Why would small be a good thing? Less media is better?
Can I use this filter with a 40 gallon tank
I would not use any of these filters on a 40Gal... Apart from the Fluval 407... And that I would assume would create too much flow for small fish...
Penn plaza filter easy to prime and clean?
I don't know... But, are any canister filters really easy to prime? I have heard of many differing types that folk struggle to prime... I guess it is no less of a problem than most.
I wish someone would do a vid that does a "Tank Size" rec:- 100ltr, 200ltr,300ltr+ (And Gallons too)... They just go for what is current and in trend, and it leaves you trawling the interwebs looking for many filters that do not meet your tank sizing and stock... Wasting many hours of searches and vid watching...
What I would like to see is a vid cut into sizing categories:- Top Five for 100-200ltr's. Top Five for 200-300ltr's. Top Five for 300-400ltr's (US Gallons also recommended)... You see where I'm going here...
Then it would be much easier to see what would suit your set up, and needs without spending many hours searching and trolling forums for info dumps of how others are doing things... @Pondguru offers much info about the filters he has pimped, and the recommended stock and tank size after he has pimped the filter.
Yeah, I know many forums are helpful indeed (they have helped me also over the years), but these vids do nothing to help at all... Nothing at all, but gain clickbait numbers for YT cashing in..
Can I clean the filter with fresh water
No, use aquarium water only
Use tank water only to clean/rinse out your media... Or, use conditioned water at need...
