    In this video we unbox the Attec brand Pneumatic can crusher from Amazon. We go over all the tools required and then we do an assembly tutorial. Then we crush a bunch of soda cans. This is the perfect crusher for soda, beer, or energy drink cans. I would not let children use this crusher unsupervised.

    I worked for a brewery for a few years and when canning the beer, the brewers would pull random cans off the line and put them in a vice to make sure the cans could withstand a certain amount of weight. So, it's not surprising that this crusher can't crush a full can when it's putting pressure down on the strongest point on the can. For reference of how strong cans actually are, 1 pallet of beer held 100 cases of 12oz cans with each case having 24 cans, and we would stack these pallets 2 tall for space saving. Each pallet weighed about 2100 lbs.

      2,400 cans per pallet x2 = 4,800 cans on top of 2,400. 12x2,400 = 28,800oz in one pallet= 1,800 lb per palletx2 =3,600 lbs on top of the one pallet. This equals around 1.5lbs per can. And that's with misreading your comment thinking you said stacked 3 high. With 2 high it's only around .75lb per can. Sorry if my math is wrong I'm a little dumb.

    The limit on the PSI coming in might be to prevent someone from trying a full can. If the soda can has 60 PSI internally, depending on the area of the ram you are probably putting less actual pressure on the can. If there was enough pressure to overcome the internal pressure, the can would explode and probably sling aluminum bits at nasty speed. The manufacturer of the device probably prefers that not to happen.

    As far as safety of fingers inside the crusher when the button is pushed, you could either add a foot pedal at a distance over an arms length away to replace the button or add another button plumbed in series with the original one. That way it would take both hands to actuate the crusher, lowering the chances of an operator's finger being in the crushing area when it's cycled. Also, a 20oz red bull has to be pre-mashed a tad before it will fit. I remedied this by adding a spacer between the frame and the cylinder, moving the piston surface back in the frame increasing the loading area. Cans aren't crushed as flat, but its good enough for the effort.

      Safety of fingers, use the same method as an electrician working on a breaker box…….
      Use only one hand.
      Place can, then press button.

    • @HerbOMatic
      @HerbOMatic  Před 2 lety +1

      You could use an air pressure regulator, compressors have them mounted on the tank. You could start out at like 10 psi and work your way up. travel, you would have to drill a hole to install a rod in the housing to stop the plunger from returning all the way. Keep your hands out of it!

    IIRC plastic 1 and 2 liter soda bottles are designed to withstand 125-150 psi, so I'd guess an unopened can is about the same.

    I've found the box welds to be weak at the head end.. seems OK with 100% lateral force but when one side of the welds takes a greater force than lateral, snap! If you have a welder it's an easy repair.

      I've purchased three of these. We mounted the one I got for my dad vertically. We haven't adjusted the mounting position perfectly yet but it's angled away from the stud at the base (it's mounted on a 2x4 on the inside of a shed door). I think it needs to be mounted on some type of wedge. After getting several ideas from home made crusher videos online, I took the discharge air from the muffler on the return side of the valve body and plumbed it down along the side of the crusher housing and then around to the front. The can gets crushed, then while the piston is returning, the exhaust air blows the crushed can away and down into a bucket. Great video though! I picked up a couple more ideas. Thanks! One note if someone is considering redirecting the discharge air to the front..... The crushing puck and the housing are tight clearances. Because it's minimal clearance I ended up gluing it (E6000) to the face so that the tubing could sit as flush as possible while not entering the crushing zone through the hole I drilled through the housing.

    I’ve got a problem. My arm is operating backwards from what it should be doing. When nothing is pressed, the smash arm stays down. When I press the green button, the arm retracts and I can drop in a can while holding the green button down. When I let go of the green button, then it will smash the can. But it stays down in that position. How do I reverse it back to the correct pattern? Any ideas?
