This guitar was built only using spare parts from Lomic's guitar shop. Here's the full parts list:
- Squier Sonic Mustang: Torino Red body, Neck Single Coil Pickup, Control Plate
- Squier Bullet Mustang: Neck, Bridge Humbucker
- Squier Tuneomatic Bridge
- Switchcraft Mustang Switches
- Generic Mustang Tremolo Assembly (springs removed and tailpiece locked down with hardware store screws)

Is this a safe space? Yes? Good, because I have a confession: I might like the Squier's tone better than the Fender's, at least for some songs. I definitely think the whole DIY approach to building it is way more Nirvana/punk rock. Cool guitar-almost as cool as the dude who made this video.

While I own a hodge podge 66 fender neck, and 77ish body and electronics, there is nothing wrong with a properly modded Squier. The fender just feels alot heavier. It's all preference.
@@NirvanaGuitarsif Kurt had access to modern squires for the price they’re charging, he’d probably use those more just to piss off the elitists lol.
@@NirvanaGuitars Kurt would probably have a bunch of Squiers if he was still alive. He'd probably enjoy some of the CVs but go for the Affinity and Sonic stuff.
Squier has started to grow on me over time. I used to fantasize about owning a real Fender in middle school, but then I kind of started to admire the image of Squier as a sort of everyman's guitar. It's making a statement like "I don't really care what you think of me" sort of vibe.
Amazing video. You’re literally a godsend for this stuff. I do have one small correction. Nirvana’s last TV performance actually was on February 23 1994 on “Tunnel” in Rome Italy. They played “Serve the Servants” and “Dumb”

I fell in love with my Squire Bullet Mustangs Bridge humbucker tone. I bought the guitar with the expectation of needing to change the pickups but surprisingly never had to.
Same actually, it's been years since I got mine and ive only thought about changing the neck pickup. And that's only because I want a neck single coil lol

Absolutely awesome guitar!! I've built a Sky-Stang replica out of a Squier Bullet Mustang and it's to Fenders version. You can literally build any type of his Mustangs with Squiers. Even if you use Duncan pickups, the cost of the build is relatively inexpensive 2-4 hundred dollar price range. Kurt built his own, I'm sure he'd be smiling at us for paying homage to him!! Love your channel.

I really like how the two pickups sounded together and in phase. It gives the clarity and output from the bridge whilst thickening it up a bit. That said, I do prefer how Skystang sounds and think the pickups from that build would be worth putting into any Squier mod builds, should people be able to afford them. The JB is much more dynamic than the Bullet's pickup, as well as having what i think is a more pleasing midrange.
I hope Fender makes this configuration available as a standard Squier model, seeing as they still sell the dual single coil Mustang, dual humbucker Mustang and Classic Vibe 60s Mustang already. Make it a Vintage Modified or Paranormal series instrument or even a signature model
I just finished making one of these, putting a JB in the bridge. This guitar is amazing, and a great learning tool for anyone who wants to make their own parts guitar. 100/10 would recommend.

What the hell, I actually prefer the sound of the cheap Squier Bullet Mustang over the KC Mustang. Your Squier Bullet Mustang got pretty close to the sound of the original competition mustangs because they have amazingly light bodies. I am glad, that someone else though of this idea to rebuild Bullet Mustang to original vintage specs, because I wasn´t sure if it is good idea and now I see that I must do it myself. Nice video, again!!!
I love squires, I own two mustangs, one with Kurt mods and one vintage modified stock. I have owned fender mustangs and the squires sound and play just as good

I bought one secondhand in white, made a black MOP one piece pickgaurd and put the strat style jack on it. Seriously cool little guitar

serve the servants sounds so good on the squier
its interesting listening to you play through each song with both guitars, some songs work better on the squier and some work better on the fender! the real JB has a lot more mid and is more dynamic to my ear so songs like come as you are and serve the servants sound amazing, but the super heavy stuff like radio friendly unit shifter sounds super gnarly on the squier. cool vid!

I swear kurt is something else man, you have to be pretty special to make me want a roundback, especially a fender or Squier! I've always been a flyingV guy and if not, a simple explorer with a blue gradient, but I can't believe I'm sitting here thinking, I want to buy a cheap fender and make a nirvana guitar

Recently I saw a mustang at a local guitar shop, it was a squier classic vibe in sonic blue and it looks exactly like a skystang for about 590 Canadian, I impulse bought it and it sounds pretty good.

I have this squier sonic mustang, the blue one with 2 humbuckers and I'm planning on modding it. Your video is so helpful, thank you so much for it! I was unsure if it was possible to set up a bridge like that and now I'm definitely gonna do it. However, I have a question: it's impossible to install a vibrato tremolo on it, right?
I have a Squier Bullet Mustang and that thing rips. 150 bucks (I think $180 retail now).
I've been playing it more and more and am thinking about maybe not a K.C. clone but something in that spirit, taking a cheap "student"/pawn shop guitar and hot-rodding it out. Then using it as my main.
I love the neck more than anything I've ever played. It's so smooth. But the rest of it could use some work lol. Love your channel too!
Wow. I really could have used this video a month ago, lol. I literally just finished building an LBP cobain mustang from a bullet mustang using ALL the parts you just mentioned, took a lot of trial and error but a lot of fun! The red looks awesome.

I ask because as far I know Kurt's always had 250k pots since he didnt swap them out for the usual 500k pots when he added humbuckers.
Squire bullet mustangs are great, I’ve got a green competition stripe one with Duncan’s in it and coil split. Cost less than half my fender jag and plays as good once set up.

I found out last month in Yahoo Auction Japan one of the limited run 2011 FSR Squier Mustang Fiesta Red with Fender logo at the stop tailpiece. And I missed the bid....
Waiting the same guitar to reappear for the next auction...

Today, if I'm playin the guitar it's thanks to Kurt, I was listening to nirvana since 1991 and I was 9 years old, because my birthday is the 24th september like the Nevermind release.
I got Nevermind, and it was like my life was changing for real, my parents were divorcing and my life was completely fucked up, and Nevermind and Blood sugar sex magik gave me the escape I needed at that time. and later in 1994 when Kurt died in april, I watched my father's Fender MIJ 1986 black strat and I swore to kurt and to the universe that I would play the guitar like Kurt. And this is how my whole story began.
So I have something to share and to ask you. In reply to this great video.
As you made a KC mustang on a budget perfectly, is it possible to make a video about the greatest amps and pedals on a budget? Like using for example a Boss katana, or even if the Fender Champion 100 in a Twin reverb settings would do the job? Or even any amp on budget who can give and bring the Kurt Cobain kind of tone?
and of course demonstrating those amps with pedal like DS-1 / DS-2 / EHX Small CLone / Behringer TM300
I know it's maybe a hard thing to combine or t orealize but it would be really really helpful for anyone who wants to have his own journeyu starting point in Kurt's guitar tone.

Hopefully we get a Fender (or even better, a Squier) reissues the In Utero Mustangs for the 30th anniversary of In Utero. I haven't bought a new guitar in a very long time but I'd consider breaking that hiatus just to get one of those for

Ive had the bullet mustang and I liked modding it, but couldn't get alomg with the skinny neck. I currently own a classic vibe mustang and that is a GREAT guitar. It invites me to play Nirvana riffs all the time ❤

about budget KC guitars, heres me top 3 and the "ingredients"
1. the vandalism strat: squier sonic hss black, vandalism sticker, white pickup covers and a roseland neck (additional stuff: silver tape, fernandes sticker, you can also sand it a bit and silver tape it to make it look like the live in paramount one)
2. reading strat: squier affinity strat sunburst and seymour duncan hot rails
3. 1992 vmas strat: white squier sonic HT, roseland neck and hot rails seymour duncan pick up, and yeah its still more expensive than the vandalism strat even tho it has only 3 parts

We definitely have different pickup heights. The JB in my Jaguar is the absolute loudest and crunchiest pickup I have lol! But it's also pretty high up, I used my old pickups as reference and they were some medium output humbuckers
Accurate assessment. Pickup height is a HUGE factor in tone and that likely explains the difference you're noticing 👍
I've always been happy with the JB height on my Skystang but this makes me want to experiment and raise it!
I love the Squier Mustang so much, I just wished there was a left handed version available as I would buy it instantly if I had the money lol
The people that criticize Squier, well, Omar Rodriguez Lopez (At The Drive In and Mars Volta) played a Squier Supersonic for most of his time in ATDI, upside down because he is lefty too lol and he played and sounded amazing
About the pickups, it reminds me of Shaun Morgan from Seether because he also uses a "JB like pickup" (Duncan Designed) and it surprises me because that pickup is hot and has good cleans and distortion tones
