- I saw this gadget being touted on social media, so I picked one up and tried it out. There may be other models that work better, but the one I bought left a lot to be desired.

"Come on now..." always a sign that a product has failed 😂
Regular knife much quicker and easier than that.
@@anitajinfla9762how do you make a mandolin that's more dangerous and less useful? The person invented this thing thought to themselves.
Haha!! So true
Hahah yeah!
Or Come on man. Lol.
Lmao! Welp, we all look forward to seeing this product make a triumphant return at the end of the year’s “Worst Of” List 😂
So many of these gadgets just make me think USE A DAMN KNIFE
Or just use a box grater with a slicing side. Or a mandoline.
Our thrift stores and dumps are going to be filled with Temu products before long.
I don’t care if any TEMU items are perfect, I will never, never shop from this company!
So sad. I'll never shop from them either and I do wish people would do some research on how they treat vendors etc
I volunteer in a charity shop and I’m already seeing clothes from Shein in the racks - none of it is really worth buying, second hand or new.
Goodwill near me has a bunch of their stuff.
I thought they already were?
I feel like I can get a better result from the chef's knife I already own. And probably less dangerous too. I'm a huge klutz lol.
My thoughts exactly!
@@Freakinreviews "How do we make a mandolin slicer more dangerous?" "Put a handle on it?" "You're hired."
Plot twist: It was actually designed by a left handed person.
Ha. @@Freakinreviews
@@Freakinreviews bro you sliced it wrong its supposed to sit on the table not in the hand
i kept thinking don’t cut yourself watch your fingers another great review
That would set the scene for a band aid comparison video just perfectly though.
I had to look away a few times
They just forgot to add finger shredder to the description. 🤫...🥺
Never mind putting it in the boneyard, straight to the garbage. Lol
the mandolin shredder is a LOT more consistent and safer.
I kept thinking about the cut resistant gloves you reviewed a while back while you were using this gadget. That thing looks like an accident waiting to happen at any moment! Come on now! LOL
I think you need to use it while the vegetable is on the board and not holding it up in the air.
Then how would he cut to the bottom? This is a bad product. Just use a sharp knife. It's safer,. more controlled. and will last longer. Even a cheap 10 chef knife if you keep it sharp would be miles better
I would definitely appreciate more reviews on things catering to the disabled. I was looking at remote starts because the arthritis in my hands makes it difficult for me to turn the ignition key. The only thing I found that makes more leverage for keys doesn't fit a coded key.
YES!!! I totally agree!!!!
That thing looks dangerous. I'll stick to a good sharp knife.
the problem is it is not sharp next that thing looks dangerous and if work i would not put it near a human, jesus
I second that
Best unboxing ever lmao
Us lefties...screwed again, and 10 hours later, coleslaw 🙄 Great video as always James 👍 Happy Saturday
Doesn’t seem to work for righties, so I don’t particularly feel bad abt being excluded
No lefties just ain’t gonna be suckered into buying that POS. 😂
You're only 10% of the population.
I'm glad you got through that without losing a finger. I was nervous just watching!
“Maybe if I push harder” said the guy about to cut himself.
I shredded a whole head of cabbage recently in 5 minutes with a sharp knife. Plus, I'm left-handed so no bueno for me. I hate single-task gadgets anyway.
In regards to the question about one-handed gadgets, I think one thing that would be cool to see would be for any products that are targeted at - or at least seem like they could be useful for - people with disabilities or lower physical abilities, would be to come up with some sort of way of testing those claims.
Perhaps testing certain products as if you only had the use of one hand, or - as I've seen done before as a way to test diminished grip strength, using your non-dominant hand with a little oil on your fingers - or other such scenarios.
Would certainly be an interesting way to see how these products might help people who really may benefit from them.
Almost every As Seen On TV gadget is designed for people with disabilities. They market then to the general public to get the costs down
I cant speak for him, from what I know about him he wont touch on products that are accessible. He doesnt want to show products that aren't for the "general population ." Edit: he's actually said that before in a few of his videos.
As for Bailey "Ball is Life"
James my man...try this one again while keeping the veg firmly affixed on the cutting board...not floating dangerously above your fingers with no downward pressure
He does this a lot with kitchen gadget reviews, working with them in mid-air for some reason and then concluding they're dangerous, take a lot of strength to operate, make a mess, etc. In fact, click on any random vegetable preparation video on the channel and you'll see he doesn't use the cutting board as intended. The chopping board is just there for the food to fall onto 😄
You continue to be my favourite product reviewer. Thank you for your honest and fair reviews.
Great review as always James
it's much more efficient shredding with a chef's knife than using that monstrosity
That old picture of you looks like Peter Frampton 😂
This is just a more dangerous mandoline, terrifying.
Well the one time as a left handed im glad to be left out!
James is one of the only product reviewers I find enjoyment out of watching. Great job as always
They should rebrand this as the _Finger Slicer_ or _Hand Shredder........_ probably sell more.
This was the first review of yours that I had to fast-forward. That slicer is absolutely crap. This is what’s wrong with online sales. You can make anything look good with some skill, camera trickery etc. This is why I watch your vids, no cutting out mistakes, bad products get the reviews they deserve. Keep up the great work dude.
I would definitely cut my fingers off I’m so clumsy so they weren’t thinking about people like me!
As someone who has learned the hard way please buy a pair of Chain mail gloves when you test or use things like this a knife or a .mandolin. You don't always have to use both but this thing is dangerous to your "holding" hand among other parts as it flies out of your hand. Now you know why they don't put handles on a crappy mandolin on a stick... if you're a Jeff Dunham fan.
I found the Q&A quite interesting and things to look out for too as a consumer.
He's an adult and can make his own choices
@HeyThatWeirdGuy That is absolutely true and since I care about people in general and this presenter specifically I made a suggestion which is the best choice based on a mature evaluation of the downside risks of sharp objects in the culinary environment. What would your choice be the unthinking, uncaring, self-centered immature, and downright stupid?
Don't try to play with me little boy, I am way out of your league especially when it comes to caring and understanding others.
Iirc he has some from a previous review. Probably would have been good to wear them lol
@@soogymoogi Gee, I don't remember that review but as I alluded to it is always utensils like this that have cut me up the most.
When your reviews are for a great product, they are excellent. When they are for a bad product, they are hysterical. Yep, lettuce is the most benign thing we can cut. It would have been easier to rip it apart with your hands. Thanks for all you do.
Rust brand new, that temu quality. Totally worth giving your info directly to china.
That shredder would probably only "shred" skin off your fingers! As an ER Nurse Manager, that thing is an ER visit waiting to happen! Ugh!
That was a very scary video. I kept expecting you to slice yourself with that thing.
I have a question for your Q&A: Have you ever heard from a brand or maker after you've reviewed (good or bad) their item?
It did feel dangerous at times!
And yes I've heard from quite a few brands after doing reviews. If the review was good, they ask me to review more of their products. If the review was bad, they usually complain about something. To their credit, after my first BlendJet review, they wrote to me and thanked me for my criticisms and eventually made a lot of improvements in the next version (which was recently recalled!).
What was the point of saying "Q^A" after telling them you have a question?
@@DickWigglin
James asked for questions for his next Q and A video...c’mon, you knew what they meant, no need to nitpick on people.
@@themustar601 No need to have preconceived notions of someone you know absolutely nothing about. It's illogical to assume I'm privy to James asking for "questions for his next Q and A video."
This feels like an item you insist is good to a family member or friend. Just to watch them struggle though 😅. Maybe try it like a mandolin instead?
Lettuce. The BENIGN vegetable. 😂
@1:40 its okay, Im used to feeling left out and living in a world where tools are made for right handers only and them trying to kill me every day of my life.
Yessss wig video do it do it. I was always curious. I am thinking of using wigs as hats. Not to pretend to have hair but as a fashion statement. I always wondered which price range I should go for.
The first cut on the red cabbage was the best - proving that the First Cut is the Deepest! 😂 🎉
I see what you did there 😀
I’m no culinary expert but I believe one of the top rules when using a kitchen knife is to NEVER cut things mid air.
I bought one of these off Amazon that works reliably with cabbage (the denser the better,) but it does feel like by design, they're easy to get wrong build wise. Either the blades are good with the right spacing, or it's DOA with no easy fix. I certainly wouldn't recommend getting one from any place that doesn't have a lenient return policy as they are apparently much more YMMV than I thought. Guess I got lucky.
When you really want to chop sloppy and inefficient, there are no substitutes.
For the person who asked about the ice making machine:
I’ve had our Frigidaire countertop ice maker for over 2.5 years and it’s still going strong. It’ll be 3 years old in May. Best tip-keep a quart of water in the fridge for making ice. We get better ice cubes from the get-go when we start with cold water.
The more I look at all those 'new gadgets', the more I appreciate my good old (15+ years of service) V-slicer (aka mandoline). You need to cut the cabbage in halves or quarters (depending on size), but it's strudy, safe and reliable. It does 4 kinds of slices, sticks (and even 'cubes', if you spend some efforts).
The shredder looks like it would work better if you were moving it forwards or backwards while pushing it down so that you are using more of the blade for each cut. Though I doubt it would improve it much.
I bought the FridigAire ice maker from the review a few months ago for the holidays and it works as described and makes flavorless ice. It may be a bit of an energy(?) and space hog but that thing pumps out ice like clockwork. FYI, start making ice about an hour ahead if you want a full hopper when it's time for drinks.
I’m just starting this video and that slicer thing looks downright dangerous! I have a wonderful mandolin (called a V-Slicer) I’ve had for more than 30 years and it’s still perfectly sharp and does what I want without any problems.
Almost love seeing the fails more than the good stuff. Would enjoy seeing you review differently-abled products.
Cheers from the Midwest USA
Plot twist:
It was actually designed by a left handed person.
Ha.
OMG the whole time you were using this my anxiety was through the roof! All I could think of was you slicing up your fingers. It drove me nuts! 😜
This thing SHREADED your hopes for it!
To be perfectly fair, you were not trying to cut it, you were trying to "chop" it.
You would have better results if as you pressed down, you pushed or pulled the blade further or closer to you, sort of a sawing motion.
It's basically a mandolin on a knife. Sometimes as you try to cut with a mandolin you not only need to pull the object across the blade, but you get better cuts if you move diagonally.
But its still kind of a bleh product. Still would have been faster with a knife.
Not that this thing seems to work well, but you'd probably have better luck with the cabbage on the board instead of trying to hold it up in the air. You also need to hit the cabbage way higher than you were hitting it. You were basically bringing the shredder down on the top of the cabbage which is why it was gliding. You needed to make sure those blades were catching the edge, not hitting the side. Which looks like it'd be awkward to do. Not sure why this is any better than a box grater or something.
That's a hell no! It looks like sheet metal you use for your ductwork!
If I want fast shredding cabbage, my food processor is quicker and safer.
Considering what's in the background, you must be a "wild and crazy guy" to use that thing!
wig review sounds like a great april fools day video though.
Another gadget that will end up at a landfill after one use.
Had to pause the video to say that I'd absolutely watch a wig review video, lmao.
Holy cow, this review kept me so anxious, such a dangerous product!! 😰
Thank you for saving me from buying another useless piece of kitchen equipment
Holding the food in the air while cutting it is such an odd technique.
Bonus points for the Wild and Crazy Guy album in the background!
That looks like a trip to the emergency room in the making!
It’s your technique…lay the cutter down flat and rub the cabbage over the blades, letting gravity feed it for you. That small pocket/space will catch the shavings and you can empty them into a bowl once done with the amount you want. A left gander can use it like this too.
James: “The first cuts not bad…”
Me: *immediately singing* “THE FIRST CUT IS THE DEEEEPEST” 😂
Anyone else? lol
I am left handed and you righties can keep that finger shredder😂 Thanks James, awesome reviews as always! ❤
The Steve Martin album in the background is awesome.
Should have use the Schwer level 9 gloves that you reviewed last year u right that look dangerous at 5:12.
Pretty sure my mom uses it just like a normal knife, chopping down onto a surface, instead of this "while hanging in mid-air", a knife wouldn't work that well in mid-air either
i got that ice machine you have and it started getting stuck now idk if i cleaned it too rough and might have messed something up but it works great if i reset it every now and then
Bit frustrating that you did not try a sawing slicing motion. But just strait chopped which is always harder.
I've fallen on TV and I can't get up!
Best way to improve it. Put it in the recycle bin and bust out the mandolin.
The wig idea maybe fun to do and fun for us to watch, Also people may honestly want/need a wig so this could help people out, Im lucky I don't need a wig because even at age 56 I still have the hair you had in the pick while my dad and 2 of my brothers lost all thiers, I don't think id use one either but lot's of people do, I would not count out doing a wig video and if nothing else you will have them for Halloween, So if your up for that video and want to do a poll ill vote YES for it,
"Shredding." I remember that! As in playing drums and attempting to learn to play electric guitar! 😅. I wonder if that meant you were shredding your drumsticks or your... ouch! fingers?!
hey james, was the Q&A section filmed with the new camera you bought? the step up in quality is very noticable!
That was with my Sony A7Siii which is my main camera. I have just been practicing getting better at certain shots! My new camera is mostly for handheld shots or when I'm walking around.
Thanks for this review. I think a good old old-fashioned knife, grater, and kitchen shears work just fine. lol Cabbage and Luttes are so easy to cut up imo After I cut them up, I put in a bowl and then chop with my kitchen shears. Works great!
power consumption wise you can get digitcal readers that measure the consumption so not a bad idea to get a good one of those instead of relying on the manufacturers specs
Sorry Leftys you got LEFT OUT. Great line
"lefties got LEFT out" 😢
I think the double blades actually hinder the efficiency.
I have seen people using a single blade vegetable peeler (one that works forward and back) with the cabbage resting on the cutting board and the blade going back and forth rapidly. Seemed to make very fine shreds with little efforts.
File this with other products that were over thought.
Oh this video gave me so much anxiety! I was so afraid that that thing would slip and cause an injury!!! I hate it lol but I am such a fan of this channel!
Love this channel.
Greetings from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺 💚 💛
This looks like someone had a spatula and said man those edges are so sharp I could shred cabbage with it
I'm left handed but I also have a very small right hand because I'm missing one bone in each finger... Products that are only usable or designed for right hands are so frustrating to see working well by a "typical" person, but I still feel like they miss so many people without situations like myself but still important! Oh well. Great video! 😊🌎❤️🕺🏻
Your comment about all the fake reviews is why I always come back to your Channel anything you review can be trusted
Are you going to review the Drain Weasel? I was really hoping to see a review from you before purchasing it.
I dont eat lettuce but still watched this, just a testament to how good reviews are
I also wasn't impressed by how messy it was - cabbage flying everywhere.
Thanks for the review. That went about how I thought when I saw it on your instagram😊
BTW how about an air fryer review? I just got one, it’s the mini-oven type and I love it. It rotisseries chickens too, in my opinion way better than those Ninja rubbish, but hey, you’re the master, let’s see what you think.
there's honestly a better type that's usually heavy and wooden and has the blades oriented perpendicularly to the handle like a big grater that typically works tons better due to how you can just sort of push and pull with it rather than slicing by dragging it across the cabbage like a knife
Somebody took one look at a mandolin and thought that was too safe and made this
In regards to a blender review....would you include a glass vs plastic jug? I've only owned glass jug blenders but need to buy a new one. I've been told the plastic jugs get very badly scratched and cloudy over time from ice, nuts, etc. which makes sense to me. A real world demonstration would be beneficial:)
They do, even the expensive ones. My parents have a vitamix that looks like it's dirty from all the scratches. And you know those scratches means plastic getting in the mix 🤢
@@Aubreykun Thankyou!! I gotta be honest, never thought about where the plastic from the grooves/scratches was going! Gross is right! Glass jug it is:)....Also, it is easier for bacteria to hide in the scratches even after a thorough washing.
@@kanderson8981 Yup. Also the glass ones usually allow you to easily remove the blade assembly for cleaning, and the threads are often the same as a mason jar - utility!
The plastic ones often require special tools to take apart, so they're difficult to fully clean even brand new. Plus the plastic as it ages can leach chemicals...
@@Aubreykun Thankyou so, so much Aubreykun for all of the information:) You've been very generous with your time.😊
I've been watching your videos for a while now and I just noticed something interesting about them. Lately your videos are "X amount of minutes and 24 seconds" long (at least in the thumbnails, the actual video might be a second shorter), but your videos from last year all end at X:23 (again, in the thumbnails), and so on. Is this intentional, like a little nod to the year the videos are uploaded or just a HUGE coincidence? Pretty cool either way c:
Hey, I have that same album, sitting in the background there! ... Wild and crazy guy! 😁
love watching you edge the cabbage
Damn - that looks like a medieval torture device - LOL.
