Fyi. Charles Wright received one of the first gold Carnagie Medals of Honor for saving Gus Batey with help of two other friends. A group of friend took a wagon up the old logging road for a Sunday picnic. The cliff outcrop where Gus fell is called Fool's Rock.

America's tallest cliffs are in Molokai, Hawaii, where half of the Island apparently broke off and fell into the sea.

You guys make some of the best hiking videos for the southeast region! Please keep it up! We were waiting for you to get to Whiteside! My wife and I do a good bit of hiking in GA, TN , and NC. Whiteside Mtn. is without doubt the best bang for the buck for views in the Appalachians and is in our top hikes. It's a relatively easy climb with priceless payoffs and recommend it anyone who doesn't like to hike. For the brave, there is a cut-off from the trail between "The extension of Puddle Rock" and "Mini Cave" which will take you to a breathtaking unfenced cliffs edge wide enough to sit, have a picnic, and watch the peregrine falcons.

Those mountains are literally water towers in the sky for us, with snow melt every year, streams that start on the Blue ridge and a wall which catches the clouds from the Atlantic and gets 50 inches of rain annually and snow, Thank God for the Appalachians. That water then irrigates several states and rivers around it. What's crazy is the Appalachians are lower than the Rockies but some have the same prominence, Mt Leconte in Tennessee is about 6,500 ft the prominence is 5,200 from base to summit. In Colorado Pikes peak is over 14,000 ft and only 5,400 feet in prominence, only 200 ft more, most 6,000 ft Appalachian peaks are 3- 4,000 ft in prominence though.
    Praise God for these mountains
    God bless.

You're correct. Mt. Leconte was the most difficult hike we've done but absolutely amazing!

@@buildthedream77 Awesome, I want to hike it, and stay at the cabins, that would be very special like a honey moon thing or something, you said the elevation was tough, I've never felt that, where are you from?

@@kevintodd8195 the elevation wasn't bad, the first time there in the highlands (Whiteside mountain) we just felt slightly slightly harder to go up hill. Honestly, after the first hike I didn't even notice it at all. The elevation that was more difficult for me was actually mount le conte in the 6000 foot region and on. But it still wasn't too bad either. We are from north Georgia in the 1000 ft elevation

Whiteside is one of my favorites!! We hiked the opposite way and came down the gravel road. There's several hidden lookouts off the beaten path that are worthy to follow. Love your videos!
