Can we get a durability review of the IK gear?
Thanks for that nice review. It's pleasant to watch and complete enough.
Literally just last night I found myself thinking "I could really use a cheap, portable drum machine" and then today you upload this. Thanks for reading my mind Bo!
Good review. I just ordered one from Thomann. From their photos I was able to see that these are manufactured in Italy. This has put a smile on my face.
Been waiting for you or some one i trust to drop a review on this unit!!
I bought this last week. I think it sounds great. I have been connecting the MIDI out from this to the MIDI in on my Drumbrute Impact (yet to try with the original Drumbrute), for the kick into the left channel of my interface (also using KT1176 compressor on the kick) and the rest into the 2nd channel on the 2 channel interface. This bypasses the single dual mono audio limitation that so many have complained about and allows me to have the same kick on channel 1, other percussion sounds on channel 2 combo that I normally have.
Thank you for the clear, informative session here. It helps a lot
Finally a proper review on CZcams ! Thank youuuu Bo 🙂
Did you know I have preset libraries for Circuit, Minilogue and Minilogue XD. Check them here: store.bobeats.tv
I LOVE DRUM MACHINES
Thanks as always for the great video, Bo!
Awesome thank you! Another item that has been Dancing in and out of my shopping cart. Still hoping to see the rd808.
Very cool! I enjoyed listening to all the drums and sounds!
Definitely looks // sounds like a really good Drum Machine!
Good Video as usual mr. Bo!
I plan on having the duo of Uno's. Thanks for the video.
Fantastic review by the way :)
I use the IK Multimedia Uno Synth. It's my first synthesiser so I have nothing to compare it with. I paid 209 Canadian dollars for it and it's very powerful. Has a very hot signal so I'm often playing with volume levels on my mixer. I love that it's portable and can accept midi in/out and has an AUX in and AUDIO out. I love it.
Just like I love this video and am going to be getting the Uno Drum soon as I am looking for a drum machine and don't have a large budget.
Great video.
I’ve watched a LOT of uno drum videos, this is the best!
Great review here. The IK website actually has a great demo of the preset sounds under the heading audio. Personally, I much prefer its sound to the Drumbrute which I messed around with a little bit ago. Could not get a satisfactory snare sound no matter how much I fiddled. I'm sure the UNO DRUM will get a firmware update that will allow you to load your own samples, I think they will sell a lot more with this feature available.
I love, I really love time chapters. hope to see you soon. keep ups with good work
Master of the Reviewing!!
Thanks for another great review. I know it’s old, but your channel is an ongoing resource. 😃
thanks for the review, love yr hair :D
It would be nice to see a jam session with the uno synth from you! I have the uno synth and I love it, I literally play with it in bed when I can’t sleep.
Excellent, was at Synth Expo Saturday and got to fool with it a bit as well as get a Demo by Derrick Floyd of IK Multimedia. Your video perfectly timed to sate my appetite while I await delivery of mine. Thanks Man
I tried one recently and loved it! Buying one as well.
Enjoy it’s fun on the go
Nice review, I especially like the improvements with the sequencer (over what the Uno Synth does). On that topic how well do the two pair together - can the Uno Drum sequence the Uno Synth and use all of it's 64 steps/song mode?
On the Uno Synth the sequences are stored within the presets (ie 1 per preset), and looking under the hood at the actual data in the 'unosyp' files it looks pretty flexible in the way it stores parameter changes/etc. I wonder whether a "Sample Swap" feature could be 'hacked' into an Uno Drum preset/sequence file.
Nice review. Would like some more info about usb audio interface, specifically if hooking up to a DAW does is the Audio split into different channels ?
Nice video man!
Great features! The sound of it falls a little flat in my opinion. Thank you for this review. I have been pretty curious about this piece of gear.
Great review! I like the playfulness but not totally into the overall sound. I recently bought the volca drum and I’m smitten, so much more than just a drum machine. I might go for this if and when the price drops and second hand hit eBay at bargain prices but at the retail price IK have pitched it up against some impressive competition.
Really good sit down with the instrument. I think it’s moved up a lot on my list.
Great review - as always Mr. Beats 🍮
I'm guessing there's no trig conditions but that you can clock it from midi or use it to clock other devices? Would have been nice to hear it playing with a mono synth through the imput - but there's only so much you can do in 30 mins eh? Maybe using the UNO DRUM in jam video is possible at some point? 🍓
Cheers Bo, nice review. Can I suggest the Korg Electribe2S as an alternative? £50 more but really rather good as a drum machine if you can live with the sequencer. Then you can have your own samples and virtual analogue synthesis thrown in to the mix, not perfect by any means but it gets under your skin, well mine anyway. :)

love the look of this, and portable is always great

Great review. Can you recommend a drum machine with Eastern/Indian percussion sounds and with a stereo output? Thanks.😊😊😊
Great overview and review as always. This looks like a fun machine, but the video helped me decide it's not for me.
About noise - I have an UNO Synth, and it was still a bit noisy with all the updates installed, especially when powered over USB. However, I bought a ground loop isolator (basically an audio cable with a transformer in the middle) and it completely cleaned up the signal. Not bad for a €15 investment.
did you have trouble with the battery compartment? I put new batteries in and it refused to power up.
Works fine on batteries here. Just to be sure, check that the batteries are fresh and correctly inserted. Also keep in mind that the power switch needs to be in the middle position to operate on batteries. If that still doesn't work, I'd contact IK, maybe you have a faulty unit...
@@JimmiG84 might be faulty. and I know that it supposed to be on the second position.
Not fussed on the sound! Great review as always maestro.
Still thinking about this along with my SKULPT. I have a Drumbrute Impact already...I kind of enjoy the sound of this with the limitations of one output, as I typically use an EQ on a single output rather than massaging my drums individually. And considering that my first 909 sounds were Emu Emax samples...12 bit doesn't scare me off...
You could do what I do, link it up to the Drumbrute Impact for the bass/kick drum via midi out on the Uno to midi in on the Arturia. I have made one track so far using this combination and recorded into a two track UR22 interface. One track is just the Kick from Drumbrute (triggered by the Uno) the other the rest of the sounds from the Uno Drum itself. All my other tracks use the same concept but entirely from one of either of my Drumbrutes. I actually thought the Drumbrute impact kick/ Uno analogue/pcm combo sounded better than either Drumbrute split this way on their own
@@PaulGBass cool idea! Still deciding if I need another drum machine right now...lol
@@asleep909 RIGHT?
thanks for the good review. I was wondering how you would compare it with the novation circuit? the circuit(which I have) seems easier to program and modulate.
Circuit is more powerful generally but less capable as a drum machine
How do you stay so calm with all the coffee? ; - ) Seems like a good machine overall, it appears there's no way to get notes faster than 16th. Bass kick sounds decent, what did you think of it vs others?
Great review. Does anyone know if IK sorted out the noise issue with subsequent firmware updates?
I assume I can MIDI sequence the Uno DRUM with my MPC. Please correct me if wrong
I was gonna get a drumbrute but this looks promising
This is exactly what i need
Did you get it? If yes, are you happy with it? I need a portable BAR and this is one seems really cool.
Can you audio in to this just to use the effects and send the audio signal back out like you can with a monotron delay?
Is it allready released? Shop in my town says pre order only...
I know this isn't the right place to ask for help on the UNO Drum, but...When I attach my new UNO drum to my Windows 10 PC with the included USB cable, the Editor just sits on "Waiting for UNO" with no response. I have tried several different MIDI settings in the Editor, including setting the MIDI input channel to 1 and the output to 10 or other channels. I've tried the setting the MIDI sync to USB; tried the Send PC and Receive PC to ON. Nothing makes the Editor recognize the UNO Drum. IK has not responded to two help requests. WHAT SETTINGS WORK ON THIS DEVICE?
The question is, can it be hacked and modified for individual outs?
You can never make things sound good to my personal taste. However I thumbs up for great reviews and content.
nice review. I like the sequencer, but it looks as if the pads leave something to be desired. Can you use an exterior group of pads to enter the drum sounds?
Like use the Akai PD218
Can it output a midi clock?
Hi bo! I actually wanted to tell you I haven’t seen any of your videos for a while because none appear on my recommended so I kept waiting, I had to come a see what were you up to and I don’t think I’m the only one seeing how a couple videos ago have more views :(
CZcams works in mysterious ways!
Nice vdo Sir...I wanted to know whether we can change the position of Kick..or cymbal...to any side according to our wish....i play kick on right side...can we change????
No panning
wheres the attack and release cut off ?
Review the Tazbar 2 ?
I am looking for an analog drum machine with built in effects and a mixer. Currently I am using a Analog Four to accomplish this task but was wondering if anyone knew of a drum machine that has these features.
Rytm?
excellent review can you review the Roland 909 boutique version? I cant get a decent explanation
Why do you need an explanation for it? It’s very straight forward.
Got mine today! Super fun, I really like it. My main criticism for now would be that the buttons don’t seem to trigger super consistently. I’ll hit it and sometimes it won’t register or react. It’s imprecise and a little bothersome but maybe something they can address in a firmware update?
I recommend it!
Yeah this is what I tried to describe in my pro and con section. Thanks for confirming I am not the only one
The UNO Drum is closer to the DrumBrute Impact than the Volcas, price-wise. If IK weren't going to (or couldn't) put individual outputs on it, maybe they could have made it true stereo with a Pan control per voice. That's one thing about the Volca Sample I appreciate over the other two Volcas (and the UNO). It's nice not having the entire drum kit dead center in the stereo field.
In roughly the same price range as the UNO and Impact, the Twisted Electrons Deton8 looks really fun, but it also lacks individual outputs and panning. If I were in the market for something better than my Volca Sample, I'd probably get a Tanzmaus. Too bad it's a rather large price jump.
1. Mono?
2. Can it send notes MIDI out? In other words can I program a patten on the Uno, take it home and play it through my Drumbrute?
Yes
Can you change the snare sound?
It's still over 500 dollars Australian which compares to the arturia drumbrute which ones better?
depends on you: Drumbrute=all analog, a bit more sound design capabilities, DEDICATED OUTPUTS... filter onboard BUT no parameter locking and first of all, incredible but true, its name is 'Drumbrute but no brute factor (i wrote to Arturia guys and told them they are retarded). Unodrum: hybrid analog/digi but for now no user sample load, NO dedicated outs, less sound design but more FXs and parameter locking Elektron style, lastly it is lighter than DBrute... In conclusion IMMO if in your country prices are almost the same, i'd go for the Brute...
you know you can sample the drum when you change the parameters as you go, just tap the button and twist the knobs at the same time
Cheapest place to buy at the moment is Thomann.de. I just had to buy Uno Drum to use with Uno Synth.
Is that pounding your favorite sound?
this dirty "uno drums" thru befaco crush delay would be awesome ^^
Oh my goodness your hair in the intro is gorgeous
I just cut it off 😱😱😱
sick!
Can each pattern be difrent bpm
The Uno is very nice. Tried it in person and it’s fun and intuitive. But, there’s something about the Drumbrute Impact that keeps drawing me towards it. It’s got the “it” factor that the Uno lacks, imo.
i prefer the impact too.
@@BoBeats and Elekton Rytm destroys them all :-)
@Haut Strange
Anderton's compares them:
czcams.com/video/jyIwC5sP-oM/video.html
Does it have an external speaker or do I need to hook it up to Monitors via audio cable?
You're right, you must connect the device to speakers or implement it in your music-devices-setup (at example with Midi). The device have no internal speakers. It has Line-IN & Line-OUT + USB Midi Interface.
It is about the cowbell!
As a CONS u forgot an important thing to mention: NO DEDICATED OUTPUTS, in a DM is a big shame...
And only mono output, so no way to pan drums in stereo...
This is true in the Cons section, but he mentions it at the end of the video when comparing to Drumbrute Impact
SjN7HETIK yeah i mention this but its not in the cons section because I don’t view it as such. I don’t expect to get this on a portable machine like this. But it would be a great feature for a version 2.
I was just about to jump on this, and then I saw this. Only mono out??
@@chrisliddiard725 I thought you were an expert on this machine? I've seen your 💩 comments to Stinking acting all high and mighty like you knew so much about this machine and also trash talking Telecom Beats. That was forever ago yet four months ago you didn't realize it's mono output. 😂
Some people just like being a prick I guess.
What about division? Can every track/instrument have its own division?
Really surprised how this hasn't been answered by any reviewer or in the manual. Being able to mix triplets and other subdivisions is a must for a drum machine for me
Another wonderful review! Did I miss poly rhythms? Is there a different number of steps option for each track? They did a great job on the interface, very fast programming. The price is helpful in getting your first beats. I already own an Electribe2 so this is not for me, the Electribes allow much greater control of the sounds which is very important because you will lose interest in a beat box very quickly if you can't get a wide variety of sounds. The DrumBrute has one enormous feature this doesn't, six outputs. Independent processing of drum sounds is a gigantic feature. With beat boxes the downfall of almost every one is they don't have; 1) independent outputs OR excellent pro effects for each track....2) Complete control over the sounds with filters, envelopes, pitch, and processing.
Yeah - dedicated controls for filters should be a no-brainer. It is a little too small in functions and in control.
Yeah the ability to do polyrhythms and change the division amount per track are essential on any drum machine to me
Was good to hear your pros/cons, especially responsiveness. I noticed some sounds being delayed, only seeming to be triggered when you released the pad, and I wasn't sure if it was an audio/video sync issue or the pads/interface design.
It's a shame they don't open up samples to be user changeable. Plocking samples would be neat, but changing the sample sounds is, I think, pretty important. ROMplers don't get much love anymore, and it could be good competition for the Elektron Sample.
When a drum machine gets cerebral..BoBeats.
It would be interesting if you could upload your own samples, hope it will come with future updates.
I think an UNO sampler could be an awesome product
Just picked one of these up for around $153.00 USD! Wooohooo!
How about nice auto beat ending(s) rather then stopping at once?
thanx for the overview !
sounds are a bit distorted in the video..
does nt sound very good in general.
more a toy machine like a real drummy
(also the in /outputs)
and why only battery and usb voltage....
only my 5 cents
Sounds distorted bc there’s a distortion onboard. Definitely not a toy and the reason for batteries is really obvious.
Hey Bo,
how cool it would be to see a UNO DRUM PRO X ?
Very!
Alguien me ayude como borrar escenas desde el equipo físico...
Did you figure it out?
The aethstetic of this drum machine is that of some shit you'd see in a doctor's office. Cool little peice of gear though. Good work as always Bo.
Looks like a great little drum machine with analogue and digital sounds, a song mode plus kits etc. also it looks like it's designed to hang onto a synth which is great for live use. one gripe though is that one single output seems an odd choice given that this will appeal to analogue/trad fans who prefer to work outside of computers.a separate out for bass n snare would've made it perfect:)
Would you say, the output signal is a bit too noisy?
not too noisy, not at all. Just not silent or quiet.
BoBeats that’s the answer I wanted to hear. Thanks for that. I hope they can fix it. Cheers
Noise kills this for me. I am still trying to figure out how to use a Volca keys with the mixer channel shut off to keep the grinding sound out of my pieces. ☹️
I like the aesthetic of the machine personally, very clean design!
NO randomly jumping patches like with Uno Synth?
Randomly how?
There's a new f/w for the Uno Synth which is supposed to fix the problem with 'jumping' preset selection.
my concern is the battery compartment. I have the UNO. after their initial batteries expired, I grabbed new batteries and it failed to turn on. I used the USB for power and it had a hum so I hope they fixed that with the drum machine.
Is it the same size like the Uno synth? 🤔
Or should I stay with my Roland td-30?
How would you connect this to a mixer and PA system for playing shows?
It's a really capable drum machine but the mono out and lack of panning kills it in my opinion. Sure, the drum machines of yester-year were mono but they also had individual outputs as well so you could send the sounds to a mixer. This doesn't. I don't know about you but I never have all my drums running straight down the middle of my mix.
Ashley Webb for live use it would be fine.
@@danpreston564 Oh, for sure. I just felt the lack of stereo out was a glaring omission. It should have been mentioned in the review as well.
Ashley Webb I only do live or rehearsing for live, so I don’t care much for stereo mixes. Just put it through a width expander in the mix if it needs it, I guess.
Damn this is actually really tempting. I've been having a tough time deciding what first drum machine to get. On the one hand, the kick, FM drum and price of the Drumbrute Impact seem unbeatable, but I'm put off by the lack of a nice clap (I don't really like the pseudo snare/clap). The TR8 has the advantage of more variety in sounds but I already have good 808/909/707/727 samples, and it's a bit large. The original Drumbrute has my favourite sounds out of the box but is the most expensive and is even bigger than the TR8.
...Meanwhile this little guy beats all of them on small form factor. Is the cheapest. Has as much variety as the TR8. Has a nice clap. ...and I really like the sound out of the box.
...And it has automation on top of that?! And is battery powered? And has complete midi implementation? FM stuff? Really cool stutter effects? Control all?
The others are more hands on and have individual outs, but that feels like small sacrifices to pay for everything else. Think I may have to grab one. Thanks for the review!
literally my thoughts lol
Buy the Korg volca
@@hermansimms8410 very specific
Sounds decent to me.
Can you go live with this ...?
Behringer 909 looks sooooo much better, same price too.
Ya i cant wait for the 909 to hit the market. Looks great
Yeah and you get the same tired 909 sound that’s been done to death. Don’t get me wrong it sounds great but these are aimed at 2 different buyers.
@@HotStrange
" . . . same tired 909 sound . . . " Exactly.
Still not out dude, you believe in Behringer? They just wanted you to stop buying other brands
The PCM sounds are horrible! My Uno was really noisy on the PCM sounds when battery powered... I returned it after an hour of testing... Apparently this is to make it sound vintage...
It is terribly noisy on USB power from a computer. On batteries It seems to get noisier as the they are running down . I found it quite clean from a usb wall wart though so it's great for me as I would never take it out of the studio.
I like the noise, adds character?
Silly that this doesn’t load samples
I can hear it is very noisy, the same like volca sampler
