I had itchy, scaley, red skin in my nose folds that peeled off when scratched for. years. Until i started a consistent skincare routine, then it was gone. i always assumed it was something fungal because it came and went and was localized in the skin folds only.
now the skin in my nose folds looks a bit scarred, theres a slight texture difference, but it's not red or itchy anymore

Zinc soap cleared up my back and chest from little red spots I had for years that never went away with acne ingredients. Only thing is now it dries my skin out like crazy if I don't moisturize fast enough. Also my arms started getting weird rashes lately I'm not sure if the soap is getting on them and causing it or what. But for yeast this ingredient saved my life lol.

A video I've been looking forward to! Of course, after hearing this, I think I have every disease you mentioned! All I know is I'm wicked itchy up there and I can't tell if it's because highly fragrant shampoos are incredibly irritating or I have something more serious. I don't think it's dandruff. If it is or it's not, my options are limited. I have yet to find a fragrance-free, color-safe shampoo that doesn't dry out my scalp. Free and Clear, even with the conditioner, turned my scalp into the desert and it's not recommended for color-treated hair. Head Shoulders color-safe and regular contain lots of irritants - cinnamal, limonene, linalool, menthol, lemon, eucalyptus. As it slips down my body, it irritates it. If you know of a moisturizing, fragrance-free shampoo that works for those of us that are itchy, sensitive and need to keep gray away, I'm all ears. If not, there's a gap in the market and you should invent a product. I'll take 10 bottles!

Thanks for letting us know how to use a dandruff shampoo. I literally used to leave mine on my head for under a minute. Update on some products I got. I tried a Tuscany candle. I got a tropical fruity one and it didn’t burn cleanly, smelled almost smoky and irritated my airway passages. Fruity ones I have from Yankee burn so cleanly and you can only smell the fruits themselves. Too bad because the price was amazing at Kroger. Also, I got the Colorscience Sun forgettable Body Shield hoping I could use it also on the face. Conclusion: it is NOT for the face. It has a strong flowery/powder smell that could be nice on the body but not near the nose. It is pretty white for the face, and too matte for my taste (although some might enjoy the matter-ish finish). The good: it spreads very thinly, not heavy at all. It is “almost” a whipped powdery creamy consistency. I know, my fault, since for the body it is very good with all these features. If I keep it, it will last me forever using on the tops of my hands.

Hi! As always, this type of video is very informative. From now on, if I see this ingredient in a product I will no longer have the fear of making a bad choice. This ingredient will not cure the problem but will help control it. I had no idea before of the effectiveness of sulphide, urea or many other products. I think it is important to know why one product should be used more than another. It is easier to make an informed choice. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!

Great information, I had seen probably 20 doctors and only 1 mentioned folliculitis on my leg. I had to find out myself I had malassezia folliculitis/fungal acne, all over me at one point, but can't use most products since I'm sensitive to fragrances. Vinegar for 15-30 sec at the start of my shower helped the surface but didn't help the hair follicles/pores. Sulfur soaps helped but had a side affect of causing 1-2 different kind of pimple, not sure how. But I stumbled upon Free & Clear that has a fragrance free anti-dandruff shampoo containing zinc pyrithione. Super happy with zinc, it's definitely the most effective yet gentle active ingredient for fungal acne (malassezia).

I have dreadlocks (locs) and have always struggled with itchy flaking since a long time before I locked my hair.
Recently I realized it is seborrheic dermatitis and began using the Vanicream zinc pyrythione anti-dandruff shampoo (“scalp mask”). It is the best shampoo I’ve ever used on my locs! And it seems to even be reducing the buildup in the lengths of my locs! My locs are softer and fluffier than ever before! I haven’t noticed any dryness to my hair shafts either. I’ve been using for 6 weeks.
I may try this shampoo to my body to see if it reduces the itchiness I sometimes experience.
SO glad I found this “scalp mask.” It is a game-changer!

Dr. Drey please please please do a video on blotting papers for oily shiny skin! I am a 26 year old woman who has had horrible cystic acne and Rosacea beginning from age 11. I have been to countless dermatologists, taken antibiotics, been on Accutane twice, and have been religiously using Differin and Benzoyl Peroxide since I was 12 years old. I have been binge watching your videos for the past month and made huge changes! I have switched to simple drug store products and it has really helped my skin. Recently I realized one of the biggest triggers for my rosacea was Avobenzone and so I switched from the Neutrogena dry touch to the Cereve AM SPF. However since I have done this my skin is now incredibly shiny! Like so super shiny I look like my face is perpetually wet or I was caught in an olive oil rain storm. I have stopped using makeup since watching you (a big step for me) so I have no way to cover the shinyness. However this morning after allowing the SPF to sink in for about 15 minutes I used some blotting papers on my face to reduce the shine and it worked wonders! My skin looked great and I could actually go to work with a normal looking face. However, now I am worried that the blotting papers may have removed my SPF or might make me break out…Please help!!

    • @ParadigmBeauty
      @ParadigmBeauty Před 5 lety +3

Jamie Cowan I am not a dermatologist, so I would wait for Andrea's confirmation, but I have been a makeup artist for many years. The blotting papers such as Clean & Clear made with the polypropylene film should only absorb the excess oil on your skin, and leave your skincare products and/or makeup undisturbed.

Use niacinamide for three months at least, ordinary deciem is great. You will see another life changing difference . Watch her videos, it balances the skin. It did for me. :)

Dr. Dray, would it be acceptable to use Zinc Pyrithione in the shower (in the folds of my skin - where I am susceptible to yeast rashes) prior to applying prescription Ketoconazole Cream 2% onto those same areas after completely dry? I have chronic yeast due to PCOS.

Hello Dr.Dray, Can I use head and shoulders shampoo on my face?, I have facial seborrheic dermatitis and I tried using it before and it gave me a lot of blackheads, after watching your video i'm tempted again to try it.

I have used the VaniCream Z Bar before for acne on my face, & it worked wonders but recently I have started using the DermaHarmony Pyrithione Zinc Bar to save some money & it's had the same affect. I recently (tmi coming) have been suffering with underarm acne & had to get an infected abscess cut & drained (which was so painful). To aid in the healing I have been washing under my arms in the shower with the Pyrithione Zinc Bar (as well as doing hot compresses) & the issue seems to be getting better. Not sure of the science behind it but I hope it continues working.

Dr. Dray - thank you for this video. I have Seborrheic dermatitis. My scalp has become oily, red and scaly. I started using Selsun Blue with Znc Pyrithione for my scalp to replace selenium sulfide based shampoo. My forehead has become very dry and scaly as well. My doctor prescribed Protopic 0.1 to control the eczema on my face and it worked - it definitely calmed it down. Question for you: could I use the Selsun Blue to wash my forehead (1 %) ?

When I get a "bout" of seborrheic dermatitis and I'm quick enough to act (when I just get a tiny bit of scaling/itch), washing with Nizoral 2% (letting it sit, using it properly) and then immediately after with a simple Head & Shoulders shampoo usually helps me get rid of it all after just one wash. But I have to keep my eye on it closely. If I'm too late to act on it, it's just using the Nizoral 2% consistently instead until it clears. In between bouts, washing on and off with H&S and using a harsh sulfate in between helps me not have to use the Nizoral 2% for quite a few years (of course I am not averse to my medicated shampoo, but it is costly at 14.25 euro per 100ml)! Thank you for this very informational video. I like getting to know my products inside out!

What's your opinion on Ketoconazole vs. ZP for dandruff? I read a study claiming 2% Ketoconazole is far superior to 1% ZP

What products list the percentages on the ingredients used? Apart from some sunscreens and their main ingredients, what other skin-care products are there that do this? Thanks!

I’m skeptical of them but they seem convenient for travel purposes.
