Frankel is flawless in 2012 Juddmonte International Stakes

- An iconic performance in modern horse racing. Frankel makes it 13 wins from 13 starts on his first start stepped up to 10 furlongs, with a performance that those present on the Knavesmire will still talk about for years to come. Trainer Sir Henry Cecil, in his final months of a battle against cancer, said the win had made him feel "20 years better".
- Sport
Good lord....
Thank you Sir Henry for handling this beast the way you did, and RIP you genius. Never forgotten.
Goonerville Gonad Well said. 👏
Cecil said Frankel is the best horse he had ever SEEN, not just trained. Thats good enough for me.
Well, he is obviously very biased having had such an emotional connection to him. It´s like asking a Barca or Real Madrid player to choose between Messi and Ronaldo.
@@underscore2824 What does that have to do with Frankel?
@@bowlchamps37 but Frankel is Messi?
@@iang-lb7nx Yeah, I would say so. I would compare Frankel to Messi and Sea The Stars to Ronaldo.
And me
"Queally shakes the reins, the response is immediate." "This perfect mix of poetry and destruction". This guy can call a horse race. Starts calm and collected, revs his vocal chords with a few furlongs left, and reaches an absolute crescendo approaching the wire. A fitting call for a true Champion!
If you think this was good, listen to Ian Bartlett's commentary on Frankel's 2000 Guineas. He goes from surprise, to bemusement, to amazement, to awe, then respect and finally admiration.
Amazingly commentated! The best I heared was sea the stars l'arc de triomphe victory the commentary was unreal!
Mr Villan
Reins, not reigns!!
To me the ITV coverage on the race had the greatest line of horse racing commentary ever: "...And they can't get him off the bridle".
We are unlikely to see another like Frankel, he is a freak of nature and a TRUE legend. In the Juddmonte he made very good horses look like class 6 no-hopers. He was trotting at the 3F marker and just cruised past them like he was in a training gallop. The reason why this horse is a legend is because of his consistency and truly staggering method oh his victories. No one has ever seen a horse do what he did in the 2000 Guineas. Genius horse, genius trainer...breathtaking!!!

I knew that the first time I watched the Guineas.
For me, this is Frankel's best performance. This was the race where the great Brigadier Gerard met his one and only defeat in 18 races. Frankel was racing at just over a mile and a quarter for the first time, going left handed for the first and only time, and still he beat top class Group 1 middle distance horses with contemptuous ease.

We are all fortunate to have witnessed the greatest racehorse ever.I honestly dont believe we'll ever see one of his likes again.

You never seen Winx?
Introducing Enable
@Robert, yes I have, many times. Wouldn’t even beat St Nicholas Abbey. She was only rated around 130, doesn’t even register on all time great lists and very rightly so
I've been racing for 50 years ..this horse is an equine freak ..pure 100% poetry in motion ..a joy to watch ..never ever in my lifetime be another like him..maybe a projeny of frankl himself ..who knows but all I do know this is is the best racehorse ever

@@russe19642 Yeah but Europe breeds these middle distance horses and Australia nowhere else can compete right now. But Frankel could turn out to be the most successful sire in the history of racing. He’s already the most successful at this stage of his stud life.
Rip sir henry, I was here on that day of frankels last run, without doubt the greatest of all time, speed, control, class, power, and quealy a true craftsman. The greatest racehorse in the world, and without doubt the greatest 'gentleman' in racing sir henry. Never forgotten, never replaced, god bless you sir henry, a true gent.
How can Frankel be "the greatest racehorse in the world" when his connections didnt even consider him for The Derby or The Arc?
@@slide_drexler if he’s not going to stay the trip what’s the point? The distance of the race means nothing when taking about ability
@@SuperBuster3000 the great athletes became great by winning something that is very prestigious. In Thoroughbred Horse Racing, The Derby and The Arc are the two most prestigious and coveted prizes a Thoroughbred Race Horse connections aim for. Frankel was one of the best Milers ever but he is not "The Greatest Ever" as proclaimed by his worshippers.
I was there that day.....he'd have won an Arc and a Derby, he was that good. There'll never be another like him.
The extra 2 furlongs wouldn't have stopped him. He was going away here it was visible on course
Enable would have battered Frankel in the Arc and I fucking adore Frankel. He wasn’t making 1 mile 4 easily.
Yes I know Enable is slightly after Frankel but still, keep in your lane I say!
@@lordfarquard9902 they said he was vulnerable over 1m2 that day and it wasnt fast ground as there had been a lot of rain that week. I think he would have made 1m4 easy, he needed a pace maker over a mile because he wanted to stretch other's stamina. It's all opinions and ours differ
@@jeanlawley6483 I can’t believe Frankel doesn’t have a time track record. Blows my mind. Winx has every track record imaginable and yet Frankel is still considered. Secretariats records still stand 50 years later.
Frankel has 0 records.
We have never seen or will ever see a horse destroy group 1 performer after group 1 performer in such effortless fashion as frankel. 2 years on and this is just as breathtaking.
Just a few years later we have Winx destroying those great legends of the turf, Hartnell, Happy Clapper, Humidor, Folkswood, Criterion, Gailo Chop, Blackheart Bart, Success Days... The list goes on.
In this race the class acts were St Nicholas, and Faarh challenging Frankel. St.Nicholas was a superstar, cantering but overtaken by the mighty Frankel
Farhhhhhh
This would have been a very decent Juddmonte without Frankel in the race, two rock solid G1 horses in St Nicholas Abbey and Farhh, pulling well clear of Twice Over. The fact that Frankel cantered all over them like they were selling platers and then just breezed away from them hands and heels is quite remarkable. This is not a normal animal, a true freak of nature, the biggest freak probably since Secretariat.
Well said, perfect summary!
On that evidence I'm sure he would of stayed a mile and a half
@@rsb7311 as a 4 year old his temperament was different, he would’ve won an Arc at 4 I’ve absolutely no doubt about it, I just don’t think he would’ve got the trip as a 3 year old.

(this poster's father) ; I was there that day, was the second time ( after the previouis season's champions day) that i saw him in the flesh, and it was the most gob-smacking performance ive ever seen in my life. Standing atop the county stand with thousands of other genuine racing enthusiasts, to a man the hair stood up on the backs of our necks, and our jaws dropped as one. I'll never forget that day. Thank you York, and thank you to the patrons of York Racecourse. The Ascot of the north? I think Ascot could do no worse than tout itself as the York of the south.
Me too. My home town racecourse, still got the 'Go Frankel' paddle. The atmosphere at the races that day was amazing. Remember it as if it was yesterday.
I was there I could of been stood next to you. I remember that time stood still and everything that mattered in my life mattered little. Afterwards I remember thinking that I was there and that’s all that mattered. I was always meant to be in that stand that day. I can always say I saw the greatest horse ever

Congratulations to the mighty Frankel on the victory of his son ; Cuncu who won cosily at Newbury ! That is 1/1 for the greatest racehorse of the modern era ! It is impossible to know how good the form is but it is, at least, comforting to see that the winner of this particular race last year was the classy King Of Rooks.
I was there, took my son and my dad. When I’m in the ground my boy will be able to tell his kids that 3 generations of us saw something special.
Dancing Braves performance in the Arc was probably the most breath taking middle distance performance in the history of turf racing. The cameras were focused on Bering and a flash of equine brilliance just came into view and shot past. But being a believer he was the best horse over the last thirty odd years i cannot envisage a greater example of perfection than that shown by Frankel not once but twice. First in the Guiness and then in the Queen Anne. Jaw dropping. We have been blessed .
Based on what st nic & farhh accomplished , his accomplishments in the mile races Frankel deserves his best in the world rating.
+fadzil Ayub Well said Fadzil ! The late great St Nick, Farhh , Excelebration, Canford Cliffs, Nathaniel(on debut) and ,of course , the mighty Cirrus Des Aigles too ! Record winning margins , record starting prices ,14 races and 14 times fav (13 at odds on) , and 14 victories !
0.6 seconds inside standard without breaking sweat and seven lengths ahead of truly wonderful horse Farrh and a wide margin Breeders Cup World Champ; St Nick! A truly great racehorse !

Did he break the track and race record?
@@russe19642 Yes, his Queen Anne time was the best ever seen at Ascot over a mile. It would have been even faster on firm ground but the fans of U.K. horseracing, and the authorities, do not want to see firm ground. That is why we water.
Watching frankel do what he did to St Nicholas abbey was simply breathtaking I'm 30 years old and ready know I won't ever see another like him again!
brings tears to my eyes . enough said.
you know when you see a special horse and he was just the best ever.
This is still frankels most impressive performance the way he destroyed Faahh and. St nic was unbelievable he made them look like group 3 horses,, when frankel retired I backed Faahh in every race the following season and he never let me down it just goes to show how good frankel was
Wayne Evans I totally disagree. He made them look like Group 1 horses.
It is simple. He is just so much better than really good group one horses :-)
+Robert Hartley he ran faster and ten times more convincing than Golden horn at the same race
and its a shame he never got a crack at 12 furlongs.
What a joy--I watch these replays when I need a lift.
Following on from Frankel`s first 2yo winner on Friday, Hugo Palmer has a colt ; MAJORIS who is working beautifully and will be ready to run very soon - possibly Newbury next week. He has a big white face and his likely target is the Chesham at Royal Ascot later. What excites me about this particular colt is that his mother has delivered the blood of mighty Miesque ! The best mare I have ever seen ! This year is going to be great !!
Had the pleasure of meeting Frankel when he was still racing. He's extraordinary. He's a horse with an amazing personality. He is very aware of who he is and what he does. I can only compare him to Ali. A mix of confidence with ability and a certain amount of justified arrogance, yet surprisingly friendly. You don't normally get too close to these stallions, but he had a very nice nature about him.
His body language (which is the main form of communication for horses) is a case study for any expert. Very talkative, very dominant. An incredibly intelligent horse and I'm glad to say a very happy and content horse.
The greatest performance seen on a racecourse...? Only a handful can be compared to this.. Ribot's Arc.. Sea Birds Arc and Derby.. Secretariat's Derby and Belmont.. The form of this race was unbelievable.. No horse cruises past Farhh (Timeform 133) and St Nicholas Abbey (Timeform130) like that - they where champions.. The scary thing about Frankel is we may never have seen the best of him - he beat Farhh by a length further over 10.5f, than a mile - and with extraordinary ease - you can only imagine how incredible he'd be over 12f - He may have been the first horse to break 150+ with Timeform.
Frankel was a super horse, a champion, but I doubt his opposition at a mile. I'll debate best ever all day long but he can only race who's put in front of him so I having nothing but admiration for Frankel. Excelebration was vastly overrated by Timeform. One should never quote Timeform's ratings with any degree of certainty. Farhh 133 ? Seriously ? So You Think gave him a hiding doing far more work in the run a cruising through the line.. Battaash given the same rating as the career unbeaten 15 times Group 1 winner Black Caviar lol lol. Battaash has won a single Group 1 and has been beaten 3 of his last 5. Must be some all time great sprinters in Europe if Black Caviar's equal is getting regularly beaten. Funny how Australian 3yo Merchant Navy goes there and beats them both times he runs and July Cup winner U S Navy Flag goes to Australia and is thrashed in all 3 races he runs in. Oh yeah but Timeform just say he didn't run his best and Merchant Navy magically found 3 or 4 lengths......
I agree, probably the greatest performance ever. To cruise past and destroy such classy horses, is just scary.
@AnotherFasnet70 The simple fact is that every handicapping or rating bodies around the world, have Frankel their highest rated flat racehorse in their history. TF has Frankel 147. Every horse that had a TF of 140 or above only achieved it once in their racing career Here's Frankel's last TF ratings Judd Down. 140: 142:136:147:144:143:140. The IFHA World rankings is the same Every horse that was rated 135 and above did that only once. Frankel's ran 135+ 6 times including 2 140's The horses he beat back up that form.
Great commentary to go with an awesome performance!
Who's the RACE CALLER ? Sounds a bit like SIMON HOLT , but I'm not 100 % sure it's him
It just doesn't get any better than this I remember watching it live in the gym of all places, I miss Frankel this is his best performance in my opinion he's the best horse to ever grace a racetrack.
100% agreed. Best performance. St nic and Faarh made to look very average when they weren't at all. My favourite frankel performance.
The greatest
Frankel is probably the best thoroughbred we have ever seen.in the UK bar none - Secretariat probably the best in the USA. Black Caviar is a sprinter and would never ever get competitive over 7f or 8f against these - she would struggle against Dayjur and a few others
ed kaley And either of the Powers Sole or Slade.
ed kaley You could argue that Frankel's the greatest racehorse the world has ever seen. He's certainly the most valuable stallion ever.
Sloth from The Goonies Strictly speaking, that is only true because of Frankel`s age. I doubt he would cost more than Galileo or Dubawi but both of those are only available privately or by prior agreement with the owners. Frankel ,unfortunately, is highly unlikely to ever produce one as good as himself because so called "superhorses" never do.

I was there. I was stood on the rail near the finish. It was a memorable day. The swagger of the horse as he hit the front and breezed home, it was a delight to watch. I've seen Sea The Stars and Frankel in the flesh, but Frankel bosses the comparison. What a brilliant horse.
Really? I hold Sea The Stars in higher regard after his Arc win. Both wonderful top top animals.
That wanker has gone quiet since Sea The Stars won the Derby with his son ;Harzand . Strange that all the critics suggest these great horses are not very good and then their sons and daughters do the same. An Oaks winner, a Derby winner and the best German Derby winner of the decade from three seasons for STS and well done to him !
RIP Sir Henry Cecil. A master trainer and a total genius when it came to training fillies as his record shows. A sad loss for British Racing, Probably one of the last great gentleman of the sport and it seems he held on long enough to see the career of his greatest ever work Frankel. What a story...
Toughest test at odds of 1/10
this horse has won more race than he been whip in his career
Frankel had the best of both worlds - born genius AND brilliant training - physical, behavioral and tactical.... incidentally my favourite Frankel CZcams video is a 30-second hand-held video by some Yorkshire geezer at the side of the course here in York. Enter "FRANKEL!!! 13 out of 13 wins"... it really conveys a sense of Frankel's astonishing superiority and raw power, and the jaw-dropping effect this Beast had on the crowds lucky enough to see him at first hand...
Lucky enough to have seen it, York is my home town. A memory and a day I will never forget.
You can compare all the American, European and Australian horses to the mighty Frankel but in the modern era did anyone of the horses you compare him to absolutely destroy everything from 6f to 1m 2f he faced for 3 yrs running without defeat . Respect to black caviar but it was nearly always the same distance against a lot of the same horses
***** You've done what everyone does when comparing a horse to Frankel, you remember the great runs but then make excuses for the bad ones. Heres another reason why he was the best, because he didn't need excuses he NEVER lost.
***** Frankel would have annihilated Secretariat over a mile or ten furlongs. Can't be sure about 12 furlongs as Frankel never ran over the distance. In a perfect world, Sec would have gone to Europe in 1974 and won the King George and the Arc, thus proving his greatness. Ah well...
***** btw I don't buy the excuses. If Sec was unfit or sick why the f*ck did they run him? He was one of the best horses ever, but he had some off days. No problem with that,
***** Put that in your pipe and smoke it. Frankel = class
***** Pure class a world beater, not much you can say, I know, your speechless.
In my opinion Frankel will always be the greatest racehorse of all time, and Henry Cecil was an absolute maestro with his training skills.
This was a momumental year for Frankel.Farrh won two group ones and he and Cirrus Des Aigles, the only two in the field who Frankel had beaten, dominated the Champion Stakes from an Epsom Derby winner. Then last weekend,Side Glance, who Frankel beat eleven lengths won his first Group One.The jigsaw is now complete!
Wavepattern, the more you tell us about yourself the more we love you....today we learn that not only are you wealthy, a respected international ratings expert, the owner of a lucrative business, the author of numerous books and in negotiations for your own TV show... on top of all that you are also a magnificent lover!
best flat horse ever by a mile
apart from brigadier gerard
I have been racing for getting on for sixty years and for most of that time a pro punter I have seen all the great horses run in that time and I can tell you Frankel is the best I have seen the only other horse that I could compare with him was Sea Bird.
+Kate Wild Indeed, and from a more global perspective the greatest horse since Secretariat.
+Kate Wild well said Kate for a frank clear appraisal ! He was very very special ! All he needs to do now is produce one like himself and we can relive those times. David Ashforth has written about the subject and stated that super horses never produce super horses so we must live in hope !
I would also like to mention Vaguely Noble and Busted.
+postcardterry Man O War produced War Admiral - both super horses.
Don`t confuse "great horse" with "superhorse" ! He meant horses regarded as well above the average top class horse. All horses are super/great in the opinion of many observers. Superhorse is quite different !
Frankel ,Secretariat, Shergar and Arazi are the ones that we hear repeatedly in England, and before the modern era ;Ribot and Sea Bird II.
Secretariat certainly was not a superhorse because he got beaten far too often! Arazi is similar to Secretariat in that he did something extraordinary at Breeders Cup once. None have improved their reputations at stud although poor Shergar was executed by the IRA ,but did produce a lovely filly ;Maysoon, in his first crop of 3year olds ,and she was placed in 1,000 Guineas.
I don`t know enough about the two you have mentioned but with solid English pedigrees dating back to great Derby winners such as St Simon(1883) in England, it is possible. However, American racing is too much about blinds, blinkers and Lasix to be taken seriously ! It is also not that good at winning Breeders Cup races where again this year, we saw Europeans dominate the BC Turf. The death of Barbaro at three was a devastating blow for America because he did have the makings of a superstar as American Pharoah is ! Ban Lasix and you will be taken more seriously !
I've seen good horses over the years but none come close to frankel he was a monster he'd already be 2 lengths clear before he was even asked to go ... without a doubt the GOAT
Hi,You talk about sectionals but Frankel could not be blamed even if the sectionals were bad because he was held up!He won this race, beating two very very good horses easily and he wasn't finished. After the race he was still headstrong and had not reached his maximum. His time at Ascot in 2012 was simply amazing and he is the yardstick.
Frankel would have destroyed Drosselmeyer and Fort Larnered on breeders cup day if..Woulda been a Great race if he came 2010 to face Blame Zenyatta and AMerican Pharoahs daddy Looking At Lucky..
Racing getting good with these New babies coming up!!!!
Silvia Mendoza , Assuming he would've handled the switch from turf to conventional dirt? Some horses handle the switch without issue, but some horses who've raced exclusively on turf end up just spinning their wheels once they try racing on conventional dirt. A great example of that was Fame and Glory in the Breeders Cup Marathon. On paper, the best horse in the race by a street, but ended up as a DNF that day racing on conventional dirt. That being said, had Frankel raced in the Classic and had no issues with the surface switch I don't see the outcome having been anything much more than a foregone conclusion.
+GBeret83 And why would Henry Cecil have ever thought about the Breeder`s Cup or dirt??? He cared about his horses so much that a trip to America was a non starter! Furthermore why should Britain`s greatest racehorse take on the U.S drug scene?? Would you want your beloved horse to race on anti bleeding medication or to not feel pain when injured?? Pain is the bodies warning system! The U.S. puts its Olympic athletes in jail if they take drugs(Marion Jones) but encourages its use in their thoroughbreds. We, in blighty, don`t want that! We want Frankel to live a long healthy life in retirement - red-rum-esque till he`s 30 at least !!!!!!!!!!!!!
My favourite Frankel performance. Just awesome.
'The undisputed champion of the world ' Brilliant commentary .
I still love watching this race. To go past a 128 and 130 rated horse on the bridle and begin to extend away is amazing. Farhhs 128 is legitimate, SYT was a 132 rater, Farhh was approx 2 lengths inferior = 128. Excelebration is now a 135 rated horse, and again Frankel left him on the bridle. Incredible.
still takes the breath away, simply the BEST.
He look like he had joined the race at the three pole, amazing performance by a terrific horse, for me in the top 3 best performance in a middle distance race of all time

@MrWTF74 Like I said which racing authority rates BC higher than Frankel?
And by the way, my affiliation with UK is that it introduced me to horse racing couple of years ago and since then horse racing brings my main income, be it in UK, France or big races in Dubai.
Frankel is incredible to watch and by studying the form from the past 10 years.I can tell you its unique. Experts from old day say Frankel is unique in the past 50 years so you draw your own conclusion, but in your particular case only after you have done your brain scan :-))))
I think you're wrong, he was the greatest over 7f and 10.5f but one who knows horse racing wonders how many top class sprinters could've hold up with his prolonged fast pace and then the burst of acceleration ? One who knows horse racing wonders how much can he stay when in both the juddmonte and champion stakes it took the jockey another 2-3 furlongs to stop him after the finish line. The word for him is unexposed and its simply remarkable to leave the scene like that. Greatest of them all!
Great commentary, even greater Frankel
Still can't believe he just cruised past St Nic and Farhh on the bridle. This should be allowed lol, how's that even possible. That moment had me convinced he's indeed simply the greatest. Breathtaking!

Protarget, if you are around can you help me out on something? In this Juddmonte, it looks to me that these 2 leading pacemakers are trying to help out SNA and Fahrr - both by setting a would-be "sapping" pace, and by taking the race to the right (i.e. longer) side of the home straight. All of which Frankel scoffs at. But my question -- are either of these 2 pacemakers owned or trained by the SNA/Farhh connections? Cheers
this is the best race horse ever in this earth period no question ask frankel I don't care others opinion
The Greatest. A lightning strike of genetics. Will we see his like again in our lifetime? History would suggest not. I hope so.
Its way a joy to see BC back to her best. She has recorded the fastest speed ever for a thoroughbred. 44.84mph. Every proper racing fan wants see her race in the UK again. She would get the same reception at RA as Frankel did in the champ. PM would have learned alot what went wrong last year. This time we will see the real BC,. Then PM and everyone can say the exact same of BC as he did with with Frankel on that Tues at RA ;-)
Maybe a visit to see frankel could be on the cards as well

Going under 10 for a furlong is shifting, but very different turf conditions and types of tracks. Flat aussie courses and underlating ones over here. Great to see both these brilliant champions retire unbeaten. Which was the best. They both were.
This is the tip I gave last week ,five hours before the wonderful young lady rider won on two of her three rides @12s and 5/2. It is on the DON POLI LEXUS PAGE.RACHAEL BLACKMORECongratulations to the wonderful Finny Maguire who was victorious on Miss Eyecatcher yesterday. She won at 14s, paid 20s on the tote and was available all afternoon at 33s.I would like to add the brilliant Rachael Blackmore to my list of jocks to follow. Rachael is a wonderful horsewoman, has tactical nous and is getting a massive seven pound claim ! Even better, the misogynists out there won`t bet women jocks so it is quite possible to get a bigger sp. Her short career of rides has produced excellent profits and long may it continue.
what a creature. RIP Sir Henry
he was hit once last season mate. He had a few flicks to keep him straight but was physically struck with the whip once, in the Champion stakes.
But I don't want to sound disparaging about Frankel. I was incredibly nervous about his final 2 races and almost couldn't bear to watch. Among all the great sporting dramas of 2012, Frankel's last two wins were the moments that gave me the most personal happiness, and I will never forget them... the Champion Stakes was pure heroism; but this Juddmonte was a thrilling exposition of genius...
for the best racehorse in living memory but Frankel is irreproachable, unbeaten, decisive, explosive,no excuses required, undisputed champion of the world
Why did you buy the book Profag???
Andre Fabre has been around decades. If you watch aussie racing Peter Moody picks up group one wins on numerous occasions with different horses. A talented trainer.
The perfect mix of poetry and destruction!.....
