- A composition I wrote for a friend after visiting the Christmas fair in Edinburgh, filmed in an old library...
Here’s the structure:
0:00 The ride begins (melody)
0:22 Melody repeats with slightly embellished texture
0:40 Countermelody
1:18 Opening theme briefly returns with new bassline
1:34 Variation of Countermelody
2:03 Opening melody returns
2:20 Variation of Countermelody/climax
2:49 Coda in which tension dies down gradually like the ride coming to an end
3:24 Suddenly starts again

Haha - thank you so much, my friend!
@@LukeFaulknerhow did you come up with this melody and the chords if I may ask? Thanks for sharing
I bought this sheet music this morning before I saw the premiere notification!!!
I think we must be on the same wavelength, Diane!
I am so glad when I listen to your ability, Mr. Faulkner ✨️⚘️✨️
Thank you so much! 🥰
If childhood memories had a soundtrack, it would be this piece! Beautiful . . .
Aww - thank you, Heather!
Wow, what an amazing performance and music piece. Love your music so much Luke!!
You have done it once again. Last Friday, I was just recently visiting the amusement park with my mother's physics class (she teaches a physics class as well) and, among the small group consisting of my sisters and our friend from the physics class, the carousel was quite the pleasant little joy for us. Listening to this brings me back to last the carousel on which we rode to victory on our mighty steeds, and I gloriously won the horse race between the four of us. I love that you can add a pretty touch of such mystery and drama to something so playful; it has such emotional depth to it, not to mention four minutes of beautiful attention to musical detail.
Haha - two coincidences in as many weeks, JT! Congratulations on your victory!
I will definitely buy the sheet music for this piece as soon as I buy my new keyboard. This is wonderful as always, Luke!
A great weekend to you and everyone here!
Thank you so much, my friend! I hope you enjoy playing it!
A lovely composition Luke. And the Library os my type of place . I am listening to this music and walzing with myself in the library before finding a book to read
I hope you found a great book, SP!
@@LukeFaulkner There are many great books . I would be spoiled for choice
This is a beautiful composition, I absolutely love it. It is like walking into a childhood memory. You're a very gifted composer. I will look forward to listening to some more 🤍 I'm stellbound....gorgeous it just sounds like the excitement as of a child seeing the Carousel.
Aww - thank you so much for your kind words, Rose!

Thank you so much!
You deserve so much more recognition, your music is amazing!
Thank you so much - you're very kind!
I'm going to leave my comment now, having heard the single this morning and because it will be 2 am my time and I'm afraid I may come off sounding like I 've written everything in a drunken haze! 😂 Love, love the music and the fantastic hall. Your wonderful music has taken me back to one of the most memorable fairground rides I had ever been on.
I was 11 years old when my friend and I went on the Merry-Go- Round . This was not your garden variety painted wooden horses bobbing up and down type. We were strapped into swings and it began slowly at first but quickly turned into a wild ride, and moving at light speed! Before long, we were spinning horizontally and parallel to the ground far below. By the time we finished, we were hoarse from screaming and somewhat wobbly and had to seek comfort in lots of fairy floss! I' haven't thought of that day in years so thanks so much dear Luke for this wonderful trip back into the past. Ros 🌷
Same 😁 and we made it by holding our eyes hard to Luke's premier with sellotape on our eyelids 😅.
@@surainihashim reminds me of late night clamming for finals which thank goodness I don't have to go through again!
That's such a lovely memory, dear Ros! I think the carousel I went on was a bit tame in comparison 😅
@@LukeFaulkner HA!Ha! This is spooky. I was just watching an old video of you playing Rachmaninov's prelude 7 and 8 at Somerville Chapel when your reply came through! 😳 HAve a nice day!
This absolutely enchanting!! It feels like an urgent message. Well done Luke! Love the location too 🫶🏻
Thank you so much, Sahra!
Wonderful ! 🌻
This is enchanting, I'm so happy you're in the world making music
Aww - thanks for making me smile!
What a treat after a difficult week. Thank you.
I hope things are better for you this week!
What a nice piece! As a classically trained youth composer (14 yo) this is great inspiration to get up and compose for the next composition competition I’m entering! Great use of chord progression and color! 10/10 Bravo! It gives a sense of mystery and nostalgia. Looking forward for things in the future from you! Just subscribed 😊
I love this one! As much as I like the artwork on your earlier video, it's nice to watch you play it and provide a 'breakdown' of the piece :)
Aww - thank you, Abi!
You are the new gem I've found! Found you through The Lost City.
Thank you for finding me!
Moves the soul Luke 🎹
Thank you so much, dear Rosita!
That transition back into the main melody around 2:00 is so seamless. The chord progression and textures are really magical; beautiful piece!
Thank you so much, Bethany!
Simply the best. You always maintain the high level in your compositions. I look forward to more productions, more songs, more piano. Thank you for gifting us with these jewels.
Thank you so much, Jeorge! There's plenty more to come :)
beautiful
Beautiful ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Amazing. 🙏
Thank you!

Haha - thank you! 🥰
I feel grateful to live in a time when the composer can demonstrate both visually and audibly what his intentions were for his creation. What a true joy to learn in this format. What would Bach have wished to communicate. What of Beethoven. How much is lost over time of creators' intentions. In this time of fake news and AI synthetic/artificial renderings, somehow it warms my heart to be part of experiencing such a talented artist sharing with the world. His music inspires me to practice and also to simply appreciate the gift he has been given. Sharing the excitement of awaiting with the global community of his supporters for his premiere was fun. I simply feel gratitude.
The good he does with his immense talent flows farther than he knows. This seems to be an inflection point in time where his type of understanding of music subtly communicates where words do not. I am awkwardly expressing what I feel in my being is true. HIs music calms me and encourages me and opens my eyes to see more clearly what is around me. Music is truly a gift. His hard work and perseverance in such a difficult industry is appreciated. My words may stumble but I wish him the best.
There was nothing awkward at all in your lovely message - this is beautifully written and expressed, dear Diane! I'm not sure what the future will bring for music, especially if AI keeps improving, but the present is certainly a great time for bringing people together and building communities around rather niche genres of music. It's such a pleasure to read your kind messages and I greatly appreciate your support!
@@LukeFaulkner May we each play our part, where we are, as we have gifts. May we use technology to connect us when appropriate. May we appreciate the value of niche genres.
Excellent
Thank you, Abby!
Your friend is very lucky 🙂

Amazing piece, as usual, Luke! I'm going to have to buy the sheet music and learn this one as well.
