Funny, today's First Reading (June 19th, 2024) was 2 Kgs 2:1, 6-14-so I got a double portion of Elijah. ☺😇 Thank you, Fr. Mike and Ascension, for another blessed podcast.

Father Mike I understand why you ask to subscribe why don’t you tell them it supports your endeavor, your sponsor and also it is a great way to track lives being changed for the Lord? Also, I want to thank you. I just reached out to a young girl I know is reading the OT (with no study guide or no Father Mike) urging her to listen to you. Without your commentary the OT would be a blood bath and make no sense which is probably why i have never been able to get past exodus. Thank you for your insight. I find as time goes on I focus less on what doesn’t sit well with my “reason” and see the pattern -- god’s grace, the fall, repentance and redemption. What a gift. (and you are funny at time ta boot!)
18:18 He was not taken up by the fiery chariots but by a whirlwind. The fiery chariots only separated them, this is something that was brought to my attention when I was taught and it’s a good note to be aware of. The blessing would have been missed if he became distracted by the chariot.🙏🏾

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.
God would reply to St. Gertrude that He would use whatever was offered to Him for the faithful departed, according to His inclination to show pardon & mercy.
May the Heart of Jesus be loved everywhere 💓 🙏

Thank you so much dear Fr. Mike. This one was really complex but well explained as always. I never realized we have some repeated names in the Kingdom of the Noth and in the Kingdom of the South because they are actually different persons. Another thing is that's why we as catholics should never take literally what we found in the Bible specially in the Old Testament, because as we see today, it's a very different teaching and it's actually talking about the True Wrship to Our Lord. It is an important episode that busts some translation myths and also shows the glory of God.
*Amaziah followed the law of Moses - Fathers should not be put to death for children and children not put to death. Everyone should die for their own sins.
*Amaziah, however, wasn't perfect as he immediately strayed away from God. Fr. Mike is right. Many times, when we go back to bad habits or negativity, it shows that we are not strong from within. Thus, we need to be not strong just from outside but from the inside through study of the scripture, discipline, prayer, a strong community, etc.
* God has the power to cast down to raise (to help us to win or to lose).
*Do not worry about the lost money or material things, God shall give us much more if we are faithful to Him.
* Elisha received the double power / God's grace as an inheritance from Elijah after Elijah departed to Heaven. No trace of his body thus, it is indeed funny when people are looking for it, but Elijah knew that they wouldn't be able to find it. Elijah making salty water whole again shows the glory of God.
* If it was not this episode, I wouldn't have known the fact that the battle near the end wasn't about old vs young but about the right way of worshiping God (bald men/elders from this situation) vs. young men from Bethel, as well as Dan, where Jeroboam had made false worship places (ruffians / young men and not young boys). I am grateful to Fr. Mike, thank you for sharing this!

June 19,2024. Day 171. Elisha receives a double portion of Elijah’s spirit. What he actually received was the oldest son’s inheritance. Elisha immediately starts doing miracles. In Bethel he’s accosted by a group of young men, this translation says small boys, but young men is also an accurate translation. Because of their behavior 2 she bears come out of the woods & mauls them to death. This isn’t a group of boys taunting an elderly man; this is a group of young men, possibly false priests, taunting a man of God. It’s the battle of idolatry versus worship of the true God. Lord, keep us in worship to you with faithfulness & steadfastness of heart. Let us not be tempted away by the false idols of our time. 🙏❤️

You would never send your children to play outside the city gates beyond the city walls. They are there for protection from bears, lions and robbers. This is not a group of children; it’s a gang. A gang taunting Elisha before attacking him.

With all the sinfulness in the world today why did we need Jesus?? We could have continued to live in the Old Testament where God just struck down dead all those who turned against Him and we'd have a world a lot better than if God had sent Jesus and turned his back on the world.
