  • How many boomers remember Jungle Jim starring Johnny Weissmuller , the show was based on the Jungle Jim newspaper comic strip. He had previously played the character in a series of sixteen theatrically released Jungle Jim feature films, which were produced soon after he retired from the Tarzan film series in 1948.
The "Jungle Jim" TV show premiered on Sept. 26, 1955 and ended its 26 episode run on March 19, 1956. It ran for 26 episodes and was produced by Screen Gems who sold it into syndication.
I paid 25 dollars for this 16mm syndicated film print 40 years ago, and it seems to have held up pretty good in storage, and was just restored by Indiana Universities film restoration project to save my collection. Hopefully the other prints will hold up as well.

Wow! Thanks for sharing! I watched this as a kid in the mid 1960s here in Australia. That opening sequence is burned into my brain.

Great TV at the time. I loved seeing these shows as a kid in the 60's. As I have gotten older, I began to see and feel that Johnny Weissmuller might have been as well as George Reeves in the role of Superman.
Don't get me wrong, George Reeves IS Superman and did a great job. My Favorite. Just saying.

@@de1ce Thanks for the reply. I asked about the plane because someone had one on the airfield in my little hometown in West Virginia, which is Princeton. Never saw it being flown, much less landing on water. That was in the 1950s. The new hospital was built where the airfield was, but the hangers are still there, used by the city.
