    As a Finn I was sweating bullets before the final score, what a relief when everything was added together. 🥳 And yes Turku archipelago and eastern lake district are well worth a revisit. Most of the people live in the western and southern parts but Saimaa, Koli, North Karelia are incredibly beautiful. 💓 Have a nice trip in Sweden!

    We could feel watching your videos that you had a special feeling with Finland, I was ready to bet ;) and as a french/expat in finnish lapland, I totally get why. I've visited Norway a few times, and it's wonderful. But idk why, the feeling was really more "special" with finland, I fell in love.

    Interesting content 👍You missed some of the biggest attractions in Finland like the vast archipelago between Turku/ Åbo and Åland islands. Some have even compared it with Greece archipelago. Another one is the lake district of eastern Finland. 😌👍 But you can never see all in one trip. Maybe it is a reason to return😌👍

    Explaining the internet in Finland: There are and always has been inexpensive mobile data plans. Since practically everyone has unlimited, uncapped data plans at 15-30€ cost per month, we don't have much wifi hotspots. Best advice for people coming in from outside EU (roaming is inexpensive in EU) is to buy any SIM card. Elisa is one of companies, others work well also. R-kioski is an easy place to buy them.

    Great informative perspective 👍!
    That said, it's a pity( at peak tourist season), a few grumpy bad tomatoes crossing on ferry, sums up the Norwegians lot? Frankly, I lived in all 3 Scandinavian countries (Sweden the longest), and there is a more serious sober personality in Finland & Sweden.
    It's a wall barrier reserved, personality (example reference Hunts thick ketchup), once broken through, the Finns & Swedes are friends for life.(I was engaged to a Finn, and married to a Swede for 23 years).
    Norwegian people, (OK, off season then), are warm, generous, caring lot. They also have a quite good sense of humor too - extra points. Comparison of these countries per( age group perspective) traveling, my son (age 35) differs than the different times of my life travel & lived in these countries.
    At age of 17 & 19 hitchhiking in the '70s, for over two half years. I'd give it a different rating. Sweden 🇸🇪 banned hitchhiking in its whole country, so with limited funds it really sucked. I 70's, The Swedes use gestures and unmentionable language out their car windows at me. Even tobacco spitting.
    Finland tolerated hitchhiking, but traveling solo put me in some sketchy situations. Ended taking a bus transportation, into next country.
    Whereas Norway allowed hitchhiking, and many Norwegians took me closer to my destination (out of their way), to even renting an over night accommodation for me when the weather was nasty. Gifts of meals, and groceries too. Some would give me their relatives addresses & phone numbers to make contact with in the days ahead.(They called ahead, giving my name & description). Those days, I tent camp in the woods, mainly.
    The older I have become, I found excitement & eagerness to return to these beautiful lands & it's people. It's my second home.
    My son traveled via van, with his cousins to all 3 countries., in June & July, 2022. His experience was unforgettable (getting in some meet-up and concerts).👍🧡🍄💛🌻🌿💚

      There is definitely a generational switch with this. Younger finns especially are noticeably more open and warm and I'd say the increasing global atmosphere has opened up older finns a bit too and they are not as rigid and shy/reserved as they used to be.

    I have watched your Norway/Finland videos and just now I found out your channel is called Lindy Vanner because you dance lindy hop - and you danced in Gothenburg?? Or did I misunderstand? Swing dance and lindy hop is very popular in the Nordic countries, there is so much amazing content you could make by dancing with locals or for locals. And why can't I find a single dance video on your channel?

    • @sprintervanconversions
      @sprintervanconversions  Před 2 lety

      This channel really came to life during the pandemic…hence no dancing. Since then we’ve only been to a couple of events, one being Athens Rhythm Hop, which we have a video about :) Our other channel Jumpin At The Seaside is all about swing dance from our festival that we run in Brighton :) we lived in Gothenburg for a while a few years back but Gabi learnt Lindy Hop when she was 15 back in Lithuania and Sam learnt when he was 21 in London :)

      We spent exactly the same time in both countries! 25 days each and no more then 2 nights in the same sleeping spot at all. On that basis it’s as fair as it could be! We took a long drive past the arctic circle center but be honest, although the scenery is nice, it’s average in terms of the rest of Norway. U get what you pay for though, Norway is more expensive because the scenery is one-of-a-kind. Probably only in the fjordlands in New Zealand may rival it. And free firewood??? Yeah, that's not gonna be for long, I bet come the winter the firewood will be in short supply. And Norway is already inundated with tourists, they DON'T want low-spending vanlifers so of course they won't make in convenient. Probably the only people they dislike more, are cruise passengers. They also do not spend much as the cruise ship takes care of their needs.
