    You just covered most of the MS311 manual in less than 10 minutes. Nicely done. I appreciate you showing the location of the bar oil adjustment screw; so much easier to see on a clean new unit, and the manual doesn't do a great job of pointing it out.

    I didn't do much research before purchasing a saw. Bought a 291 stihl. Really wish I went just 1 step up to get the 311. Little more power and capable of running a 25 in bar.

    We really like our 311. My main fear with small petrol powered machines is not being able to start it. As long as the starting procedure is followed where the lever is pushed up after the engine burps the engine will start.
    I’m thinking after this video my MS311 needs a 24 inch bar.

    The MS 311 maybe a good saw. But the weight of 6,2 Kg without sword an chain is heavy.
    Power 4,2 PS
    The MS 261 is not so heavy .. 4,9 Kg without sword an chain. Power 4,1 PS.
    The MS 261 is more expensive, but i think. it's the better saw. It's also easier to start.
    In Germany... MS 261 1100€, the MS 311 960€
    I like my MS 261 C-M
    Sorry for my bad english.

      Hi from the state of Arkansas in the U.S. thanks for the info whenever I have to climb and limb trees before I fall them I’ve noticed this son of a bitch is way way heavier than it looks I’m looking for an ms261 because they are almost as powerful without the extra weight. So have you had a good experience with the 260? My 311 has been the best saw I’ve ever owned! It’s powerful and cranks 100% of the time unless it runs out of fuel lol 😁. Have a great day in Germany!!!!

    Why does Stihl recommend a 16 in. bar for this saw? I have one that came with a 20 inch, and it could easily handle the 25 as you talked about. No way I'd carry around this much weight for just a 16 inch bar.

    • @Carlsmower
      @Carlsmower  Před rokem

      Lots of variables to that question. The maximum Stihl recommends is their 25”, I have had customers put a 28” on it. What size bar are you wanting?

      @@danielcomyn2241 That I would say you will be very happy with that saw and if you want a little bit more power maybe go with the 391. That is unless you wanna go all the way up to a 362

      I have the 311 with a 20” bar . Purchased a 25” bar plus an aggressive 25” chain and love the results . Keep your chain sharp and the 4.2 hp of the 311 will handle most needs .

    Interesting videos, is there any chance you can review or comment on the Stihl MS 382? There is very little useful information on this machine - Is it a workhorse? Will it last? Is it a decent machine for day to day work? Be nice to get some more info on it if possible, also, what are the differences between the MS382 and the MS381? Looking at them, they appear very similar, yet the 382 is double the price of the 381! ($460 for the 382 and $215 for the 381 - Thanks - Oh, and also, that screw that adjusts the bar oil flow, it would be useful if you went through the ptocess and reasons behind the one time modification where the screw limiter is punched into the case to allow more oil flow (non reversible)

    • @Rage-oe5dx
      @Rage-oe5dx Před rokem

    I'm a small engine mechanic and have my own business.
    A customer brought me a 3 year d MS311.. he bought off Marketplace.
    Who ever had the saw really abused it.
    I had to repair the bar, replace the ignition coil, pull the limiter caps out of the carb to get it to start ..but only after 10 pulls. So far this saw is a nightmare. I'm ordering a new carb and then see what will happen.

      Cant hardly compare a 5.5hp pro saw to a 4.2 hp farm and ranch saw. The ms311 is a good firewood cutters saw and they last just fine. I've cut 4-5 cord of firewood with my ms310 and ms441c for 12+ years. Mine still has everything original except for wear items and the ignition coil.

      I like the echo that you mentioned,but in alot of places echo doesn't have a large enough dealer support whereas stihl has a shop in almost every county in America. I have one echo dealer and I checked with him every week for almost 2 months wanting either a cs590 or cs501p and he couldnt get them. I agreed to settle for a cs4910 that he had,but when we went to look at it theyd robbed parts off of it to warranty someone else's saw and reordered parts for it. I just threw my hands up and went to one of my three local stihl dealers and bought one from them. Either is a good saw and you'll get many years of service from them.

  • @peanutbuttersanwhich1488

    No. No thank you. I’ll go with the 590
