This is so beautifully done. I never leave comments, but this time i have to. I love how you kept true to the show and highlighted how canon they actually were despite technically being non-canon. Most all videos try to paste segments together to hightlight and force what they had, but if you just watch a scene in all its simplicity, it's right in front of your face. Well done.

This was great! If Dasey really is real honestly the entire synopsis of the show suddenly becomes very sad and tragic. Derek falls in love with the girl who becomes his new step sister, which automatically makes her off limits. Because he can't be with her, and being just her brother or friend would hurt too much, he decides to be against her. All the pranks and rude comments over the years were Derek's way of coping with not being able to be with Casey. In the last episode when Derek corrects Casey by saying they are step siblings, he is still struggling with the fact that they can only ever be siblings.

I started to watch the show recently and it was one of the first impressions I had about him lol,specially in the season 1,he is rude,teases and pranks her 24/7 but at the same time he wants to keep her in a kinda of a “dome” where she can’t be next to other boys in school except for him, the way he reacted when his best friend said he likes Casey just show how jealous he was, maybe he had that stupid thought “If I can’t have Casey nobody can”. He started being annoying,immature and spoiled, that type of kid who gets everything he wants and Casey clear example of what happens when he doesn’t get what he wants. But is really good to see his development through the show and how develops a beautiful connection with Casey. he becomes less selfish and start to actually care more about her.
You need to watch " nobody" or " the possible lives of mr.nobody" the title changes depending on the country. Is about all the possible lives a guy could have lived depending on his choices and in one of them he falls in love with his new step sister, being both late teens ( and she with him) but the parents don't allow it and well..i won't say more. The other stories are also great, really, if you haven't, watch it.

I normally have morals when it comes to shipping, no huge age difference, no incest ect but this is my only execption to the incest rule, they aren’t blood related and didn’t grow up together. It’s clear there is a lot of sexual tension between them and I am living for it.
It's not incest. As i see it, incest can't be only by blood or by emotional conection. If they had met at the age of the younger siblings and grew up as siblings creating a family bond, then that would be incestuous. But as it is , is really not. I mean if we say incest can happen only by legal connection then all those shows an movies in which a woman married a guy for x reasons but is actually in love with his brother and ends seeing him in secret, etc , would be incest too and is clearly not. That said, people need to stop shipping actual siblings who have grown up together( or have just formed a familiar bond when one was much younger than the other) even if they don't share blood...aka, .people, stop shipping thorki, is sick. And black widowxhawkeye is seriously questionable too.
Honestly same. I am guilty of shipping ships that didn't meet until they were teenagers and aren't blood related.

There's a spin-off/sequel in the works called Life with Luca. It would have Derek and his daughter move back in with Casey and her family (husband + kids, I think). Derek's daughter Skyler would have the same type of conflictual relationship with Casey's son Luca. Its kind of a repeat of Derek/Casey with their kids. What do you guys think of that?

Idk I saw an article where either Ashley or Michael said the spin off started with Derek and Casey in bed, but they didn’t elaborate.
The thing is if the show had lasted a bit longer or had come back, they would have gotten together. But fr, I'm pretty sure they ended this show because Dasey had too much Unresolved Sexual Tension.

They loved each other and Disney tried so hard to hide it but man it’s all right here
Given that there were considerations for a spin-off "Life With Derek, Again" and Michael Seater teased a scene with Derek and Casey in bed, there were some chances for it, though I would not have rated them too high...
The big problem with the show was that the actors were fully on board with the ship, while the writers were not. Which of course gets even more difficult once you throw Family Channel respectively Disney into the mix. But to my knowledge the UST was never an issue to the show runners. For those disgusted by the "incest" it was a show about a merged family and sibling relationships, because they tuned out the longing gazes and lingering touches and "forced" sibling behavior. The others were delighted by the hidden Dasey. Because let's be honest star-crossed lovers have always been appealing.
LWD was cancelled because the show had run its course. There's only so much you can do without getting repetitive or changing the status quo and risking to lose viewers. Also, the actors were getting recognizably older and with that the viewers. LWD would have been forced tackle more mature and risky topics and you just have to look at Dasey fanfiction to get an idea what topics that would likely have been. Not Disney channel friendly...
Personally I think LWD did it just right. To me, LWD is about a boy and a girl - who could be not more different - finding out they complement and perfect each other. And how they fight that emotion, because society tells them they are supposed to be something else.
It's about a girl who denies her feelings, but no matter how hard she tries with her relationships, he is her rock, always there waiting in the wings, constantly in the back of her mind. And she's clamoring to make him her brother, because then all these lurking feelings will just disappear, right, right?!
It's about a boy who knows he's attracted to his stepsister and does everything he can to push her away. He treats her horrible because if she hates him, she can't fall for him, right? He distracts himself with a constant string of largely meaningless girls, trying to get her out of his head. And he fails miserable. He cannot go the full distance to completely break her heart. He allows himself the guilty pleasure of letting fights get physical, because he's allowed to touch her then. He excuses her constant presence in his thoughts by their prank wars. There's only on thing he cannot allow: for her to become his sister. Because then he will have lost her.
I desperately want to see Derek and Casey say they love each other. The culmination of all those feelings that boiled under the surface for years would be epic. But it would be the end. The resolution of their "I just cannot have those feelings". Dasey is such a treasure because it is imperfect. It leaves you never fully sated and that's what keeps this fandom alive...

I used to watch LwD but never shipped them, in fact I didn't like Derek. But then one day me And my friends randomly started talking about childhood Disney shows like That's so raven etc. And Life with Derek came up too And I thought that was a show with stepsiblings who "hated" each other And thats the kind of couples I love and usually ship-enemies to lovers trope. But I was like but no they are step siblings/family. I didnt realize that it did matter that they DIDN'T grow together And they weren't blood related And they met much after an age where you start liking girls/boys and they were forced in the same house, unlike Lizzie and Edwin who met with they were like what 9? Or other adopted siblings who basically grow up together. Its like the current Brandon and Callie situations in the Fosters (season 1-3).
And now since around more than half a year, probably 7 months or so, I've been shipping them like crazy. 9 YEARS AFTER the show ended. Lol do you know how lonely that feels considering theres almost zero people left in the active fandom and being alone in fangirling over a ship. Most recent Tumblr posts from months to years ago.
Anyway I started off watching all their episodes and reading all the CZcams comments and realizing 99% of the people shipped them and every episode was filled with mostly Dasey comments in the comment sections- pointing out specific Dasey moments in the episode or stating theres too much UST and how they could've been canon if it wasnt on a kids show etc. etc.
And then they danced in the movie that killed me.
I then started to read fanfics and everyone was probably done with those years ago while I just got started. I'm probably done with most of the decent ones too by now.
And looking at all these comments still amazes me do people still ship Dasey even after 8 years?? I know I got over certain ships within less than 1 year after the show ended and they were my OTP.
It's like it is 2018 and I'm probably the only one hear being tortured how the sequel didnt happen or theres no second movie or so while everyone got over that years ago lol. *ugly cries*
Is there ever a hope for something new with Life with Derek? Probably never...

Yea I mean Life of Derek aired in like 2006-2010ish including the movie, I don't think it was common for people to be talking about television stuff on the internet or so compared to now because the people who use the internet and youtube now compared to before has highly increased, you can judge that just based on the number of youtube videos. When Gangam Style or something reached 1 billion views it was insane but now many popular songs are reaching over 2 billion easily. So that's why I think it's kind of harder to dig for information for past shows like this. I don't know though just assuming though.
Anyway, I saw some posts that showed Michael Seater and Ashley Leggat posted something about a fanfic podcast read in March 2018? When I first saw it I thought it was a really old post since they already did a fanfic read on Out of the Blue years ago, but then found out it this was recent. Do you know any update on that?
Also do you know if anything will become of Life with Derek reunion or any information at all or is it completely dead at this point lol? Need to know so I can stop hoping or digging around.
Katie Tulip I don't think we'll ever get a revival of the show but it's possible that we keep getting extra material if Michael and Ashley ever feel like reading more fics or filming a scene or whatever. I do think they talked about possibly doing a new fic reading, so that's something to look forward for ! :) Back in the days, we had an active forum for all things Dasey. It was so great ! And now, obviously people have moved on to other fandoms but you can definitely see that they still love Dasey. Whenever I upload a video about them, people get very nostalgic, haha.

In any other context two characters that act like these two would end up together. They just happen to be step-siblings. This is one of my original ships, along with Martin and Diana, another step pair. They have great moments but deep down during those serious moments you just know they love each other a lot. Amazing video 🙂

MsLyraGW Yes they are 🙂 They have a similar relationship to Casey and Derek. They may always be fighting a good portion of the time mostly because of how different they are. But they always have each other’s backs, protectiveness and once in a blue moon, when he lets his guard down you can tell they love and truly care about each other. Even if it is usually followed by something funny or stupid lol. Sorry for this long response your welcome it was amazing 🙂
