Christian songs sung in Carnatic base like this song should be an inspiration to the young generation. Through this music they can understand their roots and take pride in the language and culture where they came from and belong to. Pathetically the young generation in the name of modern music has prioritized sound and noise to the words and the spirit contained in those words.
First, I want to congratulate Ms. Sahana David tor so beautifully singing this Carnatic song. Those who love Carnatic Music which is so unique of South India, irrespective of religious beliefs must be able to like this song. It is true the lyrics are very general but, if one looks at closely it refer mostly to Biblical description of how Jesus is described. Music in general is center to any worship. It certainly has a soothing effect and be able to bring some sort of resonance in the body and mind. There is not need to have a war of words on one thing or the other. Whoever wants to hear can hear and free to stop at their own will. But instead, I was so disappointed to see some of the comments. It is absolutely magnificent performance of Ms. David for bringing out her best in this music and if one the person happens to have the same belief it only adds to the happiness. Personally, I would welcome any number of songs in Carnatic Music which by all definition is Indian in origin. We all have to be proud of our ancestors I hope my comments don't offend anyone.
Nice to know a contemporary composition is done in semi-classical style in Tamil. The language being so rich lends itself for great exploits. Sad not many songs in this great language focuses on its richness and profundity. People from other southern states look up to this language with great love, respect and expectations. It's very gratifying to listen to this song. Well composed, optimal orchestration, great rendition and swaras done so well. Please come up with more such pieces that do not compromise on language, composition, rendition et al. Sounds wholesome and is a great offering to the Almighty.
