Kind of a different video this week, but I thought this would be fun an insightful for those interested in The Hulk. What's your favorite version of The Hulk? Least favorite?

Fun fact: Merged Hulk was the version of the Hulk used in the Marvel fighting games until Marvel vs. Capcom 3, which started using the Savage Hulk.

Guilt hulk is one of my favorites because he shows up during an already tense arc about banner reconciling with his hulks but then all of a sudden this crazy version shows up and every character immediately goes "okay, this one CANNOT manifest".
Because when you think about it, yeah guilt hulk probably would be the strongest from how much guilt banner has about himself and the damage hes caused.

Actually, Peter David brought back the gray Hulk in the 80's. He returned to being green full-time in the 90's.

When Hulk was first created Bruce originally turned into him during the night and would turn back into Bruce Banner the next morning. It was his attempts to cure himself of The Hulk that caused Bruce to turn when he was angry or stressed.
Guilt and Devil are my favorites; the one thing Banner truly seems to fear is becoming his father.
I love that one comic book Scene where Hulk said he wanted to Protect Banner

My favorite hulk was "The Professor." He had the brains, the brawns and the attitude. When fighting apocalypse, his control side was submerged by the X-Men. They then had the "Heroes Reborn" storyline. Bruce was trapped in an alternate universe, while the hulk was slowly burning out.

Jean Shirazawa the merged hulk and the maestro are different reflections of the same personality. Maestro is what might happen if the merged hulk becomes evil. Peter David once stated that the basic concept of the merged hulk was that the power who go to Bruce’s head and he would end up becoming like the person that he hates the most: his dad.
During the “ omega hulk” storyline, Gerry Duggan constantly implied that the Doc green persona was simply the savage hulk with a genius level intellect. Essentially, an inverse of the Banner Hulk persons where Bruce was in control of the savage hulk’s body and maintained his own individual intelligence while being able to control the transformation at well.
Mine will always be the Savage Hulk for his power, noble attentions but bad excution, and storyines

You missed another time banner and hulk were separated when they (I believe Jean Grey, could be mistaken) awoke mindless hulk by removed banner from the psyche.
They did this as a kind of desperate act, so that he could completely and mindlessly rage as a 'Hail Mary' attempt to defeat "Onslaught" who had came into existence through the combining of the two psyches of
"Magneto" & "Charles Xavier".

The split personality hulks (joe fix it, savage, Bruce) trying to gain control is my favorite hulk arc. Also guilt and devil hulk are my favorite arcs to because you get to fight devil hulk in a old hulk video game called the Incredible Hulk ultimate destruction.
Planet hulk had such emotional weight to me. I could read 10 more issues of that.😂
15:41 His mind didn't heal. Backstory: This was the Hulk that was separated from Banner after the Onslaught incident and who had remembered that Bruce Banner accidentally killed his father. He had been hallucinating the ghost of Brian Banner, and also had shrapnel in his mind from a grenade "Savage Banner" was killed by. Apocalypse removed it in exchange for Hulk becoming his new horseman, which temporarily silenced Brian's ghost. It was injuring Rick, possibly crippling him, and the reappearance that caused him to freak out and rip the bonded armor from his flesh in both anger and fear. The trigger was Brian insinuating that he was now just like him.

Although from childhood until my senior year of HS I was a Savage Hulk fan.
Thanks for talking about the full story with who merged Hulk is. I've seen a lot of videos which write him off as what he became rather than talking about the pre retcon origin.
In some 80's Hulk comics , Hulk and Banner would argue with each other on who was going to come out some times.

@@NegaHumanX Well, as far as I know, according to my old 80's Hulk comic books, .....Bruce's cruel father worked at a nuclear research lab and over time soaked up a few rays here and there. His name was Brian Banner. After Bruce was born , Brian shown signs of abuse towards both his son and wife, especially Bruce , who was born with a high I.Q. . Brian didn't like it and claimed his son one day will become a monster.
After Brian killed his wife, and fled the scene, Bruce grew up with the image of his father killing his mother, and started repressing his anger to become an emotionless scientist.
These were the seeds that eventually became The Hulk. The Hulk is Banners full anger personified, with its own giant body. The grey Hulk is in my opinion the " Teenage smart mouth " that Bruce never became in real life. He's not as strong as the green Hulk, but he's cunning, and a user as well. After the grey Hulk found out Rick felt guilt over Banner 's accident, he would tout Rick with " Well, if it wasn't for YOU, this wouldn't have happened to ME!!!." PURE GUILT TRIP for Rick Jones.
Also, as the green Hulk, only Betty Ross could calm him down because of the fact it was Bruce' s mom who always stood up for him against his angry father. So, Betty Ross was also compassionate for Bruce.
The Hulk is a giant due to the fact that when Bruce was a small child, his raging father was like an angry giant towards him.
It's all psychological.
And tragic. Bruce Banner's father also suffered from radiation poisoning as well. That explains why Bruce can return to normal after " Hulking out." The giant green Hulk is just a super strong " Baby" lashing out at the world. His intellect is like an angry infant on a destruction binge. At one point the Hulk started becoming his own person over Bruce .
He at that point started knowing that Banner was out to get him, and the Hulk/ Banner hatred began. The Hulk wanted to rid himself of Banner, as much as Banner wanted to get rid of the Hulk.

@@johnbockelie3899 I've read all of the Hulk up to about the 2000s and I'm pretty sure I'm up to date until the newer immortal hulk run, and the sections about Bruce past have always been the stand outs for me.
Did you ever read the issues where a bunch of creators show up as a theater troupe and make him remember a bunch of repressed stuff from between the abuse and the gamma bomb?
We've since received a new Persona with an Unnamed hulk in avengers standoff who only appeared for that event and Devil hulk supposedly supressed that persona as he stated during immortal hulk

I like a video on The Leader. If possible, think you could do similar videos on the complexities of Spider-man's villains or perhaps one on the appeal and potential of Gorilla Grodd? I bet you can make a great analysis on Grodd.

I don’t really have a favorite or least favorite Hulk. I just wish they’d dive into his split personality more often.
I feel like in the MCU we've seen 4 different versions of Hulk so far
Savage Hulk (from Incredilbe Hulk to the beginning of Infnity War; with Banner having some sorta of control)
Mindless Hulk (the Helicarrier scene in the Avengers & the rampage in Age of Ultron)
Green Scar (mainly in Thor Ragnarok)
And currently Merged Hulk (Endgame and She-Hulk)

I've always called the Grey Hulk from Incredible Hulk issue #1 as "Prototype Hulk"
You need to do an essay on Indestructible Hulk (which is one of the better Hulk comic series) and you need to do an essay on Planet Hulk (that was where I started to really read Hulk comics) which is considered one of the best Hulk stories of all time.
Really Though. Peter David's Work on The Incredible Hulk Comic Book Series Started in the Late 80's to Mid 90's.

Don't have a particular favorite.
But I'm fascinated by the slow de-evolution of the character over the years from Bruce Banner to Joe Fixit to The Incredible Hulk.
From SCIENTIST to THUG to CAVEMAN.
I also loved his evolution into the Merged Hulk who was an ACTION HERO.
What I dislike is that Banner's mind is TOO fragmented.
He has way too many separate personalities in his mind when the main 3 Banner, Fixit, and Hulk are enough.
I think of War World/World Breaker Hulk as basically a merged Hulk and Fixit with only Banner separated.
My favorite versions of Hulk:
Mister Fixit, The Professor, and the savage, but childlike Hulk.

I figured it out: when the Savage Hulk says "Hulk will smash!" or "Hulk smash!", "smash" is Hulk-ese for "kill". The only reason he doesn't kill is because Robert Bruce Banner won't kill.
You left out the Hulks that resulted from the Onslaught/Heroes Reborn saga.

One theory I read is that the Hulk has the mind of a child, literally. He was born seconds after a gamma bomb and lead by angry thanks to Banner’s troubled past. This explains why he gets (even more) angry when as the Hulk, smashes things he doesn’t like, and why he speaks in broken English. Because he was born only a couple of years ago (in comic time).

Xeronimo74 Yeah I really like Hulk: Gray! It's a strong standalone story, which is kinda rare in Hulk comics. A lot of the great ones are part of a much, much larger narrative. I also think Planet Hulk is really strong and is pretty self contained.

Gosh I am not a fan of Mr. Fixit and the Grey Hulk is my least favorite Hulk Green Hulk is my favorite along with the Hulk from World War Hulk

This video is so weird and here's why; My favorite version of the Hulk is what I call... and somehow I'm the only one?... the "jerk" Hulk. He's one of earlier incarnation of the Hulk but he's also the one used in the Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes show from a few years back. This is the most important fact about Jerk Hulk: He is not Banner. He has nothing to do with Banner. He doesn't even like the guy, he's that much of a jerk. But he is not the classic Hyde archetype or even the Savage Hulk in that he actively chooses to help people and he can express that desire verbally.... even as he's totally a Jerk about it. Avengers 1 and 2, FF 13, and early run Hulk stories are the ones that depict this version the best in the comics.
I tried other versions but most of them seem to ignore one of the major flaws of the character: Banner is boring. I don't mean that in "Who's this wimpy guy? I want to see the Hulk!" sort of way but in a "Who cares what Banner thinks or does? He's the Hulk at any time the story needs him to be." This is why the first two modern Hulk movies fail as they tried to be the Savage Hulk and needed to rely on puny Banner for suspense and tension. "Oh no, is he going to turn?!" But that only works with the original Hyde Hulk, where he's the out and out villain and it certainly doesn't work with the misunderstood childlike Hulk. But then there's Thor: Ragnarok and the debut of the Jerk Hulk in the MCU. He can think, he can talk, he can crack jokes... again, he's a Jerk so he can stop and make snide remarks in the face in both danger and total destruction... and again, he's not Banner.
Why is this version better than the typical "Don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me if I was angry" Banner/Hulk? Because that version is merely a reaction to outside forces while the Jerk Hulk is a compromise between two beings in one body... or in the case of Infinity War, not.
Tskmaster I think that is often what the Grey Hulk personaility is meant to be; minus the whole changing in between night and day (though that is the original reason the Hulk came out before it gets retconed one issue later).

I like the hulk when he’s more of a horror character, like a werewolf, instead of a big green superhero. They should make a monster movie out of the hulk, one more psychological of Bruce Banners inner struggle, instead of trying to make the standard superhero blockbuster.

My story would be like:
Bruce wander in the worlds crown, then attacked by tigers transform in to Hulk. Later after tigers easy defeat Hulk attack single old man that....defeat Hulk by mysteriously KOing him XD
That old man was matrial art master. Later they both train in the Chinese shrine. Bruce learn how to be calm, old master told him anger make him weak and vulnerable, when serenity make him strong. Stronger than anything. After mentall training, he challenges both Hulks and defeat them in mind battle. Now Bruce absorbs them by accepting his "dark side" and become Hulk at will. Although villains want him, his powers and serum...
