About Me
“The world needs more makers.” ~ RoyerX
Being from a family of creatives whose motto was to produce not to consume was etched into Kyle from a very early age and being educated at home gave him many opportunities to work hard at his own creative pursuits.
At eighteen, Kyle graduated high school and two weeks later received his Journeyman Smith Stamp and a rare double win of the George Peck Award and Bill Moran Award, “the 18-year-old prodigy”, “the blazing bladesmith” was what BLADE Magazine labeled him. Following that victory in November, 2009 BLADE Magazine ran a special five page spread “That Young and That Good”, the article went on to say “His ability to masterfully execute new designs, processes and artistic damascus patterns is remarkable. In spite of his young age, his fit/finish and attention to detail is representative of some of todays most known and sought after makers.” He was one of two to achieve Mastersmith by the age of twenty. His knives and his skills are highly sought after worldwide.
In the early years, if you weren’t at a knife show or a hammer-in, learning from the masters, information was hard to find, there was no online content and only a few books and videos, so it was a lot of trial and error in the knife shop. Kyle is passionate to teach makers his more than fourteen years of experience.
“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” We hope we can inspire you on your maker’s journey.
Thanks for watching
Enjoy!

Every time Kyle takes a coffee break, I wait patiently to hear an in depth coffee review.

Good to have you hanging out with us all

@@KyleRoyerKnives Hebrews, you got awesome jokes. Love this channel's content.
He never swears! So good to hear he’s a human being, not just a blacksmith for the gods.
Crazy how precise you are in everything you make, you gotta make a video on what techniques you use to get such great geometry!
your work is just something else. you're really talented
I absolutely love this channel. I feel like I’m actually hanging out in the shop, watching the work and getting the mental feed on what the maker is thinking. Awesome content
Hey Kyle... this is gold. Thanks for the tips on mammoth, not used to working with it and this helps.
Spectacular my friend
Keep Forging On
Dad
Thank you for the videos guys. My knife making abilities have come on a lot from watching. You are a great talker and really explain things well. Much respect from the uk.
I always chuckle when you’re using the very special gold plated tools. I recon that they must be for the precise measurements that a master smith has to make. 👌🏻😎
Congratulations! Thank you for your time and sharing of your knowledge! You have pushed me to aim to the quality even in the parts of a Knife that only the maker will ever see!
Thanks nik
We love knowing that we may have made a difference
We will let the entire team know
Now being the Dad,I have to encourage you to aim to a higher quality in other areas of our lives as well. The hardest one for me is the ones closest to me.
I do well at that, however there’s always room for improvement
Thanks for sharing nik
God bless you on your journey
Dad doing dad things
Whenever I drill through mammoth tooth, I glue on a piece of vulcanized paper liner material so I don't get any blow out. That goes away during shaping.
I would say this is watchmaker level attention to detail! Yes, I'm Swiss.
I remain in awe of your work. Its so inspirational and I wish I had the space to get myself started at blacksmithing, however living in NYC makes it very difficult. Keep up the amazing work, I can't wait to see how this one turns out!
Hey Vorpal thanks
Start asking around or hanging around other artists working in steel
I’ll bet you could find somebody local you could hang with
The art and knife art culture is a very receptive and sharing atmosphere as a rule
Start today somehow
Do a search online
Go meet and greet
Be humble and and disarming and you may be surprised in the doors that will open for you

@@KyleRoyerKnives oh my gosh thank you so much for taking the time to reply to me. I have officially reached out to some work shops to see if they have, or know of any apprenticeship programs. Fingers crossed! Thank you for the motivating words!
I've always used small cone Diamond bits on the presentation side to keep from chipping out, that's an awesome trailer👍🤯
Yes! Been waiting for this one since ep1. I love the blade shape. Really looking forward to how a "normal" size knife turns out.
4:24 "Africa" by Toto!

last ten seconds is like the animal at the zoo that the zookeeper REALLY regrets getting
Hey Demphure
Good point. It wasn’t my turn to watch those two! Good times.
Dad
nice drill press Lol Be well and be safe................Bill
Nice work as always Kyle, keep it up
That looks good like that man u are a royal black smith (Lego ninjago refrinse)
Dunno how you ended up in my feed. But I really enjoy your personality and video style.
Thanks Jcc
Glad you’re enjoying the vids
Good to have you hanging out with us all

Turn up the speed for those tiny drill bits, they will cut better.
Nice!
You can prevent blowout when drilling. Clamp a backer board against the side you don't want to blow out, you will have a clean hole every time. This works for metal as well, to prevent a burr. Clamp a metal backing piece and drill away. I'm really surprised you weren't aware of this, it's a common woodworking method. Hope it helps.
The side he didn't want to blowout was curved and he also had clamps holding it together but thanks for the tip.
@@gimmejr I see nothing clamped to the production side. A 16th inch hole, on that slightly curved surface, can be easily backed up by a piece of wood.
Thanks for another helpful lesson. Bye bye!
Too bad that ivory is curved outside or you could clamp to the outside & drill in. Wonder if there is a way to make a jig to get a straight outside surface, maybe even like 2 pieces of steel with screws to make everything level, then you wouldn't have to worry about blow out and you could reuse it... Love these builds, hope all is well, take it easy.
Hi Kyle and team. Thanks for sharing. Always inspiring to watch you. That sanding block you use to level out the ivory. Did you make it. Where could I get something like that?
Hey Kyle, towards the end of the video when you were truing up the handle/guard mating surfaces - you intentionally neglected to sand the mammoth ivory to the point of it being completely flush with the frame. Was this done to account for the expanding/shrinking of the ivory? I will be using mammoth ivory for the first time within the year so every little bit of information in terms of how this stuff behaves really helps when planning.
Thank You & Happy New Year
Another great video! Where did you get that flat plate that you used to true up the handle?
When making damascus in what liquid do you put it in?
what is the difference in measurements between the cable housing and the tang?
what disc sander are you running kyle?
Use a much smaller drillbit to go through then use the right size from the face side you won't havevand chip out
Great video! Where did you get that table that holds the sandpaper (for Sanding the butt of the handle flat)? That's really nifty!
He got it from knivesandstones, it’s called “The Ultimate Sandpaper Holder” by a company called Kasfly.
how did u get black nails? Nice work !!
Hey lonut
Probably just occupational hazard 😉
Team Royer
#NOTESQUAD!!!!
Line up PINS**? lol awesome videos as always.
I have an idea... if you stick play doh on the other side of the drill hole, it'll be supported and less likely to blow. Physics FTW?
Hey freenarative
Give it a go and let us know what the results are 😬
Remember that you have to use ivory 😉
Thanks for hanging with us
Team Royer
Handle heavy? Needs some speed holes on the inside. ;-)
Dude!
Will this be raffled off or sold?
The knife was a custom order, it is already sold
😥
Like your biiiiiiiiiiiip effect !
Hey santa dad

20 seconds worth it at the end... I think?

"coffee break"
Sorry if I have to tell you Kyle, but you should not allow Josh to do your fingernails. He is good with camara and stuff, but his paintjob on your nails..... . It confused me trough the whole video.
Haha! Thanks a good one! :D
