I would love if you cover the Zelda manga you beautiful chocolate bastard
If nothing else I'd love to see you cover the four swords manga! It's so different from the original game it's spawned its own sub-fandom lol
I'm of the opinion the timeline was not real the couple times nintendo said it in response to fan questions. It wasn't until the fans really really believed it they felt the need to make a real timeline.
Lmao agreed😂
I played it when it first came out. I got it and my n64 as a Christmas gift and I was IMMERSED. I have never felt like I was the one running around in a game than I did then
You can really take for granted how much this game inovated. Game designers are wizards, especially when they're limited to a piece of hardware.
Blows my mind how this is all built off the mario 64 engine.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, greatness in art comes from limitations. If you can just do whatever you want without having to come up with creative work arounds, you're probably not creating anything compelling
Uh. No. Not at all.
@dougr8646 Disney has entered the chat 😂😂😂
You can call it the nintendo engine, really. They were developed in tandem and are both heavily modified away from the starting point.
And Dk64 was the beginning of the end of all that. Mf's had a bug they couldn't figure out how to fix, solution? Bundle the expansion pack.
Now thats the default. Design the game, wait for the hardware to catch up... Its terrible.
That game was my childhood. Love it still have my n64 and original game. Still works after blowing in the carts.
The turning into trees is because of censorchip in germany at the time. In the german version of the game the guy in the lost woods dosen't become a stalfos, but a tree instead.
BS.
It's Stalfos in Germany.
@sidnew2739
In the OoT 3DS Version it is stalfos, not in the N64 Original, there it is called plant. OOT 3DS came out when censorship in germany has become more relaxed.
@@Ragnar734 I remember that differently. Maybe HIM, but I'm sure the Stalfos-Lore in general was mentioned.
I'd like to see a video on all the manga
If and when you cover Pokemon, complete with an origin oracle for Pikachu, you definitely need to address the absolutely unhinged Pokemon Pocket Monsters manga and how it ultimately determined how Pikachu woukd be the mascot, instead of Clefairy.
Absolutely. I've been extremely curious about that manga. A very old panel of one Charizard biting the neck of another while blood gushes out stands out in my childhood memories and I need to find out what happened.
The soundtrack for Ocarina of Time still blows me away-Such awesome vibes, so many unforgettable melodies ❤
OoT is probably not the best video game in history, but perhaps it actually has the best video game soundtrack ever. I don't know a game that has such a high density of genius melodies. Even f**ing owl theme is masterpiece. (Though admittedly, a few great tracks were originally from ALttP, like Kakariko village.)
Right?! Every time I hear the Spirit Temple theme I have that moment all over again where I think, “how is this from an N64 game?”
pro tip: you can get to hyrule pretty quick by reverse hopping.
Hearing the music from the game "legend of zelda, spirit tracks" from the ds is just frustrating me .. gosh I have a love/hate relationship with that game.. 😅😅
Luckily that "track" is a banger.
The fact that this game has spawned so many branching points is crazy. It's a sad story to think that Ganondrof will continue to follow a curse for the rest of his life because of the evil soul is demise
It's not real man
@@dougr8646they are real to me
Right?
7:20 This isn't really canon, but I've always thought that the reason the sword sealed Link for 7 years is because Link pulling the sword as a child is what creates the Downfall Timeline! Like Baby Link immediately tries to go after Ganondorf with a sword as tall as he is and gets murdered, so the sword or the goddesses or whoever decide to make a new timeline where they seal him just so he has a chance
Woah woah woah woah hold the phone that's a fantastic theory !! I love that ! I'm definitely adopting that as headcanon :0
I’m 41, I’ve played EVERY Zelda the month it was released. Three of the most magic moments…
3. When link runs out of the chamber the first time in Breath of the Wild
2. The piano scales as the horse and Link run across a sunset on hyrule field as the start screen for OoT.
1. The opening 8-but notes and the flashing start screen the first time I put the game in my nes in 1986.
All moments you knew you had something epic in front of you. But nothing will ever match the very first time, and I think that goes for whatever your age is and game you played first.
Thank you for sharing this. Link’s Awakening DX for the GBC was my first Zelda and the moment it clicked was when I was fully signed on to this series. Always good to hear each generation’s moments first moment where the magic settled in
@@TheMentok The magic 6 year old me felt, it’s honestly one of my earliest actual memories, it was that impactful. My friends and I would let the start screen ride for minutes because after a couple of them a credits would roll of all the different items in the game, and that along with the little manual were all we had to figure out what we’d gotten, what we missed or what items were left. The magic sword became our lives’ purpose, lol.
But from your post, I see that there’s always a special place in everyone’s heart for the first interaction they have with the series, no matter the game. I used OoT as an escape my freshman year in college. So much of my life I can mark by the specific Zelda, it’s insane.
That game is my favorite childhood on my 3DS version.
I was 12 when it came out, and its essily still one of the most important games of my life
Great work man! The remaster version looks fantastic and the prequel comic's art/story is great. I'd love for you to cover the Manga volumes too
I’d love you to cover the manga! I’ve read 3 or 4 of them and enjoyed it and would love to hear about the rest. I remember the way Sheik being described in the manga being particularly interesting.
the " Mi blood clath " alone deserve a like
Love the content! Are you considering a full timeline video at the end of all of your Zelda videos?
And yes I would watch your zelda manga videos!
Suere Zelda manga is actually good, specially Majora's and Twilight
The Himekawa mangas are amazing and id love to see you cover them.
I would LOVE a series about the mangas!!
reading all the Zelda manga would be fun
I really can't understate how incredible this game is. The first 3D Zelda... with the perfect amount of main Zelda gameplay hallmarks, and while having a simple, easy to follow story on it's face, has one of the best if not, the absolute greatest subtext of any game (check out Good Blood's video of it, it's unbelievable).
It's almost made playing the later Zelda games a bit, difficult. Not that they have hard gameplay or anything, it's just that OoT (maybe MM), had the perfect balance of simplicity with it's Dungeons and Key Items that I think no other Zelda game after it had.
This includes the music as well. I still prefer the older video game music for the most part because their limitations forced them to really focus on the melody of the song, rather than some big orchestral piece. While orchestral pieces have their own place and after listening to the Sonic 30th Anniversary Symphony, probably one of the greatest renditions of the first Sonic game's music, it still falls back on the essence of that single melody you can pick out and hum or whistle.
I would love an open world remake of Ocarina. (Tears of the Kingdom scale )
Also, This game is the reason I named my son Link.
FYI the Collector’s Edition GameCube disk only came with the vanilla version of OoT, and did not include Master Quest.
Ya I noticed that also
Great vid as always; definite yes to a video about the Zelda mangas
Awesome video! But one small correction is that the master quest on GameCube is only on the Ocarina/master quest only disc. The GameCube disc that has the 4 Zelda games on it only has the regular version of Ocarina and no master quest.
2:46 Nice ToeJam & Earl reference there! Loved that game growing up along with Ocarina of Time
Big yes on covering the mangas! I remember reading a lot of them when I was a kid By Very Legitimate MeansTM and they had so much variety to them that I don’t think I appreciated enough at the time. Like I wanted so much more from the WW one than what it gave but in hindsight it was charming that Link was that much of a doofus 😂 There was also so much lore in them that even if it’s not canonical to the games, still has recoloured the way I see a bunch of the somewhat random events/boss fights.
There is no way I can possibly explain how mindblowing this game was in the 90s. There was simply nothing like it.
It actually kinda bugs me that most of the retrospect videos are made by people who didnt play the game when it came out. Revisiting it years later after youve played dozens of games that were directly inspired from zelda doesnt do it justice.
3D was brand new. Ocarina of time was honestly the perfect "open world". Im not talking sandbox im talking a world where you traverse and have freedom to explore. Yes, areas are locked out til you get the right tools but that is actually critical to creating a good open world game. It makes a puzzle out of a world that you have the ability to move around and manipulate.
Every single boss was fun, engaging and unique. They were all exciting. Boss battles were a family affair. It was new tech and everyone was interested, even adults who had long stopped playing video games.
I always enjoy your videos
.doing one for the manga would be cool.
This was a great watch! 😻 I especially liked that part where you said that OoT looked like OoT3D to you in 1998, when you were a child. I had that same experience, and then when I heard about OoT3D, I was like, "Whoa. ;___; ". 😸😸😸
Ocarina of Time 3D was my second ever TLoZ game (my fist was Twilight Princess) and the weight of OoT's impact and legacy didn't hit me back then, but I see it for the revolution that it was.
You just had to be there to fully understand i think. It was so mindblowing when it came out. It was like the big bang of video games as we know them.
@@BrandynQuigley I can see that
Here I am listening/watching about events I know all too well just because The Mentok is talking about and I can't resist
16:50 and Link can never go back to his childhood home, not even to look for Navi
This was well done, nice job bro 👏
Thank you 🙌
I played this game for the first time when I was 7. My parents brought it for themselves but I ended up over-taking thier progress 🤣
It was my first Zelda game and I have loved the series ever since
I was instantly in love with OOT since the moment I saw the trailer aired in a movie theater when I was like 7 or 8. I'm pretty sure I begged my parents and had to wait until my birthday, lol but I did NOT put it down for MONTHS and I'm not kidding that this game became my life for awhile lol.
I don’t think the collector’s edition included Master Quest. It included Zelda, Zelda 2, Ocarina, Majora, and a demo of Wind Waker. I got both the Master Quest disc and Collector’s Edition on GameCube, then when I realized I had three versions of OOT, I gave my N64 copy to a friend who had never played it. When I got to Gerudo Valley on one of my GameCube copies, I was surprised to see the Mirror Shield had been redesigned. I had already noticed some minor changes up to this point, but this caused me to actually research what happened, only to realize I had given away a first edition copy of OOT on N64
Also, as someone who collected several of the Zelda Manga back in the day, I’d love for you to cover them at some point. There was also a really cool Link To The Past comic that I think was released in issues of Nintendo Power that I really enjoyed back in the day.
When you ordered the collectors edition, you got the master quest disc. The master quest disc i think was punked a lot by employees, they didnt have one for me when i was supposed to get one and they ended up putting me on a list and i came back in two weeks later to pick it up. Very vivid memory, never had another experience like that.
@@BrandynQuigleyThat wasn’t my experience, but I greatly enjoyed both of them. I remember when you used to be able to play every official mainline Zelda game ever made on the GameCube. What a time.
My local library surprisingly has ALL of the Zelda manga lol which makes me so happy
Saying link's mom turned into a tree is a lot nicer than saying she became a stalfos, which is what the game says become of adults who get lost in the forest. Children becomme skull kids instead, you'd think it would be stalchilds but no they become skull kids. Why the forest hate adults like that though???
She didn't pass away in the Lost Woods though, but in Kokiri Forest. The prequel comic even shows the exact spot she died in town becoming
Mido's house.
I do believe that the combat in Ocarina and subsequent Zelda games were big inspirations for the souls combat.
0:22 nah yeah def need the black experience on this one thanks for doing your part homie
For the Zelda manga, you should try your local library system! I’ve been reading through the twilight princess series with my library
Dude thank you! ❤
The mangas being covered would be really cool.
Oh please cover the Zelda manga! It would be really nice as I'm currently reading through them.
Kokiri are underutilized as a race and lowkey are the most interesting in the series. Wish we saw more of Link's upbringing with them
I would love to see you cover the various zelda manga
Great video
You should totally do a video about majora's mask!! I love love love love ocarina of time! Majora's Mask too. And I adore wind waker
I haven't really gotten into the Legend of Zelda series growing up, having only played Wind Waker as part of a freebie bonus on the Wii U and Link to the Past on the SNES classic. I didn't even have an N64 growing up despite being part of the generation demographic at the time. I wonder how much Ocarina of Time would have made an impact if I played it back then.
No doubt one of the best games I’ve ever played. Played it as a kid on my 64 played it as a teen on my 3DS, and on my Switch as an adult. Completed the game 100% on all platforms, and have beaten this game over 100 times. Still love it just as much.
Great vid. Been waiting for this one as I still believe this is the greatest Zelda game. While waiting, I fired up the 3DS for another run.
I just finished my another run recently. Def the best way to play OOT.
At some point in the future, can u do a video of when Link was a guest charcater in the gamecube port of soul calibur 2?
Using 3DS graphics was really distracting. I don’t understand why you didn’t use original 64 graphics when this is what you were referring to.
Covering the manga would be awesome
Wouldnt mind a manga review series on the games. Plus there are deluxe versions of the mangas where the entire series of a certain game in the zelda franchise is put into one deluxe edition book. (Think all of the Ocarina of time manga in a book and all the Majora's Mask manga in another) i also saw minish cap as one of them so im guessng the WHOLE series of games are getting deluxe edition mangas.
I remember going to pick up a copy at EB games at midnight and playing til like 4am and missed school the next day. Thanks mum! 😂
Zelda Manga, yes pls
God this video takes me right back to being a kid, Zelda was basically my religion for most of my life. Ocarina of time is and always will be a masterpiece. Thank you for including the prequel comics!!
I swear I remember links dad being a Hyrule knight too!! Wtf that is a wacky mandella effect
Nice Video ! Sub & Big Like ! And love retro Zelda games !
15:45 no that occur because ganon only embodies power. but lacks wissdom or courage
Please cover the Zelda manga!
This game was released in North America 2 days before A Bug's Life started playing in theaters.
Somehow that really puts it in perspective. I don’t know why. One of my favorite Pixar movies
@@TheMentok Go look it up and see for yourself. 😏
You don't happen to know about the website and forum community dedicated to finding the triforce after you beat the game?
I mean I get Koizumi here. If I worked for Nintendo and Miyamoto told me something like "could you please make the story simpler ? It's not really necessary" (because Miyamoto is a gameplay over story person) well with all due respect to him, I would straight up say no. Or say "I'll see" so that I don't upset him but not do it.
Please talk about the manga because they're actually really good.
Pokémon videos sound cool in the future
Yeah I'm married to Hyrule Historian, I'm pretty sure that you can't read Gerudo Script (Ger-Rude-oh).
Yesss, do the manga pleeeeasseeee :D
Cover da mangas plz
Isn't there also a Japanese OoT audio drama?
You sould talk about links awakening
Hi owner of GC Zelda collection. No master quest on that disc
cover the twilight princess manga
my theird fav game of all time now im playing on you tube no its not a plug i just couldnt resist to play it as soon as possible having so much fun
What are your first 2 fav games?
@@plooper14 halo 1 being my first fav and pokemon ruby and or/ dpp
I love Zelda, and I love lore, but if it isn't painfully obvious by now that Nintendo NEVER had an larger overarching plan or story I don't know what will clue people in. I mean the Historia book they put out to satiate all the people looking way, way to far into this, and fucked it up even worse. Not everything is, nor should be in the "cinematic universe" style, which ultimately becomes full of coincidence, contrivance and retconning to maintain the resemblance of continuity.
I couldn’t agree more. It was fun to theorize connections back in the day but it’s best when it’s not taking too seriously. I’m somewhat positive Breath of the Wild and on Nintendo decided to do away with timelines (direct sequels aside) and it’s fun watching people struggle to place it somewhere 😂
MENTOK GIVE US THE MANGAS IM TOO BROKE TO BUY THEM MYSELF AND YOURE FUNNIER ANYWAY
How does your voice get sexier every time?
Go cover the Zelda manga
f that water temple! I've finished ocarina of time, 20 plus times. it's where all my friends gave up on the game. tight vid bro
I also don’t believe in the timeline I don’t think it’s something they put much thought into before writing the historia and it seems like just generally the fans care more than the developers lol
It's a shame people don't know about this game anymore.
RIP SONIC CONTENT
It was Mi bloodclawt for me. 😂😂😂
Aside from the official timeline, why don't you vibe with ANY timeline theories?
If you stand on the dirt road the skeletons won't appear
💜‼️🤠
Yoo
3:09 thought he said "little Latina" for some reason
I know it's probably intentional because kids love loud shit but man the volume levels between narrator and game clips is wildly different.
Ganon made his wish???
Riju is a dime
I'm turning this off after two minutes because he keeps showing the 3DS version. Graphics don't matter that much! Show the original!
i do not like the look of the 3ds "upgrade" it looks like plastic poop to my eyes.
Am I the only one that thinks the 3D version looks worse than the og pixely one? idk the newer one looks kinda moldy to me…🤢
And then majora's mask came out and it was so bad it ruins ocarina for me. Worst Zelda game lol
