    UPDATE FOR CANADIANS: In this video we said Canadians can buy MagicBands through their resort reservation. Recently this policy has changed and you can no longer do so. You will have to visit the gift store at your resort and purchase your MagicBands.
    A big thanks to @gamur2 for bringing this to our attention.

    On our trip in May, James couldn’t find his regular magic band before we left home, so he ended up buying a magic band + and convincing me to get one too. I bought the Be Happy band. Let me tell you… that band, lighting up with its super positive messaging during fireworks… hearing Minnie Mouse’s voice as I waved by her statue …. That band brought me so much joy! I didn’t even want to buy it at all, and I am so glad that I did! I love it so much.

    Thank you for this video! I was searching all over for this up to date explanation. We are taking our kids for the first time. My husband and I haven’t been since 2013 and SO much has changed in terms of you now pay for so many things that used to be complimentary. (Airport shuttle, magic bands, fast pass…so sad!) I think I’m going to forgo the magic band and use my phone/the key to the world card. I think my 5 year old daughter will think the card is just as exciting as the band!! I’ll save the 100 dollars and use it for genie plus or something!! Thanks again for the confirmation!!

    I've put my annual pass in my iPhone wallet and loaded that to my apple watch. I can check into the park, into lighting lanes and tap to get ride pictures with my watch. Bascially like a Magic Band.

    Magic band+ are rechargeable. (comes with a charging cord)
    So they last more than 2-3 years.
    Note: charge them every six months even though you may not be actively using them, to keep the battery conditioned.

    • @MapleMickey
      @MapleMickey  Před 5 měsíci

      You're absolutely right and that's a great tip on keeping the batteries conditioned! It's the regular magic bands that are said by Disney to, "last two years". Though we are hearing from others that they have lasted up to 5-7 years. So maybe a bit of a money grab?! 😉 Thanks for informing the community!

    • @MapleMickey
      @MapleMickey  Před 5 měsíci

      Our understanding is the RFID requires power. This is the part of the magic band that will link to your photo pass rides pictures etc. The NFC part of the band is passive (requires no power) so will still work for the entrance, your resort room, and those close proximity applications.

    • @MapleMickey
      @MapleMickey  Před 5 měsíci

      Disney gives a two year life span. However, we have many saying that both applications have worked long.

    Frequent DW visitor. I prefer the MB+. Helps to have the additional features. Bad part is the battery life isn't very long. If you play the bounty hunter game the battery will drain quickly. Another cool feature is the vibrations. The band will vibrate when you walk by an interaction point or during shows.
    Regular MB will lose the location features after a few years but still work at touch points. Don't throw your fancy band away!
    Disney use to give those band savers to annual passholders and they came with the Dooneys. Don't know if still a thing.
    Enjoyed the content.

    I really love your video. Well organized and solid information!
    Constructive Criticism: I wish you had started with the segment "What is a Magic Band and why should I care?" Your energy is really high, and it's a really well done synopsys. You seem a lot happier which drew me in, and it fits the title. Really, this is a video about choice, but your your title is about Magic Bands. Perhaps the title could be about how you don't need a magic band. Then, you could go in order of price. It would be easier for this brrain to see what the trade offs are.

      Great question. Everyone in your party has to have some form of “ticket” whether it be the free card, mobile magic, Magic Band, or Magic Band +.
      You can mix and match those in your party. For instance Lisa likes to have a magic band, we would get our kids the magic band + so they could interact with things in the park and have the photo pass connection. I (Lucas) prefer not spending money on the upsell and just use my phone (mobile magic) or the free card.
      Hope that helps.

    I also live in Canada and I’m heading to WDW in about 3 months, staying at a Disney hotel. You said that the magic bands can’t ship to Canadian addresses but that you can get them shipped to your hotel and pick them up once you arrive. I can’t order them through my reservation, how did you guys do it? It literally says on the booking:
    Due to your region, you will not be able to proceed with your MagicBand purchase.

    • @MapleMickey
      @MapleMickey  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Good to know. Just did a deep dive and it looks like they changed their policy recently. They no longer do preorders on Magic-bands. You can purchase them at the resort gift shop and connect them. Unfortunately that means no discount. Bummer. Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

      @@MapleMickey thanks for the quick reply! That’s what I assumed but just wanted to check if I was missing something. I honestly find it a bit unfair that international guests don’t get to use the discount on the magic bands. Completely fine that they don’t ship anywhere but the states, they should be able to just give a discount for their own hotel guests once they arrive if they’re not from the states. Thanks for the info guys! 😀

      There's two systems in the magicband: an active long-range signal that relies on the internal battery that is used to link your ride photos, and a passive system like in tap-to-pay credit cards (or the card ticket option) that doesn't require battery and works every time you touch the band to something. The active system stops working if the battery dies, but the passive system should keep working indefinitely.
