- Continuation of a tour of Scotland by rail in the early 1960s, by the local service of the southernmost part of the West Highland Line. This "residential" service was to be withdrawn later in the decade.

I will never get fed up watching these. Narration by the missus is excellent.
Famous for the especially adapted 'push and pull' steam locomotive on this service.
What a fascinating piece of film. This is my local line and it was so interesting to see stations which are no longer there (Rhu, Shannon, Whistlefield and Glen Douglas). Thank you for sharing.
Ok I'm stunned. You can see my old house in front of two cranes at the ship breakers yard. This was before the sub base expanded. The spur for the ship breakers
went right past us and was still in use in 1980 when we moved in. (Huge thrill every Friday when they brought the loco down to pick up scrap) It was nice to see how
the countryside looked like before it was messed around by the MOD. Where I now live is a stones throw away from Rhu station which just has some loose bricks
of the old platform remaining. Also interesting is seeing the other lost stations particularly Glen Douglas which was closed due to the expansion of the armament
depot (you can see them digging out the bunkers in the fields next to the track) Anyhoo thank you for sharing, a great bit of local history.
Alan & Heather - I've just discovered your treasure-trove of films. Like several of your viewers, I'm also part of that certain generation who remember travelling several of these long-closed lines that you filmed. All I had was my memories and a few fuzzy slides to remind of those days, but you've brought them back to life! Thank you so much.

I never knew the West Highland trains went into Craigendoran Junction then reversed out again.
I think Whistlefield would be well-used today.
A really good CZcams contribution, for which I thank you. We will miss these station buildings when the Network Rail obsession with demolishing history has prevailed!

I was at Faslane in the '70's. we had to cross the branch to get to the gymn. The MOD police acted as crossing keepers. I later worked with drivers who drove the scrap trains.
I see a shot of Garelochhead TA base. I was there for a few days during a dockyard strike guarding some supply trucks. Spent most of the time in the mess getting refreshed courtesy of a Glasgow TA unit.

Your Cine Films you made are excellent! Certainly had the right idea, would you know about cine films made by late Peter Scott? Peter was a wonderful man died to early, Peter was T.O. at VSC, moved to Three Bridges. VSC had a very high signalling failure rate, ASE was 'Wrong man for the job'had to be paid off, replacement narcissistic told by Chairman BR Board that he was to be sacked in 6 months time unless failure rate dropped, bought in Man from Swanley led a task force team, found lots of equipment faults reduced failure rate.
you are so lucky to have made these journeys at this time, did you ever go to crystal palace high level before closure in 1954?
Yes I did, but at that time I had yet to start using a film camera.
