I cannot tell you what a game changer the warm water tip was. I’d been sipping ice cold water for 3 days straight as a way to relieve the pain.. and after watching this video I switched to warm water.. instantly noticed a difference. Mucus came out, throat felt clearer, and 36 hours later my voice has started to return.
This is how my sickness went:
    1. Three day cold//allergy attack with dry/swollen throat
    2. Near the end of that I used my voice a lot for work and leisure
    3. Two days of raspy voice, overused it during those two days
    4. Voice completely gone
    5. Around 4-4.5 full days of recovery, whispering, not being able to communicate. Painful swelling and irritation
    6. Those last 2 days I drank warm water and it came back today, should be much better tomorrow
Thanks for the vid man. 2nd time I’ve had acute laryngitis in my life but this time was much worse

@@TerenceFisher1 Thanks much man. My voice is mostly back today, I just have to watch my volume and there’s still some throat pain
One thing I can’t figure out how to get rid of is throat swelling at night, I wake up multiple times from 1-6am with a painful swelling.. it’ll obviously blow over one of these days, but I can’t figure out what to do to mitigate it. I’m already doing salt water before bed to clear mucus, but I guess the laying down sleeping position I have just allows for that build up and swelling

Thank you so much Sensei. I am a tenor, and I come from a line of tenors. And, I gargle with salt. Also, I boil brown sugar, vanilla, boil . Then I sliced ginger root. Use an equal ratio to sugar/ ginger. Boil for 20 minutes. Then you can use ginger for candy or add it to the tea. If you strain out the ginger. Place on parchment paper and either freeze or fridge overnight. My voice is so messed up. I hate having to communicate by sign language or write. This information is golden. The ginger elixir is slowly working. But, there are also steroids. But, I tuned into an instant Ahole. Roid rage😮
I am trying to create a Rock opera. The old days when the midnight movie was a right of passage. But, that doesn't exist in Geritol city San Diego 😅

I drink Throat Coat, 4-6 cups
    I drink warm water
I sleep with a humidifier on my nightstand
    Limit talking unless necessary
Steam Vocals by boiling a pot of water, put a towel over your head and breathe in that steam for about 10-15 min.
I’m suffering from allergies right now and made me hoarse. 🤦🏽‍♀️

I'm allot hoarse and i sing for allmost 30 years. The thing i learned from experiences is.... Talk verry sharp and not whispery when you talk through out the day. Eat eg yokes as much as possible it's like a vitamin for the vocal cords. And before singing drinking some warm tea with a fresh slize of lemon in it. Always eat the lemon in the end. The lemon really makes a world of difference on the same moment same day. Try it even out when your not hoarse it gives more power and ease when singing. Don't eat 3 hours before going to sleep also a game changer for the people suffering from acid reflux for years like me. Allot of sleep and a good vocal warm up before singing is verry important. It's important to warm up without trying to sing loud.
    Greetings from Belgium folks ✌️

I have acid reflux. While sleeping, the stomach acid can migrate into your throat and make you hoarse the next day. I find that using a “wedge” pillow, or an additional regular pillow, to keep your head and neck higher than your chest, really helps. And I stay away from alcohol and caffeine before and during gigs, as these trigger acid reflex.

    Great video!
Whenever I’m horse or have a cold and I have to perform or have solos, (especially during the winter months) I put a large pot of rolling boiling water with a bag of mint tea.
I then take a beach towel with my arms and cover my head and a perimeter of six inches around the pot of boiling water. I allow a distance of about 2-2.5 feet above the pot of boiling water to prevent scalding my face and arms. (Distance between a person and the pot of boiling water may vary depending on the height of the person. Be mindful and cautious of not only the hot pot of boiling water, the stove top and steam, but also the towel over your head and its position over the the stove.)
Then for about five minutes, I slowly take a DEEP breath in through my noise, out through my mouth four times. Then the same slow deep breaths in through my mouth and out through my noise, while keeping the soft palette lifted and the back of the throat expanded(like your yawning) to maximize effectiveness of this procedure.
I repeat this two or three times a day depending on severity of my symptoms or the the impending vocal obligation.
I use mint in this procedure because it’s a natural antibiotic. Fresh mint is even better if it’s available.
All three variations of this home remedy can have the potential to see tremendous results regarding faster recovery time for vocal chords and possibly chest and sinus congestion.

I've tried the almond milk. I've found that it does not affect your voice at all like dairy milk because it's plant based. You can drink it warm with honey or agave syrup. You're right you have to drink warm drinks and avoid talking. Since I can't drink tea of any kind caffeinated or decaffeinated, I drink warm honey water instead and drink room tempature water too. Thanks for the info. I appreciate you.

There is an exercise to recover voice. Make compressed air out of your vocal cords that won't touch each other and won't make any sound/vibration(it gonna make a sound that almost similar to the ultrasound/balloon has little leak). It's making vocal cords stretch safe way... Do it less than minute and just don't talk for few hours... And do it again for less than a minute and don't talk again... And check it for better results extending no talk time or extending this exercise.

I have been having issues with my voice ever since I had COVID Dec. 2019. Now I've had to have Botox shots for the last year every 3 months so I can talk. These are so painful and now I'm too disabled to even get to the hospital. Now I'm supposed to get a shot this week, and due to the fact that I'm having issues with the hips due to Stage 4vbreast cancer mets to the bones, I have no way to get there. I did go through vocal therapy but now 8 will try again. I found out on a local news channel this happens to long COVID people as well. I loved your tips on keeping the voice warm. I'm gonna see if I do that and keep recovering from cancer and long COVID if I can get rid of this problem. I also put infared light on the throat. I will ge keeping it warmer thanks to your advice.

    • @TerenceFisher1
      @TerenceFisher1  Před 3 lety +2

So the best thing you can do for laryngitis is to give your voice lots and lots of rest! Do not speak unless you need to, and if you need to speak, do so at very low tones. Also, drink lots of fluids, namely water. Sip warm teas like green tea to help with any symptoms you may be having.
That said, it is always a good idea to see a doctor if you can. They can prescribe antibiotics and such that will likely speed your recovery. If you have laryngitis longer than a couple of weeks, I would definitely see a doctor. Hope this helps...
