I sold my crown vic 2 years ago. And as I watched her drive away, I realized I had made a huge mistake. A couple months ago bought another one that had been sitting for 3 years and currently rebuilding it. She still needs work, but any excuse to drive it, I will. I mainly bought her as a winter beater as my current daily, Honda CTR, isnt really meant to be driven in the snow or cold conditions.

It'll be nice if Ford brings them back, I don't care if they go all EV by the 2030s, as long as they keep the iconic 1998-2012. One problem is the weight, it'll be somewhat heavier than a traditional gas-running car. I believe it'll be possible if they keep the exterior looks. There are electric trucks out there that look relatively modern, not too futuristic like those newer Teslas. If I was the head of Ford, I'd like to bring them back.

I love a lot of things about the Panther Platform, but one thing I really really like is the lack of technology. No computer screens, no blind spot warning system, no collision avoidance, none of that crap. Heck, my first Crown Vic didn't even seem to care if I didn't put on my seat belt. You can turn the traction control off and sometimes after a while, if you keep doing that, it disables ABS also, apparently. You are 100% in control of the vehicle and I like that, for better or worse.

When I finally bought my 2008 in mid to late 2017, all my friends asked me why an old police car and everything you stated is exactly why. I have a 2009 Grand Marquis: same car different badging. But I'll tell you the one car I'd rather have: a 2011 Lincoln Town Car.
There are some upgrades you can get for all Panther platform cars. Billeted aluminum rear control arms and Watts links with polyurethane bushings, heavier rear stabilizer bar (front as well but they will actually make it handle worse if you upgrade the rear too), dual adjustable racing shocks front and rear, 200mph driveshaft w/loop, Torsen T2 differential and most importantly, 14" front brake rotors: some companies offer Corvette style opposing quad piston calipers.
I bought a Mercury Marauder in May of 2004 brand new and did all these things to it. It handles like a roller-skate on a rail and the brakes will submarine you right out from under your seat belt if you're not prepared for it. It'll go from 60 mph to a complete stop in less than 100 feet. But any Panther platform can be made to handle almost that well with these upgrades. My Marauder is much better than it was from the factory, but to be as good you'll need Marauder wheels and tires too.
Last and the least important is power upgrades. Jerry Barnes of Trilogy made (at last peek) a supercharger kit for the Marauder and it's 32 valve engine. As for the other engines one can find on the Panthers, I did see a turbocharger kit offered for the Marauder, and I'm sure there is somebody making a kit for the cop cars as well as the Lincoln.

U r spot on about the Panther platform Fords. I have two, a '99 Mercury Grand Marquis GS...and an '06 MGM LS Premium. I like the fact that not only are these cars easy to maintain and work on yourself. But they are easily modified and durable. I like the quiet comfort and the ride of the big sedans. I think that these cars were designed for people who enjoy scenery and casual conversation during long trips. I agree with you...am not a fan of all the modern infotainment systems and driver assist safety features on newer vehicles. I think it makes people worse drivers (most of the people that have those features either don't know how they work or operate or do not use them correctly). My '99 GS has 210,000 miles on it. It is my daily driver and runs as good as it did when I purchased it used 13 yrs ago. If you treat them well.....they will serve you for years to come. And though they are not great on gas, these cars are made better than most new cars and are more comfortable and roomier. Unfortunately, there are no longer any American auto makers manufacturering full-size sedans like these anymore. Even though at the time of their demise they were some of the safest cars on the road. You have a nice Crown Victoria. Here's to the Panther Platforms autos.🍻

I daily a 2003 Lincoln Town Car - on a 90 mile round trip five days a week. All of it on interstate highway.
As far as I know there is no more comfortable car for my commute. It is literally like driving a leather recliner down the road. Driver's compartment is huge - all kinds of foot room, leg room, hip room, shoulder room, head room. The ride is incredible. When there's a massive traffic jam (too often), I'm not stuck in some little box that I am uncomfortable in.
And they're CHEAP. Ridiculously cheap. Panther platform cars are the best value in inexpensive used cars for sure. No question about it.

I drive both an 84 Crown Vic and an 89 Merc Gran Marquis. They just seem to me the way a car should be built. Rear wheel drive and minimal computer technology. Easy to maintain and repair and comfortable to drive. Most people I've known hold on to them. My first car was an 86 Fleetwood Brougham D'Elegance that I got when I was 14. Yes its not a Crown Vic and yes its a slow car but the thing is still a land yacht. I learned to appreciate enormous trunk space, comfy rides that damper even the roughest of Chicago streets, and room for all your friends plus more if you are willing to go crazy. Just aim past the gigantic hood and cruise to your destination. If I could choose again this time I'd go with a modern Crown Vic or GrandM. I believe after 2003, ford started using plastic chain tensioners that had terrible gaskets that would blow out causing slack in the chain just like the 4.6 3V.... now I’m not trying to knock the crown Vic saying it’s a bad car, I use mine almost everyday in heavy snow conditions and it powers on with no problem. By far my favorite car I’ve ever owned just thought more people should be aware of this issue.

I have a 1989 Crown Vic LX with 112k miles, and I'm only 27 (saying my age because people always call Panthers "grandpa cars"). My main reasons why I love Crown Victorias are:
    1. It's been famously used as taxi and especially police cars for THIRTY THREE years
    2. Big car, body on frame, durable, simple design, and easier to repair from small crashes.
    3. V8 power (underpowered when stock, but will be a potential muscle car with the right modifications).
    4. They are indeed comfortable.
    5. Its more luxurious cousins Grand Marquis/Town Car are built the same way.
And for my '89, I just love classic cars, and those are the best looking Vics to a lot of people around me. Not to mention, the old ones had the WINDSOR motor.

It is not 100% stock, but it is not hacked or high strung/unreliable. We did an overall package with it- so the suspension, brakes, transaxle, motor and all have been built to perform better. It still rides the same as stock when tooling around, then when you start pushing it, it tightens up- German progressive-rate springs, AGX struts, GXP lca's, C91 sway bays & rear trailing arms, Monte Carlo reinforcement bars, struts tower braces front & rear. Brakes are off the big Caddy. Supercharger ported, polished, teflon-coated lobes with a water-to-air heat exchanger. Full Comp Cam kit. Mahle pistons...on & on- it is a great, unsuspecting car
