I just got this laptop in the gray color and I can confirm that the lighting IS in fact RGB, not just white, and the AI noise canceling is actually pretty good, as is the microphone.

This laptop is legit perfect for anyone who needs a high powered laptop such as engineering majors. You finally won't have to decide between getting a regular high-spec laptop, or a painfully embarrassing over-the-top RGB gaming laptop. This laptop hits the balance between the two of them perfect, along with incredible performance.
I adore mine - GA503Q - and really glad I can turn all the RGB shit off.
I plug in a mirrorless for video conferencing on a dongle HDMI to USB-C connection, and the AI mics are brilliant.
Dolby DTS and frankly superb speakers for afterhours movies. There is a bit of light bleed in dark environments though.
144hz monitor and 3080 for Forza Horizon and Flight sim.
Portable Powerhouse for dragging around on my AutoCAD, Revit and Fusion Freelancing. I was plugging in a 27" monitor but have now adapted to just the 15.6 with an iPad as a separate document reference display.
Only ever had software crash, not windows.
Bought Feb 2022 for £1500 - Absolute bargain and a banging laptop.
Upgraded to 2 x 4tb nvme, mmm, all the privateered stuff!

I have the g15 with the 3070 as my daily laptop, and it does have an rgb keyboard as well as the solid white. I use solid white in class because obviously rgb gets distracting while taking notes, and while I don’t game on it consistently because I have a desktop, it’s nice to be able to game when I’m not home on the laptop. All the function keys to me make sense, and I use most of them every day, however play pause skip would be nice, but for the performance I get, I don’t need it lol
It is different between G15 models. Some G15's have RGB, some doesn't. Mine doesn't have RGB at all for example. You need to check when buying

Owned one. For the love of god don't buy it! It's packed with awesome hardware, but it all comes at a cost. This laptop runs super hot and the exhaust ports blow right on the screen. My monitor went out after 3 months of use due to the hot temp blowing directly on the monitor.

The G15 thermals (average 70C)are extremely impressive, most laptops hover around 80C-100C with the average game at 1080 High Settings like COD MW/COD COD Cold War, SOTTR, Far Cry 5, that range of AAA Titles.
Found one nearby for $1540, I haven't owned a pc or laptop with modern specs before. Super stoked for this!

Great video! However, something I wish reviewers would take into mind - if you're stuck on Windows. I have the G14 and I'm not a fan of Windows at all, and with proton gaming on linux is very viable, but after spending multiple hours trying to get linux on here, I came to the same consensus as everyone else - the hardware just isn't well supported, especially with AMD's hybrid-open source drivers.
Managed to get the g15 with the 3070 last weekend in a trade for my old (to me) desktop. I’ve only played some MW2 on it but it runs like a champ. I did get it to shut down though with settings cranked to max while hooked up to my 4k tv. Running it on recommended settings was fine though.

I would like to say thankyou Linus! I'll be receiving my g15 on 6-11-21. If not for your reviews (and others) I might of got something different that I might of really regretted. Btw, I took your advice and got the 3070 instead of the 3080 to save some serious money, and bestbuy have been sold out of the 3080 version for months. For anyone else looking at these laptops, bestbuy had the 3070 series in every 4-5 days if sold out, so just wait.

I have the OG Asus G14 for about a year now and it's a beast.
A true marvel of laptop engineering, which stands as a foundation for future laptops to come.
It has its issues of course, but as a whole - it's amazing.

SAME I bought an open box version & saved a couple hundred bucks and the performance has been fantastic: never thought I'd buy a decent laptop from Best Buy that was a good value for the price but non-stop hunting through 2020 and 2021 definitely paid off with this laptop!

I have last year's model with a 2060 and a ryzen 9 that I bought for gaming on the road.
Being my first laptop I was worried but it plays everything I play on my desktop. Can't recommend enough.
The flip top screen extends at the bottom to make the keyboard tip stand, but scratches the bottom rear of the monitor frame.

I have the G14 and it’s been great, easily hooks up to an external monitor for gaming. It was the perfect small but powerful laptop for me to be able to have a dual purpose work / gaming space in my house.

I have an old rog Asus with an 850m gpu that I bought second hand years ago. Still kicking strong. 2020 MSI leopard? Died after 3 months of light use with infrequent gaming, non gpu intensive stuff. Just refused to turn on one day, not saying anything bad about MSI they make long living things too, but Asus has my heart.
I have one a g15. Works amazingly. Haven’t had a game yet that it can’t run. I’m a big mmo player for the most part. I even stream VR to discord/twitch without any lagging AND on high specs.

I got the G14 which is very similar in performance. It's an incredible laptop, I am blown away. The white keyboard does kinda suck despite looking so good. It's hard to see the keys with a white screen reflecting down

@@haha5809 not to to the point that it throttled or shut down but got uncomfortably warm bordering on hot to the touch even over the keyboard. And was loud like a jet. I ended up returning it and got an Omen 15. Much happier with this PC.

I get that 3070 is fine for laptop gaming screen resolutions (for now), but some of us living in small living spaces want a 3080 to dock to our 4K TVs since we don't have space for a standard desktop pc.
Zero compromise laptop, except the 1 soldered RAM stick and lack of webcam.
As I'm watching the Laptop Brand now, I'm really impressed to see, the Improvements at Laptops in the Last five years. The Zephyrus as a high power gaming laptop is thinner than my normal HP Pavilion 15 Inch Laptop from 2015 which just has a Core i5 6200U and a GT 940M.

Me watching this on my hp pavilion 15 core i5 5200U GeForce 940M waiting for Zephyrus G15 2022 that i just ordered.
I've got an MSI GS73VR with a 1070, still handles most games perfectly fine, but man, am I regretting getting a 17 inch laptop. While it's thin and lightweight, I can't fit it into any of my laptop bags including the ones that say they fit 17 inch laptops, not to mention it's too big to pull out and game on without having a desk. So this laptop is definitely on my list, as I like to travel, and I don't like being bound to a desk.
Update, I purchased this laptop like a day after posting the original comment, and I've had it for about a week now. It is awesome! Games where I'd get 30fps on medium 1080p settings, I'm getting 60+on ultra 1440p, and it actually fits on portable lap pads lol.

There are aftermarket RGB keyboards available for the ASUS line of laptop. That's why the FN has an RGB Hotkey, though it's just white.
Or. They didn't want you to criticize the RGB part of the laptop in your review video.

Hey man like your videos just letting you know I got a G15 last week from BestBuy with the RTX3070. After I did all the windows updates/bios updates it would get stuck on a black screen and the activity light would also stay on. The only way to fix this was removing the battery (what a pain) I tried trouble shooting it but no fix. After taking it back to bestbuy the geek squad guy told me it would take a month to fix. So I had to return it and now I’m waiting for it to come back in stock. ):

I bought myself the mid range g14 rog zephyrus about 4 months ago and with a tutorial video or two on youtube to get the temps down a bit, it's a casual gamers dream. Comes in the grey colour as well which gets rid of the keyboard light issues. Absolute performance beast!
how are the temps in gaming and fan noise?
@@DanishJaved Fan noise does get quite loud, so it can definitely be distracting, but, they do get the job done and always keep temperatures at the mid 70°C on the heaviest workloads. I've also bought myself an external fan which drops things down another 5°C or so, which I would recommend.

Linus should collaborate with tong fang or clevvo to build the “perfect” gaming laptop. I’m sure they’d have a blast doing it and a whole lot of people who watch his videos would be interested in buying it. If they could somehow make a budget powerhouse laptop, they’d be raking in the cash.

I have the Best Buy version of this machine and got it on sale at $1500. It is an absolute beast in comparison to what I was using. Absolutely worth the money spent.
When did it go on sale for only 1500?! Thats a steal considering the specs on this monster!!!! I went to bestbuy yesterday bc I was leaning towards a G14 bc they were on sale for 1249 with a 3060GPU however when I laid eyes on the G15 I was hooked but the 1849 price tag was too high to buy it now...Hoping they go back on sale for 1500 bc thats actually the highest I want to go!
Hi Linus can you do some builds for DJs. So there are 2 types one a desktop for music production, this needs loads of memory and storage and of course amazing audio. It will also need plenty of ports for midi controllers. The second would be a laptop for DJing on it would need to run the DJ software (Rekordbox or Traktor) also could be running OBS for streaming and also a radio streamer like BUTT together. It could also be running Beatport LINK so pulling tunes from them to play, linking out to a DJ controller and in from a soundcard from the controller to broadcast the music also need a lot of storage for your tunes look forward what you come up with :)

Ok, using it right now... Other than having to deal with stupid windows (been on Macs for the last 12 years other than my gaming rig) it's pretty sweet. Haven't tried any serious gaming on it, and what little gaming I did do did get the fans going pretty fast, but tolerable. Overall the machine is snappy, lightweight, nice display, good keyboard. I did have to fiddle with the settings a bit to get it to sleep properly (I ended up just switching it to hibernate). Only real gripes are that it's constantly alerting me on battery power that apps are hitting the GPU (power draw).. You can set it to use the built in AMD graphics while on battery to conserve. I just wish some of the controls in windows and the Asus software were a bit more straightforward for setting all this stuff up into a couple profiles that you could easily switch between. I'm still learning their Armoury Crate software, so maybe I just need to dig further on that to set up what I want.
I do like that it has a setting for battery use where you can tell it how you usually use the machine (plugged in most of the time, unplugged most of the time, max battery longevity (lifetime). That last one will actually only charge the battery up to like 80% so it doesn't force too many full charge cycles lowering lifespan of the pack. The others will change the charging profile to optimize it for that use case.
Overall I'm pretty happy. I need to pop the bottom off so I can install a second M.2 that I bought for it...

@@aa666aa Yeah so if you have issues with the speaker when you get it, go into the sound settings and change the equalizer and that fixes it supposedly (saw that in a video review... a lot of people complain about this and return it but it's a simple software driver issue that gets fixed with latest driver and equalizer change). If you have issues with getting it to sleep properly, change the settings in windows for what to do when the lid closes. Save it and then set it back to sleep mode and save the setting again.. .That should resolve the issue (no clue why it happens, but happened to me, changing it to hibernate fixed it for me... first time I put it in my bag before making the change, I pulled it out and it was pretty warm,, and the battery was drained a bunch from when I put it in). No issues anymore now...

That weird half-soldered RAM is a deal breaker for me. Imagine having a failing "stick" on the motherboard and your laptop constantly crashes because it's writing to bad addresses. You then go to replace it and turns out it's soldered on.

@@davidsobrito2790 Not really a laptop shop near my home does resoldering of both cpu and gpu but that's one chip each and ram is like a lot of them so you'll just have to pay more.

Would be great if they had quality control. Went through two of these, one had speaker issues. Other had speaker and USB issues. Two strikes and I got a lenovo. Works perfect.
That was the same case with me, but with Acer Nitro V, first blunder was on me, my laptop's battery died while the BIOS was updating, but the second blunder was with the keyboard being defective, with some keys stopped working and eventually hit the power button. Got a Lenovo afterwards.
