Pretty impressive how he persevered through so much heartbreak in the majors with some losses almost being cruel. Shoots 75 in the 84 US Open Playoff. Leads after 54 in every major of 1986 but only closes one of the four. Four straight back nine birdies on the back, including an absurd one on 17, and then just has such an errant shot after the perfect drive to lose. Shoots 75 in the final round of the 86 US Open. Drops four strokes to go into the final hole of the PGA tied and then Tway has a miracle hole out and he loses. In 1987 he loses in a playoff to another miracle hole out at Augusta. In 1989 he birdies 9, 10, 13, 15, 16, 17 and is tied for the lead and yet again hits a horrible approach and misses the playoff by one shot. Then shoots a final round 64 to make the playoff, going into the final hole is tied for ten lead in the playoff; then plays the hold so badly he concedes. And of course the most famous of all with the 96 masters. But man he just took a lot of tough losses in the majors but never stopped coming.

His comment about trimming the tree on the range with his irons to get used to how to flight the ball is something I think a lot of amateurs miss. People are taught to understand the distance they can hit a particular club with but they don't think much about the trajectory. I often play with people that grab a 7 because they're 150yds out but ignore the fact that there is a branch 10yds in front of them they need to stay under. They hit it smack into the tree. Knowing what club you need to get over or under something is vital.

That he only won 2 majors with all of those near misses is actually pretty amazing. The 1996 Masters is one that I'm sure will stick in his crawl until the day he dies because he had that tournament won easily. Sometimes you can want something so much that you forget to just go out and perform and he just flat out choked that Sunday. As good as he was he had a bit of a mental block going on in majors for whatever reason. It's why Jack has 18 and Tiger has 15 but Norman only has 2.

Rake one ball at a time to a position in front of you. This will remove the multiple balls from your field of vision. This one ball is what you would see on the T box and fairway when you play for real. This will allow you to improve your rhythm and tempo not being anxious to finish all the balls. It's an incredible, unbelievable career! If you look at where he came from; a son of an engineer, and a mom who was near scratch player herself, and the club life etc....and from Australia! Compare that to the easy life that Trevino and Hogan, one learned to play golf with bottles and was born the son a grave digger, the other, had a father that killed himself right in front of him, and lived a life of relative luxury as his older brother left school at 15 to support the family. But Greg's is a true-grit story of unreal efforts to overcome the burden of so much talent, and every door being opened. Look at Trump's kids....he didn't become that. You see, I am a fan.

@@LegolasFan69 interesting question. Since Norman goes down as one of the players who has least performed to his potential (like Agassi in tennis), it would seem that a bit of humility might shine through. His tskes of going from strength to strength seems surprising. His record in personal relationships is pretty telling also. And then there is the ubiquitous moan among men today - “I wish my daddy had been more encouraging”. No not about me, but about insight, oh yeah. And what about his 40 year quest to upend the traditions of golf? Rock music and contrived teams. It seems that the driving force here is money. Phenomenally successful athletes perhaps could be seen as having the luxury of considering the real draw of golf - its traditions and history. So as a diehard fan of the game, it could be said to be about me - I barely watch the diluted PGA fields and barf at the LIV circus. I also feel kind of bad that Rory has been collateral damage

We want, as fans, to watch the best fields the most often. As a former professional tennis player, I will always remember the sense of awe walking out onto the centre court of Wimbledon. @@user-dv3do1od2r You say he's the biggest choke artist in golf, but now he has the last laugh because now he is worth over Billions of dollars and and finally got back at the PGA Tour with 2022 LIV Golf , and got robbed twice in final Rounds of Major Tournaments 1986 by Bob Tway and Larry Mize , should have at least 4 or 5 majors.

The Story of taking Bets on the Course with members is recounted by Greg ( I like Greg ) But this is embellished -- was $800 down with 2 holes to play ( almost 30 weeks wages) -- said was offered to double -- So either down $1600 or Break Even -- Greg embellished said Down $1600 or up $800 - that is not Double its a $800 2 /1 odds -- so has he simply made error of recollection or lied -- If Lied other tales may also become less credible to believe
I googled found a write up on interview in 2019 -- it highlights the double -- but is more accurate to what the true bet was -- not gregs recollection
I said I like Greg - I do - great golfer - great businessman - great attitude - love Liv Golf
    Just didnt like Embellished Story
