  • An iconic performance in modern horse racing. Frankel makes it 13 wins from 13 starts on his first start stepped up to 10 furlongs, with a performance that those present on the Knavesmire will still talk about for years to come. Trainer Sir Henry Cecil, in his final months of a battle against cancer, said the win had made him feel "20 years better".

    We are unlikely to see another like Frankel, he is a freak of nature and a TRUE legend. In the Juddmonte he made very good horses look like class 6 no-hopers. He was trotting at the 3F marker and just cruised past them like he was in a training gallop. The reason why this horse is a legend is because of his consistency and truly staggering method oh his victories. No one has ever seen a horse do what he did in the 2000 Guineas. Genius horse, genius trainer...breathtaking!!!

I can only compare him to Ali. A mix of confidence with ability and a certain amount of justified arrogance, yet surprisingly friendly. You don't normally get too close to these stallions, but he had a very nice nature about him.

The form of this race was unbelievable.. No horse cruises past Farhh (Timeform 133) and St Nicholas Abbey (Timeform130) like that - they where champions.. The scary thing about Frankel is we may never have seen the best of him - he beat Farhh by a length further over 10.5f, than a mile - and with extraordinary ease - you can only imagine how incredible he'd be over 12f - He may have been the first horse to break 150+ with Timeform.

I'll debate best ever all day long but he can only race who's put in front of him so I having nothing but admiration for Frankel. Excelebration was vastly overrated by Timeform. One should never quote Timeform's ratings with any degree of certainty. Farhh 133 ? Seriously ? So You Think gave him a hiding doing far more work in the run a cruising through the line.. Battaash given the same rating as the career unbeaten 15 times Group 1 winner Black Caviar lol lol. Battaash has won a single Group 1 and has been beaten 3 of his last 5. Must be some all time great sprinters in Europe if Black Caviar's equal is getting regularly beaten. Funny how Australian 3yo Merchant Navy goes there and beats them both times he runs and July Cup winner U S Navy Flag goes to Australia and is thrashed in all 3 races he runs in. You can compare all the American, European and Australian horses to the mighty Frankel but in the modern era did anyone of the horses you compare him to absolutely destroy everything from 6f to 1m 2f he faced for 3 yrs running without defeat . Respect to black caviar but it was nearly always the same distance against a lot of the same horses

      @postcardterry Před 8 lety +1

      Don`t confuse "great horse" with "superhorse" ! He meant horses regarded as well above the average top class horse. All horses are super/great in the opinion of many observers. Superhorse is quite different !
      Frankel ,Secretariat, Shergar and Arazi are the ones that we hear repeatedly in England,and before the modern era ;Ribot and Sea Bird II.
      Secretariat certainly was not a superhorse because he got beaten far too often! Arazi is similar to Secretariat in that he did something extraordinary at Breeders Cup once. None have improved their reputations at stud although poor Shergar was executed by the IRA ,but did produce a lovely filly ;Maysoon, in his first crop of 3year olds ,and she was placed in 1,000 Guineas.
      I don`t know enough about the two you have mentioned but with solid English pedigrees dating back to great Derby winners such as St Simon(1883) in England, it is possible. However, American racing is too much about blinds, blinkers and Lasix to be taken seriously ! It is also not that good at winning Breeders Cup races where again this year, we saw Europeans dominate the BC Turf. The death of Barbaro at three was a devastating blow for America because he did have the makings of a superstar as American Pharoah is ! Ban Lasix and you will be taken more seriously !

    • @GBeret83
      @GBeret83 Před 9 lety

      Silvia Mendoza , Assuming he would've handled the switch from turf to conventional dirt? Some horses handle the switch without issue, but some horses who've raced exclusively on turf end up just spinning their wheels once they try racing on conventional dirt. A great example of that was Fame and Glory in the Breeders Cup Marathon. On paper, the best horse in the race by a street, but ended up as a DNF that day racing on conventional dirt. That being said, had Frankel raced in the Classic and had no issues with the surface switch I don't see the outcome having been anything much more than a foregone conclusion.

    • @postcardterry
      @postcardterry Před 8 lety +3

      +GBeret83 And why would Henry Cecil have ever thought about the Breeder`s Cup or dirt??? He cared about his horses so much that a trip to America was a non starter! Furthermore why should Britain`s greatest racehorse take on the U.S drug scene?? Would you want your beloved horse to race on anti bleeding medication or to not feel pain when injured?? Pain is the bodies warning system! The U.S. puts its Olympic athletes in jail if they take drugs(Marion Jones) but encourages its use in their thoroughbreds. We, in blighty, don`t want that! We want Frankel to live a long healthy life in retirement - red-rum-esque till he`s 30 at least !!!!!!!!!!!!!

One who knows horse racing wonders how much can he stay when in both the juddmonte and champion stakes it took the jockey another 2-3 furlongs to stop him after the finish line. In this Juddmonte, it looks to me that these 2 leading pacemakers are trying to help out SNA and Fahrr - both by setting a would-be "sapping" pace, and by taking the race to the right (i.e. longer) side of the home straight. All of which Frankel scoffs at. But my question -- are either of these 2 pacemakers owned or trained by the SNA/Farhh connections? Cheers
