The eventual outcome was obvious after the first 10 minutes of period one. From that point on, it was simply waiting for the hammer to fall. There was no cohesive offense and the defense was getting shredded at will. The third period collapse was the inevitable result of everything that had gone before. It's a reverse sweep on the table? After tonight's game, it wouldn't surprise me.
Here we go again Ranger fans! Rangers dominate the beginning of a series and then gas out with no energy for the rest of the series and lose. I know we are still ahead, but if we don't turn this around, we will repeat the past for sure.
Chytil back in for Game 6 is a plus, however, 56 & 8 on the ice as a tandem is a recipe to lose the next two games. He's not going to sit 8 so it has to be 5 or 6 to spell 56. Lavi must stop the insanity. This story is 4 1/2 months old.
I agree John that playing game 6 will aid rangers on the road. in game 5 they hit 3 posts so they can get to Fredrick Anderson because he moves from side to side you have to get hi, glove side.
How could the Rangers play such a pathetic elimination game AT HOME!? That's the real concern. Soft and sloppy. Embarrassing.

Pathetic effort. They came our flat, got a 1 goal lead and instead of gaining momentum from it, they ended up going several minutes without a shot. This team is blowing it
It looks like the '22 Lightning and '23 Devils series all over again. The Rangers have taken their foot off whatever gas they were applying, and it wasn't full-on to begin with in this series as it has moved forward, and are looking like they expect the series win to just fall in their lap for being "just good enough." It's like they've bought into their own hype after going 7-0 and, well, now we just hang out here and the W's will come. They didn't quite do that in Game 4, but it looked like they had just checked out in Game 5. Almost like losing 1 game in the series was a back-breaker. Hockey playoffs are unpredictable. It wouldn't surprise me if they play a great Game 6, especially after an extra day off, but it also wouldn't surprise me if this trend continues and they go out, much like they did the last couple of years, except this time with a full-on reverse sweep topped with a Game 7 loss at home. Credit to Carolina for hanging in there, staying aggressive, and making this a series.
The biggest critical error in this game which started the snowball was the choice to try and sit back on Def w/ the 1 goal lead for 20mins and win that way. Crazy idea vs a fast team who forechecks hard in CAR. They needed to stay on the gas. The best Def is an Off that keeps the puck out of your own end so you don't have to play as much D. Once the game got tied, then 2-1 the Rangers were demoralized that their plan failed, CAR wanted/needed the game more and now we have a Game 6
Everyone is saying they sat back. They just couldn't get any offense established. It wasn't a choice. If they were playing closeout D then that was the worst closeout D i have ever seen.
@@chris2ferUtoob it was stated by the reporter (whatever her name) before the period started, that after she talked talked to phil housley on some insight between periods as they do, he straight up said that they were going to concentrate on defense. Right after, Ray ferraro chimmed in his opinion on this and said "it will be a tough task sitting back in your zone for a full 20 mins" and if you watch the game, they barely forechecked, they played Def/neutral zone primarily. Watch the games before you comment
Two losses, two Panarin disappearance acts. Line 2 played shorthanded last 2 game.
That was an embarrassment! Panarin was MIA, and Trouch needs to stop chirping and play hockey!!

You can sit back and play defense to protect a 1 goal lead when you have the defense to do that. When did the rangers aquire those players? This is not a team that can play defense to that level. Terrible strategy by Lavy imo and can you please let Rempe play damit.
This team is in serious trouble. I know it was going to be a long series but if you have a 3-0’ lead you close it . One game ok , due to lose but now a 2nd and the way it happened. Carolina has all the momentum. If the Rangers don’t win game 6 they in honestly don’t see them winning in 7 . They just don’t deserve it. And if they do make it to the next round I don’t see them beating Florida
I hate the Rangers only game plan for the third period was to defend.. (what it sounded like from Emily Kaplans interview with Dan Muse between 2nd & 3rd period) 1-0 is not enough to sit back against the Canes. Should of attacked the game instead of be on our heels and hope to close it out.

Roslovic was prob the most noticeable player on that line but his ‘defense’ on the 1st goal was all time horrible.
Rangers are toast. The Canse figured something out and went from just being slightly dominant in games in 1-3 to being totally dominant. Last night looked like an NHL team playing a bad high school team. Canes in 7 and it won't even be close in the next two games.
I knew the 3 chokers Zib, Kreider and Panarin would flop been saying all year you cant win a cup with 3 soft choke artists as your top players. Heads gotta roll if they blow this series plain and simple.
Buckle up if they blow this because those guy aren't going anywhere. They are stuck with them. Panarin has 2 years left at almost $12 million, Mika has 5 left at $8.5 and Kreider 3 left at $6.5.

It's happening again
This isn't the time to panic. But it is the time to regroup and play like the more desperate team. This is why NYC is such a hard place to win, you're either the best team in hockey or the sky is falling, on a nightly basis.
These are two great teams. The Rangers need to stay fresh, stay focused, be aggressive and prepare themselves for 60+ minutes in Raleigh. The strategy against a fast team like Carolina has got to be aggressive forecheck and physicality.
Time to hit the gas.

No effort at all right from the jump you can see carolina wanted it more and the rangers were just flat , but how you play great D for two periods and 20 minutes to go you come out flat and uninspired, this is how you come out at home in a elimination game , a total embarrassment, nobody came to play ,krieder ,mika ,panarin and trocheck were M.I.A ,cannot give a team any life when you got your boot on there throat , game 4 was there for the taking and as usual you choke ,game 6 in carolina is going to be nuts and the canes will bring it ,we need to come out fast and play smart ,must score first ,just a huge disappointment, cannot score first and then sit on the lead play not to lose , must play game 6 like a game 7 , also last nights officials were putrid,
So it goes like this. For the Rangers to retain hope and have cup aspirations, they need to win game 6 handedly like a true cup contender that fought back and closed out after getting hit in the mouth. If they lose gm6 but barely squeak by in game7 to move on, then I don't see them beating FLA. Whoever comes out of the East is winning the cup IMO
I don't see them getting past Florida period. Last night they did a flawless impression of the '22 and '23 teams. We thought this year's team had gotten past that tendency to lose focus and take their feet off the gas, but it's still there and will reappear again if they get through this round. Cup winners don't do that.
@@humanbeing2420 thats why i said it all depends on the response in game 6. If they take control of that game and win it handedly then I see them having a shot. FLA is a great team, but they are not the juggernaut that everyone is making them out to be. They had a very mediocre last 15 gms of the regular season. Now I'm sitting here watching BOS beating them 1-0 w.o. their leading playoff scorer in Marchand who is injured. That last game marchand missed too and they had to push the BOS player into Swayman (clear interefernce) to score one of their goals. They are beatable for sure. Bobvroski is hot/cold, Igor is the best goalie in the playoffs, that is one big difference maker. FLA plays a diff game the CAR, much slower paced, fits the Rangers style of play better. Its all about matchups. FLA doesn't scare me one bit. The Rangers played one terrible game so far this playoffs, last night. Everyone is quick to forget that we had CAR in a 3-0 whole and they are what like 1-20 on the PP so far? Supposed to be one of the best PP in the league. They might have gotten swept if Lindgren didn't gift them that PP with 3mins left in game 4. Hockey fans are ridiculous. 3 great games vs an elite team putting them down 3-0, one bad game and all the good is forgotten about like it didn't happen. What happened to FLA in game 1 vs BOS? They got torched 5-1......it happens. At least the Rangers aren't injuring CAR on purpose to have an edge and cross checking guys into Anderson to get cheesy goals. They are playing a healthy and elite CAR team. FLA is benefiting from a b.s. and dirty style of play

@@albie21121 Fair point, and I thought the same thing after that game. End of the day, there is simply no predicting what is going to happen here. Or in any game or series. Every Ranger fan is analyzing things through the lens of their emotions. And even if one's thinking is purely objective, there is still no telling what is going to happen. It's all pointless pontificating, really...
@@albie21121 I hear you. I know from 40 years of watching NHL playoff hockey that predictions are a fool's errand, yet I still think I know what's going to happen. After a brutal loss, it's hard not to let emotion distort one's thinking, and that's what's happening with me and 99% of Rangers fans. By the time game 6 starts, for the Rangers the sting of game 5 will be gone and they will have reset themselves mentally. We can't predict what will happen. The Rangers could come out flying and demolish the Canes in game 6. Or they might come out flat and get crushed. We just don't know.
Is this surprising to anyone? The Canes were favored and are obviously the better team. After all they only missed being the Pres trophy winners by 3 points. If Rangers were to beat the Canes somehow, do we really want to be embarrassed by the Florida Panthers which is what would happen. Or how about one of the western teams which are all better than the Rangers. Cup is far from NYC, and has been from day one of playoffs. It’s over

That was changing point in the game, penalty there gives the Rangers a 2 man advantage. Then refs let too many men for roughly 10 seconds but nhl likes game seven
How do you not come out flying & kick this team in the teeth at home & close it out? Embarrassing. Even if we do get past this round Florida will manhandle us they’re way too deep of a team.
