every TM is "infinite"? Or moreso can be gotten infinitely?

I think Lucario is the designated Ice/Fairy killer in Cynthia's team, the remover of the greatest threat to Garchomp. You reveal Ice Beam and it comes charging right in.
Also, garchomp has a berry which reduces ice damage, so it can still knock your ice attacker mon

"The power of friendship!" was also my exact reaction when winning with affection shenanigans. Its just like the anime, too.
It's also another probabilistic variable you can influence in a probability based game.

The game was telling you all along what you had to do to win that final fight. The plot armour, the power of friendship... all you had to do was say the words. Say the words "this is my last try", and you'd win.

16:20 Like to make a little correction here. In BDSP, affection is not tied to hearthome and having pokemon follow you, but instead tied to happiness level now, making it mandatory. You can test this for yourself at the start of your game. Walk around with your starter fresh from the suitcase for 25k steps or so, and it will show affection
Can confirm, I never even knew about the Pokémon following you mechanic and was just trying to get max friendship and every party member starting dodging attacks and surviving on 1 HP lol.

@@longliverocknroll5 that's fair. I don't mean to hate on anyone who did buy the game, just that I think I wouldn't enjoy it. I got really annoyed by the mechanic in let's go, and felt like it made the champion fight super anticlimactic and boring for me.
@@CyberchaoX I mean, you'd still have the option to flee any/every non-mandatory battle. That alone would keep your levels quite low. Likewise, with how much money the games have started giving you you COULD always just let all your Pokemon except the one you want to use get KO'd and do all your healing via items. Since they wouldn't gain XP while knocked out, it'd be easy to re-KO them after every auto-heal (outside certain areas/encounters,) and you could call the PP limitations an extra difficulty challenge.
I've been playing since Gen 1, and personally, for me the Pokemon games are comfort food. They're not necessarily challenging per se, but I feel like they've been working more toward making the games feel accessible more than anything else, and I feel that in that regard they're doing great.

The EXP thing isn't gen 5 onward, it changed back to a set number in gen 6, then back to level difference in gen 7 and 8.
Honestly, I didn't realize gen 7 and 8 did that. I thought the level difference thing was exclusive to gen 5.

Watching it live on stream was so exciting, getting there at the end and the manner of how it happens just make it even better
I'm glad you're using the friendship mechanic. A lot of people call it cheap and dumb, but it's now a mechanic and we should embrace that.
The other reason why the friendship thing is fine is that... it's an intended mechanic. So of course you should use it! If the badge boost glitch is fine, because it's so baked into the game that it's basically an accidental main mechanic, then something like friendship tanking is completely buena.
Double team is also an intended mechanic though. From what i understand (and sorry if i am wrong) you get to choose whether pokemon follow you (and therefore raise their affection like that easily). You GET the choice whether you use it or not and badge boost glitch.. you don't... (which i think should also not be allowed apart from the unintentional uses that are out of your control-it should just be treated as a critical hit, sometimes you get it and sometimes you don't). I just feel like the rules he sets up to make the challenge interesting are getting nullified by all those "shortcuts" he takes.
In all honestly i would much rather have him use these "cheaty" tactics only when that is the last viable sollution, or just limit yourself to 1 double team and only use it when you have to etc. In my view it would make it more true to what he wants to achieve with these challenges, but i guess that's just me.
Ok so, doing just a tiny more research.. I found out after you raise your friendship your affection will have an effect aswell regardless whether you have your pokemon out.... (according to people in comments which contradicted with my short google search but more people here are saying that so i believe it) In that case i suppose it is fine since it is unavoidable just like that badge boost glitch. Didn't want to delete my comment though as it still provided my perspective on those "cheaty" strategies-in quotation marks cuz they are not really cheats just are not in the spirit of the challenge imo.
I feel like friendship is OK to rely on in a solo run because it's basically impossible not to trigger it, similar to the badge boost glitch.
My only problem with the mechanic is that NPC trainers can't use it. Which is kinda understandable since it would be frustrating to lose battles because your opponent's pokemon randomly decided to become invincible, but it has the weird implication that apparently you are the only person in the world that treats your pokemon nicely.
@@AlteredNova04 personally don't find it to bad because this game isn't so difficult either way till you reach the league. The league is actually competitively built with useful held items, good to perfect iv's and ev's, have hidden abilities, and of course the actually uses full restores. So in a solo run i doubt the mechanic that no matter what you can't control will make much of a difference.
@@AlteredNova04 it isn't important and I wouldn't expect people to think of this and intentionally do it and whatnot but it is actually possible to lower your pokemon's friendship by using the herb shop in eterna city, as stuff like the energy powder and revival herb do lower your pokemon's friendship.
They got rid of affection in Let's go, and tied those mechanics to the old friendship mechanics, they kept the affection removal in Sword/Shield and just made it so your friendship caps at 179/255 unless you interact with pokemon camp or friendship berries, so you dont see the affection mechanics randomly in sword/shield. In BD/SP they removed this soft friendship cap, which mean unless you kill your pokemon or feed it bitter herbs regularly you get the previously affection-based random focus band/lum berry/crit/dodge activations.
That little bidoof really wasn't trying to let you down lmao. I'll never be a bidoof fan, but Peanutbutter? Respect.

Nice to see you covering the Sinnoh remakes! Just an advice for future BDSP challenges: You can actually battle the Water-type Gym before the Fighting-type Gym, which could've probably saved you some trouble against Maylene.
I tried beating BDSP with a Piplup and today was the day i (finally) reached the elite 4 after roughly 16 hours of ingame time. The biggest obstacles so far were Gardenia and the final rival battle. I had to level up to level 90 to even have a chance against the rival. The elite 4 is a different story. Aaron is usually not a problem but Berthas Wiscash can lower my already awful speed and then Golem will outspeed and use Earthquake twice (because sturdy) to take me out. So i leveled up all the way to 100 to be able to one shot the Wiscash with Surf. But then comes Flint. His Lopunny knows Mirror coat and his iron fist Infernape has thunderpunch and holds a sash. I can work around that with drill peck and rely on bad ai decisions to secure victory. But Lucian is just sheer impossible. Mr. Mime will always set up a lightscreen so i'm not gonna one shot anything with surf. His Giraffe uses Trick room and thunderbolt and his Medicham usually finishes me with Hi Jump Kick. I highkey think BDSP with only Piplup is impossible, don't try this at home.

Here's how i beat Cynthia: On her Spiritomb i used Grass Knot and took it to half health. This may seem odd but it will make her switch into Roserade, allowing me to get rid of her biggest threat with Ice Beam. Next up is Gastrodon so i set up 3 work ups because it can barely hurt me with 2 rock tombs and 1 earthquake. The speeddrops only mattered against Milotic and i was still outspeeding Gastrodon and Spiritomb. After killing Gastrodon with Grass Knot she brings Spiritomb back in. Surf is enough to deal with it and out comes Lucario. I'm at almost 200HP because of leftovers so the AI decides to set up Nasty Plot but Lucario also goes down to one Surf. Milotic is next and it did little damage with Scald before getting one shot by Grass Knot. Lastly Garchomp comes out. I was at around 180HP and i don't know if i could've tanked earthquake without plot armor but it didn't matter because it went for swords dance and went down to ice beam.

The reason roark's geodude started using a bunch of Defense curl was because since you have simple you got far more defense then how much damage he could do, so the A.I decided to power up his rollout to deal more damage to your bidoof
Actually I believe in gen 5 onwards if you use a status move the opponent is more likely to use one as well? It was a stated mechanic in gen 5 I believe.

RAther than "easy", my primary complaint about BD/SP is that the TMs have limited uses again. Not sure why the manual breaks after one use, but its a bit of a negative return to something from the older games that was improved by being removed.
I guess that's just part of the faithful remake experience. At least they didn't pull an ORAS with HM's being permanent unless using a move deleter. (And yeah, HMs weren't done away with until gen 7, but it was still inconvenient.)

BDSP aren't 'faithful remakes', they're lazy rehashes.
Fairy type and the Friendship Is Magic mechanic didn't exist in the original, HMs existed, you couldn't sequence break by moving diagonally.

I'm mixed on TMs being limited. On one hand, that meant you had to be smart with your move distribution and which Pokemon should learn what before end game beyond. On the other, having Earthquake on everything is pretty fun still...if a bit boring too. Which I guess is why all the great moves became TRs in Sword and Shield.
Speed runners beat the game with a level 5 turtwig. As for why it was chosen as the starter well that because it's the first pokeball you come across and scrolling to the right is to much time.

here is why gengar used confuse ray on you: the AI is probably scripted to confuse heavily boosted pokemon, as each boost to attack or special attack increases the damage you take when you hit yourself.
When I fought fantina she spammed confuse Ray even if I had a berry equipped, so yea it’s definitely scripted

I think he said "I know air cutter has a %5 chance to miss, but I don't get why he has that move", referring to defog in that context because it reduces evasion. The reason he has defog from what I've gathered is because all Cyrus's 'mons are weak to stealth rock, and defog gets rid of stealth rock, not to help air cutter. At least if we're talking about 42:00 ish.

Truly stunning victory. I think this video actually made me appreciate affection as a mechanic: with the competitive movesets and perfect ivs on the named trainers, the affection mechanic ends up being balanced. I feel similarly about the plush TMs now being available for purchase. They made a game with some gnarly tough trainers, and so these buffs to the player are acceptable.
And you can reject all that and make it harder if you want (bitter herbs nerf affection)

I think it makes the game easy enough for children, which is important lol children are the future and 10 year olds deserve a fun romp in Sinnoh, but allowed the developers to go gang busters on the elite four and gym leader rematches. I know many were worried about it at first, and I didn't love it at first, but I don't think it made any of the challenge runs I've watched in bdsp that much easier.

About Ditto's levelling up glitch: I checked the source code of Pokemon Emerald, and indeed, when levelling up, the current battling Pokemon stats are overridden by the stats after the level increase. I also discovered that in a double battle, the second Pokemon will not have its special defense increased until the battle ends (they are updating every stats but they forgot a line for special def) 😅

@@fahkyew7776 not usually, but sometimes I do if I've fallen out of touch with the content that they create. It only ever happens if I notice (which takes a while because I never pay attention to channels themselves)

If you are not a follower of Messiah I would highly recommend becoming one. Call on the name of Jesus and pray for Him to intervene in your life - Revelation 3:20.
Contemplate how the Roman Empire fulfilled the role of the beast from the sea in Revelation 13 over the course of 1260+ years. Revelation 17 confirms that the beast is in fact Rome. From this we can conclude that A) Jesus is the Son of God and can predict the future or make it happen, B) The world leaders/nations/governments etc have been conspiring together for the last 3000+ years going back to Babylon and before, C) History as we know it is fake. You don't really need to speculate once you start a relationship with God.
Can't get a response from God? Fasting can help increase your perception and prayer can help initiate events. God will ignore you if your prayer does not align with His purpose (James 4:3) or if you are approaching Him when "unclean" (Isaiah 1:15, Isaiah 59:2, Micah 3:4). Stop eating food sacrificed to idols (McDonald's, Wendy's etc) stop glorifying yourself on social media or making other images of yourself (Second Commandment), stop gossiping about other people, stop watching obscene content etc. Have a blessed day!

Finally watched this whole video - wow, what a clutch final battle! Just goes to show that with the power of friendship, anything is possible, lol. Actually, I think this friendship mechanic happens whether you walk with a pokemon or not. As long as you level it up and keep it in your party, the friendship grows, so there was no way you could have avoided it. Without this mechanic, I do think this challenge would have been impossible without using at least some items in battle.
Faint it on purpose after crucial battles. 😂 Beat the important stuff, let it take some Ls in between. Avoid crutch
