  • Welcome back to you all,
    In this video I visit the place where I was born, where I photograph and film four fledged Peregrine Falcons around the cliffs on the Cornish Coast, UK.
    The Peregrine is probably up there in my top five birds, an absolute apex predator of the bird world!
    I also talk about the gear I use and some tips and tricks that have help me get the shots.
    As explained in this Vlog Peregrines are a Schedule 1 Licenced bird.
    I hope you enjoy this video.
    Take care of yourselves and others, and stay safe🙏
    Kindest regards
    Richard 🙂

    Great footage and images Richard. Back button focus for me too, I also occasionally use spot metering on a neutral part of the image with a half press of the shutter button in tricky light. Its surprising how quick you can focus, meter and recompose with a bit of practice. Keep up the great work, I look forward to your next adventure. 👍

    Great video,I have Peregrines local to me,they have two fledged young they are feeding at the moment.I use a combination of back button for large focus area for flying birds and a front button for center point focus and shutter button just for shutter on Nikon D500.

    @Gazzab6 Před 4 lety +1

    It's great to see a photographer pleased and hanging on to their camera body for over a four year period. I see too many photographers changing their body practically every two years or less because they think it will make a massive difference to their images so hats off to you Richard for staying with your outgoing body for five years or so and good luck with the 1DX Mk2 which seems to be a great camera. I'm a Nikon shooter myself but I'm aware of the 1DX Mk2's capabilities. I enjoy watching your videos because it brings back many great memories for me when I was stationed at RAF Portreath in 1984-85 (now I'm showing my age). Enjoyed my 18 month posting there, it was awesome. Due to St Mawgan being the parent station and was 23 miles from Portreath, we were allowed to live out in the village of Portreath so we were continually blessed with it's beauty.

    • @RichardBirchett
      @RichardBirchett  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi there Gary, thanks very much for taking the time to comment:-) I'm always reluctant to change often due to the fact there really is never any massive hurry but I did need to change due to the things I mentioned, plus I get very attached to my Camera bodies, feels like an extension of my arm, lol.. Also the money is a deciding factor, never buy new, always second hand! Back in my single days in the Royal Navy I had more money, now mortgage, and family uses up the rest! But still, not always the camera as you know, more on the person behind it. I bet they were awesome days, such a shame so many bases have now gone!!! 😐... great memories my friend, all the very best Richard👍😀

    Hello, Richard. How are you?. Thanks for bringing us this great video. I'm not really very good with English but I tried to understand everything valuable that you told us about it. In a first point, what a beautiful place you went, you tell us that it is a special place for you and really as it will not be, it is incredible friend. Those mountains, that sea, those colors. On the other hand, you showed us that this is the site of the peregrine falcons. We saw that they were eating around leaving traces of their prey, until they came flying. What a fantastic bird, it is a wonderful and powerful raptor in all its aspects. Very good photo you could take perched on those rocks. I think that because of his way of seeing despite being camouflaged, he identified you, they are impressive. The photo in flight is incredible. Very nice sunset timelaps, I can't say that it's a wonderful place. And until you hooked him eating nomas, what a unique moment that nature gives us. Thanks for sharing this great adventure, friend. I send you a very big greeting from Buenos Aires. Hug.

      Hi William, thanks again for watching and taking the time to comment its always really appreciated. They are up there as one of my favourites and I am gaining a licence for them next year all being well; so I can document them pictorially throughout the breeding season, a protected licensed bird in the UK, so to photograph them around the nest you need one from the government body called Natural England. I used a Lenscoat Lenshide from the US, you are probably aware of them, best company out there for all camera lens equipment. There is a link below the log description if you are interested. All the very best from the UK, stay safe R :-)

    Hi Richard, just found your channel and love what you are doing, I am sure you will go from strength to strength. I particularly liked how you edited the photos, would you possibly do a video on what software you use and how you go about your editing? You have asked for suggestions on other videos and another video that would be good to see is how you set up, record and edit the video sequences. I have very similar Canon gear to you but have yet to do any videos, so would appreciate seeing how you go about it. Many thanks and all the best, Richard.

      Hey Richard, thanks very much indeed for saying so, it really does mean a lot and comments like that keep me producing videos which I really enjoy doing. I am hoping to do one on the digital darkroom side of things but I am opening myself up for quite the grilling as I am no Photoshop editing expert as many people are. But I think to show people what works for me will be worth doing. I've seen many fellow Vloggers get quite the negative feedback so It's a dangerous Vlog but hey I'll give it a go. Editing of videos is also an art that i'm still learning but I really enjoy doing it and I learn new skills each time. Every days a school day as I always like to say, lol.. Really pleased to welcome you to the channel and for your comment and support, all the best Richard. :-)

      RICHARD BIRCHETT Hi Richard thought I’d answer your question from my channel about what trail camera I use ! I’ve answered on your channel as I don’t want people to know what make of camera I have as I’ve had some stolen before ! Plus location is a recognisable area to the locals so surprised it hasn’t been pinched ! Ya it’s a Browning recon force advantage ! The Best Buy I’ve ever brought ! Quality is outstanding ! Can buy it on website Nature spy !! £169 !👍take care mate 👍

    Nice film Richard, i know how much effort goes into making these films so well done. A beautiful part of the country youre in there but its also a challenging environment to film and photograph in. The bag hide blended in really well, a good choice. ive just got the Rode Wireless Go too and just getting to grips with it but hopefully it'll make the films sound a lot better( if i remember to turn it back on !!) Great film and keep up the good work 👊📷🎥

      Hi there Simon, thanks very much for taking the time to comment it’s always very much appreciated especially from a fellow naturalist and photographer 🙏👍. I must admit that bag hides been a god send over the last few months especially with sensitive subjects, and quite affordable really. The mic had some great reviews and I’ve seen many people use it so thought it’s a safe bet, shame I haven’t got the adapter for my GoPro yet! (Supply issues)🤞🏻it will arrive soon. All the best to you and thanks again. Richard 👍

      Hi there Matt, no problem it’s a lenscoat lens hide, I’ve got it as an affiliate link in my video description or you can purchase one from WEX Photovideo or other reputable retailers.
      It’s awesome and used extensively, they do a waterproof or material version, wildlife just seem to accept it and has proven a massive success to my photography. Hope this helps, all the best R :-) 👍

      Very little threats in the UK for Peregrines, unless you count humankind! Or if your live close to Gyr Falcons they would take a Peregrine if needed..

    You need a licence to photograph birds?

    • @RichardBirchett
      @RichardBirchett  Před 3 lety

      Hi Michael, for some birds in the Uk, you need a Schedule 1 Licence to photograph protected species on or around the nest. Thankfully these had fledged so I was safe enough on the legal front. Plus I do some work for the governing body so nice to keep an eye on them. Applying for a Licence for 2021. All the best R 👍
