- Switching trucks around still. There is a lot of nuance with trucks. Last time I skated venture trucks was over 10 years ago. Its crazy to see what I forgot about venture's.

I love ventures I’ve tried a lot of different trucks in the past I always go back to ventures! Hollow 5.6 high bones medium bushings
I first tried ventures in the ‘90s and actually still have my set from back then on one of my setups. They are 5.0(7.65”) lows. I really like them. Most of my other trucks are indys, but I recently got a set of venture 5.6(8.25”) high standards. It wasn’t something I planned or thought about, but I ended up with the ventures on shorter wb and Indys on longer, so my true axle-axle wb is pretty close like 17 3/8” +/- across all of them

I switched to Ventures 2 years ago and not going back! Only other trucks I would ride are Thunders. Ventures do have a gooddly pinch 😫 Insane lock in and king pin clearance is better than any truck 🔥 You should get bones meds on the bottom with the top washer and use the stock top bushings with the bones washer and you can make them feel looser with that and get even more king pin clearance. I do that with my Venture lows but I have the Venture loose conversion top bushings instead.
Years and years ago Ventures and Independent Trucks were made in the same place. Venture was the budget alternative to Independent Trucks. To me they feel pretty much the same. Ventures are a bit stiffer though. I have a beat down set of Ventures on my cruiser board with soft Indy bushings and they feel really good.
You need to try the lows. Been on Venture 5.0 lows on a 7.75 board for over 20 years. Been messing around with all kind of different trucks lately but keep coming back to them damn Venture lows.
The lows have like zero kingpin clearance.
Thunders and ricta naturals have been good to me. Never had a problem with ventures either
I like ventures now , there was an adjustment coming from tensor mag lite lows , as far as bushings I found for me the doh doh orange ones are perfect for me and able to give me great turning , I just love how these bushings feel with a broken in deck .
Mag lights were another one on my wish list but they are PRICEY! maybe thou
My favorite trucks is Venture, second is Royal and could be first if they are higher, third is indy but the pop is what turn me off. Thunder could be a lot better with more baseplate and higher too! I can enjoy any trucks but me best are really Venture 5.8 high!
For venture highs I like to have at least 3mm smaller wheels than I normally ride, so 48mm for me when Venture highs. Decks like better more mellow and long tail or nose. Wb definetly smaller for the board, like 14''. Thanks for taking the time for those trucks, I'm unlockong tgem last fee weeks.

@@darkwingduck7212 yes they are, I was mentioning the wheel size to be 48mm diameter or even less. So the height for popping drops quiet some millimeters. I'm now minilogo user anyway. Vent highs are too hefty for me.
I’m thinking of buying some 50 mm to see if it feels better I think I Almost hit the sweet spot with some thunder highs.

when i skated venture i took the bottom bushing plate off and it was way more reactive. then i switched to ace af1 lows but blew the bushings but i swapped the bushing to indy bushing and the trucks feel SO SOLID

Before you make any final decisions, you have to try the Ace AF1. There are 2 very important things to note with Ace: 1- Do not touch them for at least 3 sessions (or 1 week of skating) 2- Don't use any other bushings in them. If you are on the heavier side, the Ace Hard Bushings set is for you but the stock mediums are the best bushings ive ever skated. They take quite a bit longer to break in compared to an Indy which breaks in real quick. The rebound of Ace is fantastic, they are sharp turning and do what you want them to do. You can dial them much better than any other truck, at least in my experience. The grind is softer, but feels better. They do wear a bit faster, but that in part helps you get grooves faster. Currently have a set of AF1 55 Standards, which really didn't throw me off when I switched from my Indy 149 hollows previously. The axel height for Ace is like an Indy Forged Hollow at 53mm, but they have a slightly shorter wheelbase to an Indy. Currently riding a Polar 8.25/14.25wb/Ace AF1 55 (8.5) and it's been a perfect setup. I always skate better with a slightly larger truck. If you ride boards under 8.5, you should most def try a pair of AF1 33 (8.0) or the 44's (8.25). I love Indy, but the legend of Indy riders staying on Ace once they try them is ringing true.
I've been thinking about it dont know how much more torture I can take switching these trucks up so much lol!

Ace Trucks don't hold up too well to grinds though. I've never owned a set but my friend swears by them but complains about the hangers not holding up.
I've heard they wear out faster, but that means they groove quicker. Idk something I will definitely keep in mind!
@@Scalamander oh wow. I’m actually on a polar 8.25 with ace hollow 55 af1…. Awesome setup, but I’m a venture man so I’m going back soon…. I’m just not ready to go back just yet. I will say… Krooked grinds are easier on venture, I can’t seem to lock in on the aces
I went from riding Destructo's in the early 2000's to switching to ventures in my prime. Ill never ride another truck. Ventures are weighty enough for good stability when landing. I prefer spitfire classic formula 4 52 mm. Weighty truck, light wheel on a 7.75 board is the perfect setup for me. Been riding the same set up for about 15 years now.
I like Indy’s on a 14.25 wheelbase, but it’s been difficult to get anything other than 14.0 where I am. Tried thunders first, but Ventures have definitely been the answer for me, to get a similar true wheelbase and the stability of barrel bushings. Plus I swear the thunder baseplate makes the kicks feel comparatively more floppy/flexy because of how they’re situated…..
Still liking them and I wish 14 in Wb twin tails were more common around here but unfortunately they are not.
@@cbass801 over here in China, the most common size is 8.0, 14.0 WB 😅. Gotta shell out quite a bit extra sometimes for the US brands in order to have more WB choices.
I find the lack of turning compared to leaning on ventures actually helps a lot with flatground and flip tricks too.
Just a word of warning, if you put thunders back on the same board after skating the ventures for a while, the kicks are gonna be a lot easier to snap.
What's your wheelbase? I find that the strange geometry of ventures balances out on decks with shorter wheelbases. I ride ventures on a 14 inch wheelbase

I haven’t ridden thunders since my first set up and got it stolen, but ride Indy and ace classics and af1’s on a natas 80’s collector reissue. Though I do want to try these trucks cause I find everything too loose.
And if you are switching from thunder to venture, you can always win 🤔
Ventures with Bones bushings is what I like.

I got these almost two weeks ago, everything has been feeling super good, especially hardflips and tres, but for whatever reason I can't get used to kickflips on them. Lots of rocket flips and messed up timing haha.

Im with you on the madness, ive tried multiple pairs of indys,thunders, and ace af1 hollow. But my madness with trucks has came to an end with the indy forged hollows. Slightly taller than thunder and not as tall as indy standard. Literally the perfect truck, now im having madness with decks finding out what brand and size I want to stick with. I prefer 8.375-8.38, but that size isnt always in stock at my local skateshop and the wheelbases on those decks are most of the time 14.5 which I don’t want. I prefer 14.25 wheelbase
Indy titanium are better and lighter in my opinion!

You should try a smaller deck too i was skating a 8.25 at one point but something didn’t feel right so I got a 8.38 and a 8.5 thinking it would be way better but I lost somany tricks and had no control of the board it was annoying and thought I sucked. but I went to a 8.125 and I’ve never been this consistent and clean I feel like I can float the board in the direction I want it’s insane. A lot of people are too scared to go down sizes because they will get roasted by the new guys who worship big boards.
Venture high are the same height as indy hollows for anyone who likes short wheelbase boards venture high are a good way to go. Smaller wheel helps with any ghost pop which for is an issue with venture if you like steep boards
Also bones bushings will make ventures turn alot nicer, makes them feel closer to an indy.

Super hard wheels will help will slides. Something as Bones STF 103a or Spitfire F4 101A
Switched back to some 101s on thunders for that very reason!
i ride 6.1 highs and theyre not bad have 2 sets one with stock bushings another with bones hards. From 159 indy standard/stage X/IX heights. Overall theyre an easier transition from indys than thunders though largest tunders ive had were 149s. On flat venture/thunders do have a jerky/tendency if you dont land perfetly bolts or are going too slow...I had to run risers with 6.1s vs the 159 indy stage X with the same wheels/height. Thunders grind better metal to metal, ventures take a little more umph/speed/proper lock in to grind on coping/concrete etc. I still have to try AF1 60's. I tried the 8.35" stage 4s pretty meh i shoulda went with the 8.65" ones. I just cant skate smaller trucks like i used to...theyre fine for parks/flat/tech/hips etc...but just not as reliable with popping over lip and slashing into grinds/lock ins the way the 8.75" axles can with ease. Pinch and the way ventures pop half cabs... and bs/fs airs is really nice though BETTER than how indys feel...though indys are my gold standard when hauling ass and blasting over lip around the park/flow. To me venture strike as a middle ground between indy and thunder as far as all round/skating/transition/park/flow. But for smiths/crook pinch and a few tricks like half cab/big spin/bs-fs air variations theyre REALLY fun/worthwhile in the quiver. Though a FS nose slide with the baseplate locked/pinched is still unparallelled with INDYS. I even tried some 144 mid hollows but still just "meh" poor lock in/potential just like the stage 4's for transition depending on how big/wide your wheels are and the edge profile. Also i always liked how ventures feel for manuals and fs nose grind/pinch.
I bought ventures once and never again.They turn like shit and the hole in plate for the king pin wasn't even centered!
Interesting, the turning is for sure lacking. But I've never even checked to see if the kingpin was centered. Did you try hitting them up for a new pair maybe?
Ventures give you different control you can make it looser but it doesny throw you off the board in a sense you can control your landings howsoever, Pinch also is really there it grinds smooth dont get this wrong about Ventures they grind slow no they aren't you just have to get the exact locking or pinching for every trick /Thunders for loose loose control, Ventures for loose tight control like Trucks really give you those benefits that change the way you skate.
I love skating a 8.125 but hate a 14.25 wheelbase . Unfortunately 8.125 decks mostly have a 14.25 wheelbase. I throw some ventures on there to open the wheelbase and problem solved
Try April, Primitive, Girl and Chocolate boards! They have 14” wb shapes in 8.125

@@shbwashere I’m honestly not sure how tall the 5.6 ventures sit… but I do know that venture lows suck so much lol. Atleast for me. They have absolutely zero kingpin clearance. So if you wanna die on a smith and feeble skate lows.

Indy is a great comparison and kind of sets the standard in the industry. Diffrent tools for diffrent jobs. Venture I seem to think has some of everything (pinch, turn, etc) and shines with slides and grinds, which is why I switched.

Try some softer pivot cups and bushings. Riptide pivot cups and Bones soft bushings will make just about any truck turn good! 👍

Try Silver M-Class. They are Ventures, but better. Tighter wheelbase while maintaining the same stability. Bigger hanger-better, longer grinds without axel slip, the height of the truck is bit taller than a venture mid. Definitely do a review!
