Great drill. Love the competitive part of it. Especially for younger guys. Cant let that guy behind pass you at home. Did you start with 2 guys at each base so theres one next ready to go? Cant wait to run this with my 13u guys. Thanks for your time

Thanks! Yes, we keep 18 players at the varsity level, so with five stations in this drill (two stations at home plate and one station at first, second, and third base), that means there's 3+ players at each station. The math works out well.

I couldn't really see what the guys on 1st were doing. Do you incorporate your jump leads in this drill?

When rounding the base, how important is hitting the bag with your left foot?

Great question. Players are all different in terms of height, stride length, etc., so we don't mandate hitting the bag with left (or right). Most importantly, we coach our guys to strive to hit the inside corner of the bag without breaking stride -- we don't want players stutter-stepping so they can hit it with a certain foot -- hit the bag with whichever foot is next in stride. So, long story short, don't break stride.

What does the runner on 1st base do? I couldn't see it

Great question.
Runner at home in LH hitter’s box: home to first.
Runner at home in RH hitter’s box: home to second.
Runner at 1B: first to third.
Runner at 2B: second to home.
Runner at 3B: tags and scores.
Note: After runner at 3B tags and scores, he then gets in the LH hitter’s box line (home to second). After runner at 2B goes from second to home, he then gets in RH hitter’s box line (home to first). Helpful memory cue for players here is, if you have a short run (third to home), you have a long run next (home to second). If you had a long run (second to home), you have a short run next (home to first).
