    My first jump in Vietnam was from 2200 feet. I was so scared that I couldn't even spit. After that, it became routine. My lowest jump was from 850 feet. I was worried if the chute would open, but it did right on cue.

      tony davis, you can jump the KC 130. I've done it. The plane has modified fuel pods of the wings and the ability to carry an internal fuel cell as well. Without the fuel cell the cargo bay can function like any other C-130. The one I jumped had the fuel cell and it took up much of the cargo area so we could only jump about 20 jumpers. It's been many years so i can't remember the exact number. I was Army so I'm no expert on Marine procedures and I couldn't tell much about this plane but I was on jump status for 26 years

    At the risk of being a "nit-picker", this is a C-130, not a KC-130; the later is a tanker version (primarily used for in-flight refueling of other aircraft).
    The first jump was a "Hollywood" daylight tailgate jump- the BEST kind (except for HALO). 😄 Second jump was "freefall"/HALO, and the third was combat equipment.
    2:04 Not sure how the USMC did it, but the Army had "cherry" jumpers wear a different "non-combat" helmet; they're also usually in the first five jumpers (which she is).

    What happens to the parachutes after they land doessomebody go out there and collect them or do they just dispose them?

    • @ssgus3682
      @ssgus3682 Před 2 lety

      It depends. On any training jump the parachutes are always collected.
      It depends on the kind of Jump on how. Jumps can be broken down into 2 kinds of jumps:
      1) Sustainment jump- Just practicing jumping or making sure you get a jump in to keep your jump pay. On these jumps once you land you will pack up your chute and carry it to a chute turn in point. Your name will be checked off showing you turned in your chute.
      Follow on training- Example seizing an airfield or linking up to practice some other kind of training. Usually followed by rucking back to your company area. Here you would pack up your chute and leave it and place a chem light on it so it could be found.
      In both cases there is a detail that will load back up all the chutes and take them back to the parachute riggers so they can repack them.

      The Marines does not have a specific Paratrooper unit like the Army... we operate completely different than the Army does... Marines operate in much smaller numbers And our main Objective as a whole is close in quietly and completely destroy the enemy... although the Army does have direct action units and even their infantry finds themselves in direct action circumstances at times, when comparing size and missions in the entire scope of things, the Marines move fast and light and kill everything that needs killing ... since the Army is so much bigger, historically their Purpose is to dig in and hold Land after its been taken to ensure that the enemy doesn't come back and regain their power over a territory that they have been ran out of or killed out of... So it all depends on what you want to do... if you join the Marines as an Infantry Marine, you might get lucky and get a slot at Jump School if you keep asking your command (but I wouldn't count on it... the best chance of going to Jump School as a Marine is if you make it into Special Operations ... Scout Snipers, Recon, and MARSOC is the best way to get your jump wings but I can honestly tell you right now, don't let Jump School be the deciding factor because it's a 3 week school and Static Line is a lame joke and alot of the advanced freefall schools are run by the Airforce and you're only getting a seat there if you are Special Operations... simple as that... if the Marines is more your style as to what you want to do but jump school isn't garunteed, who gives a shit... go out on your weekends and get your skydiving A-Licence... it ain't the greatest thing in the world to jump out of a plane to a parachute that automatically opens... it just makes you a floating target hahaha... a normal skydive lasts about 60 seconds... and it's not like you are going to be jumping every single day of your life... I'm only saying "Make your decisions on educated observations and information"... you don't want to be unhappy where you end up because you were intoxicated by the 5 minutes of the Job that you saw that is actually cool and the other 95 percent of the time that is a son of a bitch... I did my entire time in the Marines as a Scout Sniper and you really have to be a different breed of human being to appreciate the job... ITS NOTHING like the movies show... the movies only show the 2 minutes of the job that Hollywood likes to spin their magic on... the rest of the job is extremely difficult, life consuming and is bound to ruin a fair amount of personal relationships... just do your due diligence in research because whatever you choose, if you sign your name on that dotted line, your property of the United States Government for the next 4-8 years so find out everything you can and ask yourself what you really want ... because even if you think you're sure, your still most likely in for a rude awakening... the U.S. Military loves to do that! 🤣
