    Too many people run that stop sign. I was a school bus driver and it scared me to let the kids out! If there was traffic I waited with the stop sign out for the first car to stop, then it felt safer to let the kids out. But when there was no traffic was when a car would come out of no where and blow through the flashing stop sign! Thank God none of my kids ever got hit!

      *is this LAW STILL IN EFFECT, BEING 2019? B'CUZ BOTH DIRECTIONS MUST STOP IN MANY STATE LAWS. I WISH THEY WOULD ALL MAKE IT CONSISTENT ACROSS THE BOARD. NO STOPPING EITHER DIRECTION UNTIL THE FLASHING LIGHTS HAVE STOPPED & THE BUS BEGINS DRIVING.*

    @wspgovandmedia Glad you posted this. Thanks for doing your part to raise awareness of the need to stop for school bus red lights. So many people just blow right by when I'm loading and unloading. While it's true that a lot of people just don't care, to be fair, I don't think it's taught in driver's ed courses...at least not in the behind-the-wheel portion (it wasn't when I learned to drive). Some people probably just don't know (not that that's any excuse).

    The law for the 3 lane example shown is different in some states. In that case in Indiana ALL lanes stop when school bus stops. In Kentucky the law is about the same. In kentucky I stopped on a 4 lane going the other way and was passed by a school bus who did not stop. I was going by Indiana law (where I live) and later checked with a police oficer and was told I did not have to stop in that case.The officer did not know the law was different in Indiana until I told him.

  • @mspianoplayer53
    @mspianoplayer53 Před 9 lety +18

    Well that explains it well. Now for the bus that had the amber lights on in front of me, I slowed down. He stopped and I drove even more slowly expecting the red flashers at any time but they were still not on when I came up to him. When I was almost past him he put the flashers on and then honked at me. Entrapment. He had hundreds of feet between me and him when he first pulled over that he could have put the red flashers on. This video merely says to "prepare to stop" when you see amber. Maybe the bus drivers need an education too.

    • @mspianoplayer53
      @mspianoplayer53 Před 9 lety

      ***** No, and I would have contested it if he tried. I'm not sure why he didn't put his lights on earlier or why he honked at me when I finally passed him...

      +Jeff Crouch No. I stop for school buses. I would have stopped for that one too if he'd indicated he was picking up kids by putting on the red lights, and not just taking a short break or waiting until I passed to put them on.

      +Jo Clark it just happened to me today. I was literally 5 ft away when the bus driver popped the sign then honked the horn at me. I couldn't stop that quickly. I do obey the rules. Just waiting to see if I'll have to fight a ticket.

      Yes Rose, section C-11 in our PA School Bus Drivers manual, Figure C-4 drivers stopping for a school bus at intersection...All traffic must stop when red lights activated. And what the driver is trained if we see another vehicle disobeying these laws: is to try our best to warn students before they attempt to cross the highway; Note the license plate number, color and type of the vehicle;time and location of the incident;and identity of the driver (as much as we can tell). We must deliver a signed, written report containing this information within 48 hours to the state or local police with jurisdiction where the incident occurred. And for anyone interested, When someone is convicted of violating Pennsylvania's school bus stopping law, they will receive a 60-day driver's license suspension, five points on their driving record and a $250 fine, plus court costs. Don't believe what I wrote here? Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, www.dmv.state.pa.us...have good days ahead.

    Are laws requiring drivers to stop for school buses necessary? And NO, this is not meant to be a heartless question. If you read the Wikipedia.org page on school bus traffic laws, outside of Canada and the USA, drivers are NOT required to stop for school buses, but merely have to reduce speed. If that is acceptable in those countries, why not in North America? I can think of 2 ways of keeping kids safe when boarding/departing school buses. 1) The school bus always stops on the side of the road that a child is entering/exiting from, which avoids the child crossing the road. 2) The bus driver escorts each child entering or leaving the bus, perhaps holding the child's hand. It's worth considering, especially if so many other nations do not require stopping for school buses. This would save time for other vehicles on the road.

    Im really nervous that i might get a ticket. When i was driving i didnt notice the hazard lights because it was broad day light, and didnt realize the bus putting out the stop sign until i was alongside the bus. At that moment, I thought about it considering it was a 4 lane highway, but i was also going the same direction. Not to mention that there was a car in front of me, it was either slam on my breaks or keep going. The car in front of me didnt bother since we were both alongside the bus, so we continued on. While the first driver got away with it, I got beeped at. I now realize that i should of stopped but in reality, i was thinking it be best not to slam on my breaks, and considering it was a 4 lane highway, no kid is going to cross. Also, i think it partly the bus drivers duty to make sure the people alongside the bus go by before putting up the stop sign.

    i take the school bus sometimes and I for one found it inconsiderate that school buses have stop signs. they stop all the traffic even on intrastate highways just to pick up some kid on the shoulder. I used to get on the school bus that the door was 2 feet away from me and they would stop all the traffic. If it was up to me I would make it so buses would pull over to the side of the road to pick up a kid not sit in it. It was no wonder to me why people got fed up with that. I know that I did and I wish school buses were more like city buses. At least they move out of the way. When i grow up i am never stopping

    $394.00? How do these legislators come up with such arbitrary fine amounts? Why not just make it an even 400 and call it a day. Maybe it's because 3 hundred and ninety four dollars takes longer to say and therefore sounds like more money than 4 hundred?

    • @PoopiandBoobi
      @PoopiandBoobi Před 8 lety +2

      because it might have been $300 to start with. Inflation drives it up to $303, over the years it eventually gets to $394.
      If they increase it more than inflation (say inflation drives it up by $3 but they want a good number so $5) then people will complain they are raising the fine
      if they increase it less they will make less money

    Wait hold up. It's a STOP SIGN not a red light. So why are they all waiting?!?! It could become more of a hazard on a given road that doesnt have any stop lights or signs that a school bus pulls over onto causing every car to completely stop on the road (not even ambulances with their emergency lights on have this ability).
    Example: A school bus causes 10 cars to completely stop and wait on a road that doesnt have any stop signs or lights and the 11th car (or any typical driver who hates traffic) decides to go through the middle or opposite lane because it's "clear" which then is more susceptible to hitting a car or kid being that he'll most likely be speeding to get around and not paying attention and of course in the wrong lane.

      commonconservative are you being rude to be funny, like you’re not actually trying to be mean? I don’t get it? I also don’t get the reply, she was wondering why the cars have to stop entirely like it’s a red light when it’s a stop sign and flashing lights which usually indicate stop and then proceed with caution.
      Plus what she’s saying is so true, people are impatient in traffic if they’re ten cars back and don’t know why there are a bunch of cars stopped and try and get around it, it’s more likely an accident will happen that way.
      I guess I just don’t understand why the two of you responded like you did, the first response basically reiterated what was originally said...

    I know it's a whole liability issue that prevents a driver from just dropping a kid off and allowing them to get across themselves. So why not just get rid of that policy or better yet drive to the other side of the street :0. I can understand having people having to wait for elementary school kids to be crossed, but kids in middle school and up should be with it enough to cross themselves. Just think of how much money and fuel is wasted idling a bus while crossing kids each year.

      Did you watch the video??? You DO NOT have to stop on a roadway with 3 or more lanes, even if one of those lanes is a turn lane, provided you are not travelling in the same direction as the bus... I hate when traffic stops in the opposite direction because the people in front are idiots and do not know the freaking law.

      Chris Lightball. You need to watch the video over again.

      Are you dense? You only have to stop for the bus on a road of 3 or more lanes if you are traveling in the SAME direction as the bus... I.E. Behind it... Fast forward to about the 2:30 mark and pay attention this time.

      my bad. The information in this video is different than in Georgia. This is just in WAshington. different states has different rules. For the most part, if the 4 lanes road does not have a "separator ?", you cant cross the bus on either side.

    Yes, this is Probably one of the dumbest and most ridiculous traffic laws we ever invented. "Protect our children" - well, why wont you just teach your children to not jump in front of traveling vehicles instead of stopping all traffic every few yards?

    • @hauptmann_ivan
      @hauptmann_ivan Před 5 lety

      or actually set up crossings than jamming up the whole traffic for like a minute

  • @samlung2724

    what a smart idea, create traffic by dropping off kids in the middle of the road that has cars going like 40- 50mph

  • @sunshine19967

    It's all fake. If it was real, then the driver would jump into action. why would they show it if it was real.

      Oceanbrave if you think that is steep. try getting pulled over in a tractor trailer truck
      you're gonna immediately realize that what you think is steep is actually a Minor

      I drove school buses in Long Beach CA where we were required walk out first to the middle of the street amd hold up a stop sign as the kids crossed because the school bus lights and stop sign aren't enough. I was almost hit once or twice a day. So NO, it's not steep at all.

      Where I live it's $5000 and a suspended license and that's the way it should be. Never seen someone pass I stopped bus where I live and never heard of such a problem on the news. Hell people even slow down when a bus is at a stop sign to let them go even though they have the right away. (Although this could actually be dangerous.)

      I dont think its enuff!!!!! What would you think if your child had been hit by a car at a school bus stop by someone who COMPLETELY IGNORED THE STOP SIGNS???? This kind of crap is right up there with texting & driving !!!! They both suck & they NEED TO STOP !!!!!! OH & " OCEANBRAVE" THERE IS NOTHING MINOR ABOUT YOUR CHILD BEING HIT BY AN IRRESPONSIBLE DRIVER...!!!! THINK ABOUT IT !!!!!
