      AI chorfs just like me. Get a dreaquake stack and go play with my spellcasters, then I look back at my army and my infantry is absolutely decimated and I see some mortars dropping on my own bois.

    Spellcasters being able to throw spells while being in combat is probably the most awesome part of totalhammer. Teclis fighting an aerial duel and throwing chain lightning on goons marching beneath is peak badass.

    In a defensive seige restocking ammo isn't cheese, I mean it makes sense that you have plenty of ammo in your city

      Well attacker also probably has time to restock/make new arrows, sieges were long endurance runs.

      @@belisarian6429 The issue with that is that the siege battles are attackers trying to storm the settlement. The siege part is what happens during end turns. Need to keep in mind that a turn is equivalent to atleast 1-2 weeks if not more. So attackers will not have time to restock any resources during the attack.

    There’s a tactic among artillery officers known as “open-the-door, close-the-door”, where you permit a certain amount of force to advance into your kill zone, then engage fires on the middle of their column in advance to prevent further entry, allowing friendly forces to destroy the enemy, while filling EN communications and command effort with what are in fact unimportant contacts and shots.
    Legend has again demonstrated some excellent tactical comprehension.

    re: skirmish mode. It might be an off-by-one error. Based on this video, the 'first' missile unit of each type in the garrison is getting the default setting ignored for skirmish mode. So the code is cycling through all units of a type, but skipping the first one because of how that's handled in code. (Zero vs One indexed arrays). I'll have to keep an eye out for the next time it happens to me in a game.

      I mean, so many people have worked on the frankenstein of an engine that is TWH 3, there's probably zero chance they're following a consistent standard even in regards to something as simple as array indexing

    I remember a while back I tried Realms of Chaos as Kislev. Going into the late game I was getting bored and invaded the Chorfs, smashed 3/4 of their empire and half a dozen armies of mixed quality. Suddenly out of the fog Drazo-Lad rolls up with 6 dreadquake mortors, 10 destroyers, and elite chorf inf. Wreaked a couple of my armies before I managed to autoresolve with 3v1

      @@saltedllama2759 did you retry since release? If you play as Kislev (Katarina), it is actually a great story and experience now. Sure, it does not have as much replayability value, but I had a blast as Kislev, forcing back the forces of chaos and freeing Ursun. It's improved a ton since release.

    Solid video and defense! Made me miss siege defence fights until i remembered just holding the hill and ignoring every other part of the map is king. Always learn something when watching one of your videos though so thanks !

    It looked like one of the routed units got stuck in the breach of the wall and since only one unit can pass through a breach at a time, the mortars were waiting in line to enter instead of making a new breach. I suspect it also connects to each ladder on the wall counting as a "breach", so the AI doesn't waste too much time making breaches everywhere, but of course ladders are impassable for vehicles, so only that one breach was available.
    Just a guess, of course.

      That building right behind the breach also seemed to protrude, maybe that messed up the big entities' pathfinding (stuck on "use that breach" while it was actually not passable for them).

    3:15 Just want to mention that controlled fire is an actual tactic against wildfires. It's used to stop the wildfire from spreading by burning down an area preemptively.

      1.) That isn't what he was talking about. You still don't "put out a fire with more fire" when using controlled burns. That's preventing fire from spreading, not putting out fires. If you use a flamethrower on an existing fire, it won't do anything. THAT is what he's talking about (and I think you knew that).
      2.) Don't be the "actually" guy on the internet who can't understand metaphors or even jokes.

    Dreadquakes are the reason why I always try to bring at least one decent flyer/harasser with my that I can use to blob enemy infantry and have them nuke their own troops. This is especially effective when you are the attacker and also have some arty, since the AI tends to hand out near their initial position with all their troops really close together and willing to jump onto your one flier that you either land in their midst, or hover nearby (dreadquakes also try to shoot flying units, which you can abuse if you can estimate the ballistics of it - this way you can do it with a single Gryobomber instead of some allied recruitment single entity flyer)

    One time I was playing lizardmen and the vampire counts came at my walled settlement. They split up their forces in three, and I realized that a concentration of force would be bad. All three heroes would bunch up and destroy me. So, I split my army up in three groups, each one tailored to each threat. When I beat one enemy group, they’d rush to help the others. I won and only lost two units total. Concentration of forces doesn’t always equate to the best outcome!

    Player, Teclis on a phoenix could defeat those armies alone with just the shadow warrios if he had his sword and life leeching. Cast after cast he can flock of doom everything. Once he has his phoenix and reaches max physical resistance to be able to melee with strong flying lords all the loremaster needs are 2/4 shadow warriors. It counters hard infantry destroyers factions like chorfs.

      Teclis on the Phoenix is almost a one-man doomstack if he has his sword and lore passives. Only Kairos and the Cathayan Dragons are better at it, due to the ward save they can stack.

      @@torquevonthorne948Most of Tzeentch’s spells and units have their own flavor of improved Flaming Attack (which also debuffs Armor). So even if his attack doesn’t have it, Kairos should have access to it for sure.

    I found out about not using infantry against Dreadquake mortars the hard way.
    I sent a bunch of orc big uns and they still got rekt.
    Luckily I had 3 regiments of ratling guns.
    Saved by the allied recruitment.

    Last time I played Teclis, my strongest army was just him and four heroes, two dragon riding wizards, mostly for fun, one loremaster, who standed in a corner just ot have someone on the ground and then one handmaiden for the same reason truth to be told.
    At the beginning I wanted to make just a jolly band of heroes together destroying evil, but at the end... Teclis is just so powerfull lord, that he soloed everyone and everything....

    I have had that happen a few times on big siege fights. If I have some lords away from the rest of my army but then move them back a portion of the enemy that usually includes their lord just stays outside and never choses a new target. In a couple of those cases I even came outside after the rest of their army was dead and stood in a circle around them and they still did not move.

    The dreadquakes are just sitting there distraught about the friendly fire. They might technically be unbreakable in terms of morale, but it seems to have shattered them regardless haha

      Fighting fire with fire is actually extremely effective. It's often the only way to stop large fire. He should've used a different analogy, especially since he basically used the enemy's fire against them in this battle, lol.

      Yep! Depriving wildfires of fuel is about the only way to stop them. Water is saved for structure defense (on ones deemed saveable - better keep your land cleared) and even some of that is saved just in case it is needed to avoid burning alive.

    The skirmish thing isn't just in sieges. I think it's an issue of reinforcements. I've often seen it in field battles.

      They’re a tier 5 unit, expensive, and fire incredibly slow-dodging their shots is rather easy.

      They also suck at taking out large monsters like Carnosaurs or Shagoth’s. They are fast enough to dodge the shots and strong enough to destroy them in melee.

    hey guys! i have been looking for information but didnt found anything, Im currently playing as dark elves and a lord just got not-loyal and rebels, so when I defeated him, the army that did it was 18/20, and after a battle that army got a Artillery Unit from the dark elves roster. You can get units if you defeat a traitor army playing as dark elves? Or is just a bug?

      If I remember right, when you defeat forces of the same race and they have an artillery piece, you have a chance to gain it after the battle. It's another one of those hidden features of the game.

    Had a disaster battle yesterday, but I use mods so it would be an invalid offering.
    Damaged Empire stack in a freshy captured city, with one turn of garisson, defending against close on three stacks of Skaven, with Throt.

    I think they got stuck because of the combination of the ladders breaking their plan, and that one gap probably having a bit of a glitch where they can't fit those big units through.

    pushing the limits of the game, finding loopholes or exploits to gain an advantage is a great habit and you everyone should do it. and i'm not talking about just the game if you can push the limits of ai in this game, you can push the limits of the rules for tabletop wh (or any tabletop game for it's worth) and if you can push the limits of the rules you can do that irl as well. you can gain so much by just asking

      Sieges are not rewording when it comes to walls. In most scenarios you dont need to defend them.
      On great book of grudges yt channel I saw video yesterday about new sieges maps for capital faction cities. They ware beautifull gigantic and well designed. That artillery spot on the walls in karaz a karak... Just love it. My pc will burn on that maps though.

      In my opinion it's more about making the right call when to give them up. 99% of the time you can place units there but as soon as the ladders are on its almost always best to just pull your units back to the chokes.

    I'm playing an admittedly modded campaign of high elves in total warhammer 2 right now, and at least the dwarf ai was smart enough to move their grudge throwers past my single entity distraction and attack my archers despite them being out of range. Crazy how CA can't match up to either their previous coding or the coding of free mods.

      In my experience artillery almost never just stops and fights whatever is sttacking it, it tries to escape

    the auto resolve vastly over estimates the effectiveness of walls in sieges. Valiant defeat in siege defense is nowhere near the difficulty to valiant defeat in field on average.

    I belive that the skirmish is only toggled on the garrison ranged units, because "Not player recruited unit" therefor not a unit that uses player settings. But then again what do I know 🤔🤔🤣🤣

    Dread quakes are such a broken unit you could nerf it by 50% and it still would be OP
    If AI stacks them (and it always does in lategame) you are basically obliged to cheese them in some form and that's on top of all the other OP stuff the chorfs get

      They are expensive and their shoots are easy to dodge. In melee even if they are attached to an iron demon they will lose against a mid tier anti-large unit like silverin guards.

      They are super easy to dodge, waste the ammunition of, and derp out. Also, cheese is a tactic used by every great general in military history. There is no such thing as a "fair" fight in war.

      They're definitely very powerful but only against infantry.
      Against single entity monster armies they're basically useless.

      @@inductivegrunt94 It's as Legend has said countless times recently: there's no 'best' artillery, they each specialise in being great against usually one specific thing. Dreadquakes will wreck infantry heavy armies but will do basically nothing to a rite of primeval glory army.

    What’s funny about Dreadquake Mortars to me is that, while they they are quite powerful, they’re borderline redundant, considering Chaos Dwarfs have tons of ways to deal with masses of infantry, yet not that many against single entities. I think the Deathshriek cannon (or whatever it’s called, I forgot) with the single target shots is much more useful.

      If I recall correctly, the best way to deal with large single entities is just mass gunfire/arrow rain (also works with small single entities when you manage to isolate them).
      But in case of 70-90% ward save bastartds like Archaon and Sigvald, your best bet is just army losses, otherwise you just risk running out of ammo.

    has skirmish mode ever been useful in a TW game?
    It's a crutch for people who don't have the apm to micro and not a very good crutch (as it should be)

      Skirmish is so bad in this game you might as well let the unit fight in melee. It works in such a way that they unit will probably get stuck in melee in a loop of trying to retreat, dealing no damage at all. It was not total trash in WH2 because infantry were slower, and you could outrun their charge speed on fast units, but in WH3, this is rarely the case.

    I hope with the next TW game they rework fortifications to you know, fortify. I get why, but the Warhammer trilogy got too arcadey. A massive castle doesn't give you an advantage anymore, and 80% of the space and key points are useless.
    We definitely need concentric walls. In M2TW you could actually execute a multiple tier defense that felt reasonable. Attackers had to plan out their siege engines to conserve them for the second and third lines.

    They should add free units to Bretonnia, Vamp Pirates and Tomb Kings. Their rosters are so empty and in Bretonnia's case boring as hell at least TK and VP were full race DLC's in WH2 where Bretonnia felt like an afterthought and have never been Ignored for ages. I want to play Bretonnia but then realise they have literally nothing but cavalry and there is so much cheap or good (sometimes both) anti large even the good Cav are underwhelming.

    Let it be known that we came from rome1 sieges (which of course werent perfect at all) to these. Almost 20 years of technology advance. For 0 improvement, and dare i call it a downgrade :)

    Druzhina(Дружина) translates like a squad united by friendship. Because of word Друг(friend) and verb Дружить (be friends/ have a friendship). They’re were the closest guardian squad to tsar or knyaz. Usually they are heavily armoured unbreakable cavaliers.
    Your “druzhina” is much like Caucasian Ataman.(actual name of your generic lord)
    Please spread it.
    It likes to call orc’s unit of goblin like “Great Sultan”

    hello Legend, i'm realy not sure you will able to see this but i'm really upset about CA work on TWW3 in general... the fact that IA is 3yo smart, the bugs even without mods, the unmovable IA cheats and even the fact that IA recruitment and buildings are not normal and can do whatever they want... i like so much this type of game, plus i'm a huge fan of warhammer old world, i've played about 2K hours on TWW2/3 but i can play it anymore... this game is too much broken to have fun on it... why CA does nothing? why influent people like you don't complain more about that crap? i know its not the same games but look how larian done a game way more perfect and finished even its only the beginning... CA looks like Nintendo when making efforts on their games... i'm soo sad about it

      Hey mate, I completely feel your frustrations with this game and the franchise in general. The people in the partner program with connections to CA do complain quite often and sometimes quite loudly. We are most of the time dismissed or ignored. If you go further and criticize the actual company you will be removed from the program. Influencers have no influence over CA.
      You have to make your own voices heard by complaining on forums like reddit. Do so as respectfully as you can and never call out specific developers. Other than that vote with your wallet. Never pre order anything and do not join the hype train. Make them sweat and be unsure of whether a particular piece of content is going to sell so that they do the best they can.
