  • Today we are looking through a number of hammered and milled coins from before during and after the English Civil War. Featuring the coins of Charles I, Oliver Cromwell and then Charles II. With the roundheads fighting the cavaliers resulting in the Commonwealth of England and then the eventual restoration of the monarchy these coins help tell the story of this period.

    I was so engrossed with this video, I didn't want it to stop. The coins you put on show made my eyes pop, especially the Oliver Cromwell half crown. I've never seen one with them being so rare. It was the 🌟 of the show. I'd love to see a second video of Civil war coins. Thank you so much for showing such beautiful pieces of history 😉

    More stunning coins and I enjoyed the history behind each one. I only have one hammered coin, an Elizabeth 1st sixpence, but I'd love to have more. Great video

    Are these hammered coins with the straight edges the way they come out of the process - or does this indicate there have been 'nibbles' on the edges - either given as change - or deviously taken to produce a supply of precious metal for other purposes back in the day.

    • @BritanniaCoinCompany
      @BritanniaCoinCompany  Před 2 lety

      That was a big issue with coins prior to the addition of the milled edges and that could be one reason. There could be others for example damaged when being dug up etc. -CC

    I may be wrong but I think that first coins king looks scrapped off, doesn't look like natural wear considering the quality on thr legend, great vid!
