I do a savory oatmeal. I prefer the steel cut oats, but I will eat whatever. I use Mrs Dash instead of sugar, diced onion, diced tomatoes, diced bell pepper... I have a Cajun Trinity season blend (powdered onion, celery, bell pepper) that I sometimes use.
I question the muffin extender of 1/2c flour and 1t Baking soda? I think maybe that should be less baking soda or be 1t Baking Powder.
The green lid from shaky cheese also fits on a mason jar. I keep a jar of flour handy to dust the counter for kneading/rolling dough.
That is such a great tip! Thank you for sharing, Iâm gonna keep those lids now!
The dryer balls are so much better than the dryer sheets and they are much safer for those with allergies to scents!
My family always used the frozen loaves of bread dough to make calzones. Thaw & rise, and then roll out, put your favorite toppings on, fold over and bake.
My walmarts sells frozen pizza dough I think called Pizza Buddy. It's $1.47. An easy dough to work with...makes great pizzas, calzones, Stromboli
â@@ellencain6114 yes I love making them live that

Hi Mindy. I was an adult before I knew that Parmesan cheese didnât come out of a green can. Thatâs all we had growing up. Glad you took one for the team and ate the ice cream.
I look forward to every Mindy video. Not only does she show us delicious recipes, but she also gives us tips on getting good bargains on food. You are a blessing to everyone who watches.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the encouragement. :)
@@SeeMindyMom you're so very welcome. That's just who I am.
I agree!
Would LOVE a Rhodes bread dough shortcut recipe video. Please!!!
My big coffee maker broke and I replaced it with the little coffee maker that you featured. I had many large filters left, but guess what, I just cut them down a bit and they work fine.
That's what I did too when I couldn't find the small ones.
I use coffee filters like napkins for kids especially way cheaper than paper plates , to clean, lots things
Mindy- Iâm interested to see how your budget morphs when your son hits that 13YO/14YO growth spurt. My 14YO grew 8 inches in 2 years and is now inhaling protein. Iâd love more ideas for feeding kids with bottomless pits for stomachs! Heâll eat a bowl of cereal or two while I serve up dinner, eat dinner, then snack on leftovers and ask for more. Itâs like feeding hobbits.
Once at 11 pm I put my foot down at being asked to make more food after I was in my PJs in bed. đ€Ł
I bought an air fryer so my hungry teen athletes could make their own food safely and with a minimum of cleanup.
Anyway- itâs a shock to the budget.
Yes teenagers eat like crazy! Are they hungry or board. I keep mine on sort of a schedule. Also Lots vegetables, fruit, yogurt loaded with fruit , peanut butter etc also flaxseed an protein powder, Trail mix. Also if they eat up their snacks before the end of week they choose eggs, oatmeal, peanut butter on saltines, or plain saltines, Ramon noodles , I buy jars of applesauce, homemade pudding or jello. They are about to become adults an this is important for them to learn how expensive is. Healthy meals an snacks less hungry. Hope this helps
I have wondered the same thing. Heâs only 10 now, but in the 97th percentile for height and weight and he already eats more than his sisters. đ
Iâm working on a video concept for June with cheap snack ideas, Iâll try to add some protein rich ones.
Brick got a little nutribullet blender for Christmas so smoothies have been a big thing for him lately, and he can make them very easily with that little machine.
I remember when we were buying a house years ago. The sellers had 2 teenage sons who played basketball. They told me their monthly grocery bill was higher than their mortgage payment. đź
Its fine if they are not gaining weight? Mote fresh fruit and veggies. I always enjoyed fresh carrots and cauliflower raw when younger. You can prep it at night & leave in a bowl of fresh cold water (with a teeny pinch of salt) in the fridge.. It keeps a day or so if you change the water every evening..
I found that the Velveeta dupe at Walmart is not only cheaper but is made from actual dairy while Velveeta now has canola oils and a bunch of junk unpronounceable ingredients! I also am a huge Snickers bar fan and found the ones at Walmart (yes, they have a Great Value brand of snickers called Caramel, Peanuts and Nougat Bar) and if you buy them in a six pack theyâre $0.50 per bar and taste the same to me. Theyâre 1.76 ounces vs the Snickers 1.86 oz but I canât tell the difference especially since Iâve paid $1.50+ per bar for these at times! đź So a savings of $1/ bar is huge to me and work well for a quick packable pick-me-up snack for my work day. I also enjoy the Great Value Bagels at 6 for $1.98. I canât even make them for that price (have you seen the cost of bread flour lately?) I also make my own sandwich bread these days as we donât eat a lot of breads but when we want some I either make mine in the stand mixer or make the no knead kind. Iâm considering making up several loaves worth now and freezing the dough. đ€
Yes I agree on the GV candy bars. We have tried a few and the milk way and snickers are very good dupes!
I have NEVER seen Walmart brand candy bars in any Walmart Iâve been in. Where are they located in the store?
I make steel cut oats each weekday morning for my husband and I. I do them in the crockpot overnight for 5-6 hours and they turn out great! Such an affordable, healthy and easy breakfast. I top mine with diced dried fruit and he likes brown sugar and cinnamon.
Mindy thank you for sharing your wisdom! I grew up with lots of fast food and convenience meals, and financial chaos. As a young mom of 3 kids, I've had to learn the basics of cooking and being frugal with our grocery budget. Your channel has been so helpful to me! You make it feel simple, easy, and overall manageable. Love from idaho â€ïž
Hello I hope everyone in Oklahoma are doing well. prayers
Thank you. Yes, my heart goes out to the town of Sulphur, and several other places a few hours south of us that got hit hard by the storms last weekend.
Those eggs are $3.40 in Indiana. I noticed other items on your list are higher here, but I did notice prices dropped here this week on some of my regular items. A small bag of shredded cheese went from $2.22 to $1.97.
It's slowly coming down. People are buying more generic and companies are responding.
I live in Iowa and prices are ridiculous!! Cheapest eggs I could find there other day were 2.79. I usually like to buy 18ct but they were $5+. The grocery struggle is real.
I bought a dozen extra large eggs at my neighborhood Kroger here in Houston, TX, for $1.49 a couple of weeks ago. Used them to make the egg salad sandwich recipe from The Masters golf tournament for dinner tonight. Delicious.
Iâm in Indiana too. Did she say where she is? My family in South Carolina and Texas havenât been seeing her lower prices either.
I'm a mom of 8 kids (now mostly grown), and I've been adding extra flour to all kinds of boxed mixes for years. It's a great way to make more for less.
Do you have some recipes or ideas for us? Thanks
@@krisqueen5939 I add extra flour with enough liquid to bring the recipe back to its intended consistency. I add flour to pancake mix, cake mix, muffins, etc.
I LOVE those Rhodes loaves. I thaw/rise them, press it out the size of a cookie sheet and add cooked breakfast sausage and cheese and bake it and my family loves it. I have used mozzarella or cheddar cheese and have even added some olives and pizza sauce the the mozzarella cheese loaf. SO good!
Great idea!!
Recently made biscuits from a can, baked ten eggs in a dish, and baked little round sausages. Then out those when cooled in the biscuit with a slice of cheese. Wrapped them in wax paper and put in a ziploc baggie. Now, when I want breakfast sandwich, it is pooped in microwave and so good.
Love how you turned that âBlizzardâ upside down! đ If they donât, you are suppose to get it for free! đŠ
haha! Glad you caught that! :)
That soft serve ice cream is sooo good!
I love how you made yourself a blizzard with the ingredients you had to 'take the hit' and show us how to make it lol
I bake sweet breads as a side hustle. The cost of sugar over the last 1 œ years has gone up astronomically. Dec 2022 a 25lb bag was $13.98. April of this year $19.97!!! Flour has gone up less than a dollar.
I always forget about the frozen bread loaves!
Me, too.
Glad I could remind you. :)
Frozen dough is awesome! My kids eat a loaf in a sitting though. đ
LOL! My kids do that too when the bread is homemade (or semi-homemade like this one).
We are big fans of Walmart frozen veggies. We even like the plain okra defrosted a little, sliced thin and coated with cornmeal before frying or even air frying. Yum.
Great tip! Like a faux fried okra. I'll have to try that!
You can also take the frozen okra and cook it in masala sauce and wind up with bhindi masala, an Indian dish that I like almost as much as I like fried okra, and eat it over rice or by itself with some naâan bread. Walmart does already have frozen okra coated for frying, that I also cook in the air fryer, so I usually have both in my freezer. Not as good as homegrown but I canât buy fresh okra here in the Pacific Northwest so itâs better than nothing. đ
You are such a trooper, taking one for the team like that. Luv youâ€
haha! I try, I try. :)
I want one of those things that was wrapped around your microwaved bowl of grits. I normally use a big coffee mug but the bowl shaped potholder would be a great thing to have.
Those are bowl holders. Do a google search. They are super easy to make. However, make sure you invest in the special heat batting when making or purchasing them. Regular batting can ignite in the microwave. When I found that out I bought 2 bolts of the batting. I got mine at Walmart.
FYI: If you don't wash and iron your fabric first they will shrink .
I noticed today some of the items had gone down in price at least from earlier this yr.
This was great. Thanks. We have five kids and are transitioning to a single income household. Things are gonna get reeeal tight. đŹ Appreciate this content so much!
Glad it was helpful!
The more bargains we look for the more competitive supermarkets will start to be. We eat dried past once a week, some canned tomatoes in a pan while the pasta is boiling, pinch of salt black pepper, oregano & basil.. If you like garlic they do frozen cubes that are economical because they last, and if you want to, a pinch of dried chilli flakes.. Add some drained canned tuna (in oil is nicest but watch the prices, it doesn't matter really) Ordinary grated at home cheese is nice on the top.. Sometimes go mad and scatter a few washed off jar olives on top.. Make your own garlic bread!
Another great video, Mindy! Have you ever considered doing a video on fast food dupes you can make at home? For example, Costco has Kirkland chicken bites that are comparable to Chick-Fil-A. A 3 pound bag is less than the cost of two combo meals at CFA.
Hope that you and your family have a great week!
Yes, I have done some videos along those lines before. Might be time for another one.
Cheese grits with scrambled eggs and bacon â€
I'm baking all week for my first Farmer's Market this Saturday. So chocolate chip cookies and pumpkin muffins were my lunch. đ
I fold my full size coffee filters in on itself like tuck it to fit in the small coffee makers, love my mini makers and your videos
I love all of these suggestions!!
French Press coffee is amazing and doesn't use electricity so that's another nice option for coffee! Coffee lover to coffee lover †â
One of the best videos I've ever seen. Thank you!
Wow, thanks!
Love your videos. Iâm an avid Walmart shopper. I have to have meat in my budget meals. Here are some of my recent Walmart finds:
Cacique Pork Chorizo, 9 oz $1.34 9 oz
FESTIVE Ground Turkey 87% $2.54 lb
FESTIVE Turkey Breakfast Sausage $2.54 lb
JENNIE-O Jumbo Turkey Franks (8) $2.22 lb
I really appreciate this video and the highlight of how a lot of things haven't gone up and many have even stayed the same. â„ïž
I use an Aeropress for single serve filtered coffee. There's a learning curve to it if I want to do multiple servings in one go, but the good thing is that all I need for my coffee is a tea kettle to boil water with and a paper filter made specifically for the Aeropress. Due to its very small size (paper filter), it can be easily rinsed out to be reused a couple of times, saving us a lot of waste from our traditional coffee filter.
My Walmart doesnât have the soft serve ice cream. I just checked because I was going to add it to my next order. đąđ
Thank you for taking one for the teamđ
I love Ruffles cheese and sour cream chips. The Great Value dupe tastes just like the OG. So good and dollars cheaper. Great video Mindy.
We like those chips, too! I really think most of the GV chips have been pretty close or spot on for us. Save for the doritos ones, Those are just hard to dupe for us.
Loving this blizzard section of this video. It made me giggle this morning! So cute!
I live alone and have had a Mr. Coffee 4-cup coffeemaker for over a decade, and I love it. I usually brew about 3 cups, which fits perfectly into my favorite morning mug. And congrats on cutting back on K-cups! They create so much plastic waste.
Mindy you will find you have an easier time cutting slices of bread from a soft loaf if you use a serrated bread knife to cut it
I put the leftover coffee in a pitcher in the refrigerator and use it as iced coffee đ
Yes to this :) I also make some of the leftover coffee into ice cubes so my ice coffee doesnât get watered down as they melt.
@@laurahohn5331 Me too ! I've heard that you can make ice cubes out of leftover wine also. I never tried it because I'm not a wine drinker, but I've heard that it won't water your wine down if you like it cold. I may try it one time to use for cooking đ€·ââïž
Thank you so much ,it's encouraging to know that not everything has gone up ,and love that blizzard recipe, blessings to you and your family Teresa in Mn
For the coffee, i use a pour over cup thing - no plug, size of a coffee mug, add a filter pour over with boiling water. also good when the power is out and i have a gas stove.
Great tip!
I have been doing pour over with my electric kettle for five years now....makes excellent quality coffee....brew only what you need.....makes cheap coffee taste expensive
Kcups are so expensive, but we purchased a two pack of the reusable ones. Best investment ever since we drink a cup or two at different times of the day. And...we still get to use the same old coffee maker!
We do that too. We also really like the Great Value flavored coffee as well. Not bitter like Starbucks brand either. Theyâve gone up a little in price but theyâre still worth it.
Ditto! I have saved tons of money and the coffee tastes so much better!
Love the blizzard test!
Add extra plain pasta to that shells and cheese to make it stretch farther. there's enough sauce for it!
True!
Braums is the Bomb.
Great video! The tips about shopping at Walmart are helpful. I appreciate the heads up about soft serve ice cream & making our own blizzards. â€
Pausing the video quick to say that I found the 12 pack GV English muffins for 2.48 a month ago. That's just slightly less than when I can find the 6 packs at Dollar Tree for 1.25. Thanks for telling me about the wool dryer balls at Walmart. I bought 6 at Ollies for 9.99 to try (I love them now, btw), and if I ever need more, I can go to Walmart. : )
I have seen the 12packs on line, but I can't find them in my store. Maybe they're right in front of me and I just don't see them.
Every teacher at my school has that same small coffee maker đ
I'm a neighbor from Missouri and I love your videos. I would love to see you make some recipes from the frozen bread dough.
My local food pantry offers bread to anyone at the end of Tuesdays( after all in need have been served), They always have too much and they throw it away if no one wants it. I live alone now so I get 2 or 3 loaves every other week and pick up for my elderly neighbors. It's very good kroger artisan bread too! This is stewardship as well. I cant imagine them throwing it away. I also volunteer there a couple of times a month. Call and ask if they throw things out.
You can actually make savory oats. I used to make it wuth a little tomato paste from tube and curry powder and a little bit of presauteed onions for yummy meal. You can add mushrooms, ground beef, tuna etc if you need more. That was my go to meal when needing to be very frugal.
Applesauce is easy to make. Traditionally, boil pieces then mash and strain. I wash, instead pot 10 minutes, blanch, wipe away peel, cut to core, push through potato ricer. Can get kids involved. Also less plastic packaging. I use which ever sweet apple is on sale.
Buy extra and cook down even more for apple butter!!! I made some today.
I always appreciate your content and I feel like this particular video has to be in the top three for me! Very encouraging and interesting too.
the flip of your "blizzard" made me laugh. great video!
Haha! Glad I could deliver! Thanks for watching
Great tips Mindy thank you.
â€â€â€ âtaking one for the teamâ đ
No walmarts here but we have plenty of shrinkflation and inflation! Thank you for the video!
Thank you. I really enjoyed this video and subscribed.â€
Such a great video!! Thank you for sharing this!!!! With the shaky green top crumbled Parmesan, i didn't try fresh until my 30's from a Hello Fresh meal & the difference was astoundingly better! Also recommend the wool dryer balls as well. The frozen bread loaves idea is also great because of the many uses, plus like you were saying bread is a staple ingredient. The mother day shower box restore gift set seems like a wonderful idea too!!!
đ đ for the wool dryer balls. Iâm so glad I switched. They work great, cut down on trash and fewer chemicals on my clothes.
I do shop Walmart and Aldiâs there are not a lot of discount stores.thanks for sharing with usâ€it would cost me ten dollars for croissants for two so I do buy them made they are cheaper
Ooh, soft serve ice cream! I hope my Walmart sells them, Mindy. Thanks so much for your budget-friendly tips and hacks.
I found it in my Walmart, so hopefully it's in yours!
Also thank you SO much for always posting desserts along with meals. I love making dessert and when we became more cost conscious I worried that sweets would be our completely. You're so encouraging! Thank you
My pleasure! Glad I can give some realistic ideas. We need a little dessert from time to time even on a tight budget, right? :)
Youâre right about those sandwiches, I figured that out too and get them every week
I love the comparison! Thx Mindy
Hi Mindy, thank you for all your great ideas and advice. I would love to see a video on the ways you can use the Rhodes bread. I would have no idea how to make all the variations you suggested work. Thanks for all you do. I really love your videos and learn so much!
Thanks for sharing this.
The frozen bread dough is AMAZING!! My husband and I make those all the time and the bread is delish!
So good! I agree!
I was pleasantly surprised to see that the BUNNY Soft serve has many flavors! I have only seen 4. Thanks !! for sharingđđ
I still cannot get over how much cheaper your food is! I buy a loaf of bread for nearly $5! Tomatoes are like $8 per kilo right now. It's so hard!!
Oh no! Tomatoes are 88-cents a pound here in Texas. I am growing cherry tomatoes in a pot on my apartment balcony, and already have a bunch of small tomatoes on my plant. We make sliced tomatoes and cucumbers in Italian dressing as a side dish a couple of times a week, so refreshing and cool. But bread is crazy expensive here too - I have started making my own biscuits and tortillas to save money.
Please make sure you are checking country of origin on any GV products. Some are now being shipped in from Thailand and other places that donât have strict restrictions.
You donât have to dump coffee you donât drink in a day! Keep it in the fridge and microwave the next day. Still tastes great! And no waste :)
Or pour it in an ice cube tray to make iced coffee cold without dilution
I do that sometimes.
My husband just drinks it all day and night until the pot is gone đ
Mindy, thanks for taking one for the team!
Someone had to do it, right? đ€·ââïžđ
Hi I have the same coffee dilemma in my house. I bought the reusable K cups for keurig. You just put your ground coffee in them and makes one cup! Way cheaper to do it this way. I think a 6 pack is $9 on Amazon. Iâve had the same ones for years. Just have to wash them frequently đ
Do you know that they make paper filters for the reusable K cups? Iâve purchased them at Walmart. Also have seen them in my local Kroger and am sure they can be found on Amazon đ. They save so much cleaning time!
I'm grateful for your QA process Mindy, gotta make sure your Diary Queen dupe is the real deal! I'm now running to WalMart to pick up the suppliesđ
So glad I could give an idea! :) I found that if they're a little too soft after mixing, I can pop them in the freezer for about 10 minutes and they're perfect for me. :)
We use the dryer balls too! Not only do they work well but our clothes dry faster too! Ours like to hide in shirt sleeves, particularly long sleeved ones!
I can totally eat ice cream for lunch, LOL! Going to try that Blue Bunny for sure!
Terri G đ
In our bakery section they have sliced sourdough bread and Italian bread for $1.00.
Awesome video thanks Mindy đâ€ïžđđ
The jalapeno kettle chips from the Walmart brand are also fabulous.
great video love them always good info that just flows well
thank you!
So look forward to your videos!
Glad you like them! Thank you so much!
Wool dryer balls are great.
Mindy do ever use an electric skillet in making meals. I'm considering buying one.
I don't, but my mom did all the time when I was growing up. One of my slow cookers has a saute function, so it would operate kind of in the same way.
I love grits !! I recently found rice grits. I have yet to try them. Something new. I prefer savory breakfast instead of sweet breakfast. Great video, Mindy.
I love the way you turned the ice cream upside down đ đ đ
I have had that little coffee maker for almost a year now. It works perfectly and is great for a single person!! Highly recommend!!
Hi Mindy, Great video!! Realize took a lot to put this together(with all price checking and all) Thank You for all you do. A side note:made the Chicken Salsa Verde(from a video of yours) my Family LOVED it, will be a regular in our meal plans. Again Thank You. Hope all is well with you and yours. Oh and Thanks for taking one for the team with ice creamđđ
My pleasure, glad I can help! And thank you for letting me the recipe was enjoyed by your family, I love hearing that! :)
This is a great video!! Such relevant tips for my life and love the included recipes. Subscribing!! âșïž
I use the ground coffee pod with my keurig
Great video, I'm going to try several of the items you mentioned. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Oh man! Soft serve from the store! Homemade blizzards!!! Good thing I don't eat icecream very often. đ
Love that ice cream!
Ahhhhđ”đ Definitely been looking for shower/spa experience! Body Restore goes on my list âŁïž
I gotta say...I like the eucalyptus ones for sinuses, but the smells of those other ones are so good! I especially like the lemon and orange ones. My daughter likes the more floral scent ones.
Happy Monday to everyone
Happy Monday!
U do exactly what we do about coffee. Hubs gets the big coffeemaker because he likes a lot of coffee-with caffeine-and I have a little one like urs for my one cup of decaf. Itâs worked out well for us for years.
Thanks for sharing â€ïžâđ„â€ïžâđ„â€ïžâđ„
