  • In her quest to become a world-famous violinist, Ji-Hae Park fell into a severe depression. Only music was able to lift her out again -- showing her that her goal needn't be to play lofty concert halls, but instead to bring the wonder of the instrument to as many people as possible.

    Hi! I am the violinist Ji-Hae Park. I've been watching and experiencing (by doing concerts, meeting people all around the world!) how many people can listen and watch how powerful music can be through TED. (I was recently on TEDx Darmstadt Germany!)
    I just want to express my deepest thank to TED and you people, watching this. Especially these days, musicians affected by this horrible COVID19, I appreciate the opportunity sharing my story and the power of music through this kind of platform. I don't know how I can thank YOU and TED enough! It is..... like I said in this video... indescribable! I just.... wanted to have said that at least once after..... 7 years... that I am still watching that and almost cry by the gratefulness that I had this kind of huge(!!!) opportunity to share. Thank you TED and thank you, GUYS!

      Anyone who plays the violin well has had to dedicate a lot of time to it. Its definitely not easy. No room for error on the violin. Race has nothing to do with it.

    • @sebastianwalker2200
      @sebastianwalker2200 Před 3 lety +14

      It really honestly sucks, because a lot of us asian, aren’t looked at as worthwhile in a social standpoint, so the next thing we do is work on something, so someone would just look at us, because we feel like we aren’t worth anything unless we are good at something. It honestly sucks, and no one can ever really understand how I feel like, always saying things like, “oh, you’re like that because you’re Asian.” I have gotten a couple times, when I succeed at something, someone would try to contradict me with, “oh u could’ve done this or that.” Also, a lot of us face a lot of racism, but everyone thinks of it as a joke or just ignores it, but it can honestly hurt sometimes. I personally feel like I don’t deserve or I don’t have any right to live sometimes. Or just any reason to live. I mean they make it harder for Asians to go to universities, because we “succeed” too much, like how is one Asian doing better on a fricking test, show that we all do that. I’m talking on a American standpoint, I honestly sometimes don’t get how America is one of the best countries, because it’s so fucking racist here. I face racism everyday and no one pays any mind, it’s like I don’t exist here. They literally treat black and brown people like fucking babies, ignore all the Native American problems, and shoves racism toward Asians and whites, then says we can’t face racism, like wtf. Whatever I’m just rambling at this point. But this world has literally put a hierarchy with those who succeed most at the bottom of importance and those with less success at the top. Ignoring the fact that each and every person is different, doesn’t fucking matter what your skin is, skin is literally just like hair, no fucking difference

    A true musician isn't defined by how long they've played, how high quality their instrument is, or even if they can make good music. A true musician can make others feel what they're feeling through their music. She has done this several times over, I can feel her anger, pain, and sadness. And as someone who sucks at the violin it makes me respect her so much. Great job!!!!!

      And thats where you are wrong. Cause in classical music its about the emotion from the piece and carring out the wish from the composer.You are just a tool for composers emotion and you add a lil bit of yourself so you dont disrupt the structure of a piece.When you make it about yourself and what you are feeling although the audience thinks you,, won" in reality u failed by default.

      If you want to be famous, and pack auditoriums, it will take years of practice.
