  • This video is a comparison of a carburetor that I bought off of Amazon instead of going through Factory Mercury. This carburetor was much cheaper has mercury wanted I believe $225 for it and I only paid $72.99 from Amazon.

Greetings from Bosnia and Herzegovina (Europe). I have a problem with the factory carburetor and I need to buy a new one. I'm looking for an alternative and I came across your video (it seems to be the solution). Factory is too expensive for me (about 330 USD is the price here).
Please give me advice on which model exactly fits (the one you used and which proved to be the solution for you).
My Mercury is 3.5 HP (2020 year of manufacture)
Thank you anyway. The video is great

All the carbs I have seen where there was a real difference was the bore dia on the throttle plate side. I have the 2.5 hp model of that motor and the 32.00 carb from Amazon that I got had a larger throttle plate. All I needed to adjust after swapping the carb was the idle speed. I was told when I bought the motor that the carb should probably be replaced as his mechanic was unable to get it running just right. Seems all of the parts for these motors are either insanely expensive or no longer available. Kinda wonder if I should be looking for a different brand if I end up using this motor a lot.

hi ,i have same motor 2.5 4 stroke mercury ,i will buy the 35 $ carb on amazon but saw some people saying that it has to be adjusted ,how did you adjust yours ? engine runing ? iddling ? where is the screw for adjustment ? .

    • @tbirdracefan
      @tbirdracefan Před rokem +2

@@juniorundersea The only adjustment I made on mine was lowering the idle speed. Idle screw is easy to locate. It is the one with a spring around it and the tip of it is in contact with the throttle arm. I put the motor in a barrel of water and adjusted it while it was running and in gear. wanted it to run as slow as possible yet not die if I I quickly rolled on the gas. I did have to make a couple of fiber gaskets as the replacement carb did not come with any. You can find gasket material at a auto parts store if you need it.

@@tbirdracefan oh thats easy .if its just that screw is ok ,i though it was the air fuel mixture screw or the iddle screw jet that some carbs have it in a hole and have to insert a screwdriver to adjust it ,ok my friend thanks very much for you help .i will buy the 3.5 carb and install it in my 2.5 ,everyone says that it works amazing after replace with it ..thanks again

I’m currently trying to fix the one on the left which just won’t idle, but I can’t seem to get the idle jet out. I have the smaller Mercury 2.5. I cant work out if I can get the plate off to get to the air fuel mixture screw

I also had issues with that. It was one of the reasons that I ended up purchasing a new one. The olds one was nickel and diming me to death. I believe I paid $72 for a brand new one from Amazon

I have the same problem as yours with my 2020 3.5 hp mercury. It only works if I give close to half throttle or when choke is turned on. It does not stay on idle. I tooked the carb out, cleaned inside and changed with fresh fuel but couldn't find the idle jet then I found this video so it is different than other carbs it is impossible to reach idle jet. how did you reached yours ?

@@ugurtopsever6083 I wasn't able to get to it. I ended up buying a new carburetor for the motor and it was the best decision for me. Since changing the carburetor I haven't had a single problem. I've even taken it out in the ocean and it still starts and idles like new. I wish I could have been more help to you.

Hi Sherman, I've been running this carb for a couple of years now and have had no issues with it whatsoever. I run this on my 15'4" flat back canoe in the ocean and freshwater. My top speed to date was between 10-11 mph with two people and full load of fishing gear.

Che modello di carburatore monta originale il mercury 3,5?

Questo è un sostituto diretto per il carburatore di fabbrica. È molto più economico nel prezzo. Secondo me è un prodotto migliore. Spero che questo abbia risposto alla tua domanda.

You may be able to try www.mercurymarine.com. There was another company called www.readysetboat.com but I don't think it's an original. In my opinion you'd be better off going with the one that I purchased in this video. It has performed flawlessly since I installed it. I've used it in both freshwater and saltwater. It was a fraction of the cost of a new factory one. I believe the factory one was $225 and I paid around $70. Try those two sites though and good luck out there.

I believe the original carb is made in China, and the aftermarket model is made in Korea. I think China got schooled at their own game.

That could be, I was more impressed with the aftermarket version. It was also a lot cheaper and I feel better constructed. That's just my opinion though.

@@Country_LivingOffGrid1741 I got the same aftermarket version too. But just let me say, changing the carb on this motor will not increase horse power. How much power you get is determined by engine displacement, not carburetor size.
