    Another great tutorial, when I first started hunting I’d always be obnoxiously aggressive and it worked for maybe a few flocks. Majority of the time, less calling is more, especially for you down south. Gotta separate yourself from other hunters as in using different cadences or tossing the whistle in the mix, glad to know I’m not the only one to do that lol. Do you ever utilize any fancy calling techniques, for example Cajun squeal, bouncing hen? Going to the pond and listening to them call is the best advice to give, literally learning from the masters lol. I heard a hen do this once and omg, the pull power is nuts, 3 note call. The first is long, second is shorter with a slight squeal and the third is quick with full squeal. The volume goes down on each note like Talking loud, talking quiet, whisper. Idk if it’s because a lot of hunters typically do 5 notes and up, I couldn’t ask the ducks because 1 I don’t speak duckenese and 2 they are typically dead when I see them lol.
    Do you get a lot of Divers down there, like ringnecks, buffies, cans, redheads or my favorite Bluebills?
    Again great tutorial.

    • @riograndereaper
      @riograndereaper  Před 2 lety +1

      Ya man absolutely i cant for the life of me do a cajun squeal but im trying to figure it out but that 3 note call your talking about i totally do that in fact i probably use that more than a 5 note call. I get some divers i hear the buffle heads stop in the northern part of new mexico but ive shot merganzers, redheads, canvas backs, I even shot a golden eye once.

    • @coltencarlson6984
      @coltencarlson6984 Před 2 lety

      Yeah the mallards turn on a dime with that three note call. If you can do a bouncing hen call, you can squeal. Just gotta focus on not cutting off the notes. Once you get, it’s game over for the ducks. I’d suggest checking out duck lander calls, he has some in depth tutorials on both of those calls.
      Divers are fun to hunt especially Buffies, Ringnecks and Bluebills. They literally sound like fighter jets, usually mallards you can either hear the wooshwooshwooosh or a waooooooooooosh when they are cupped, take that and multiply it by 20 and that’s what buffies and ringnecks sound like. Very loud and very quick, sometimes you don’t even get the opportunity to call, they just drop in. Are goldeneyes pretty rare down there? I’ve been seeing guys dropping Pintails up here which is unheard of for here.

    • @riograndereaper
      @riograndereaper  Před 2 lety +1

      Oh really ya pintails are fairly common here but that is the only golden eye ive seen or shot ever here but ya i actually learned the bouncing hen because i was trying to get the cajun squeal down lol that bouncing hen works best for me on open water not so much on a river idk if you've had a similar experience

    • @coltencarlson6984
      @coltencarlson6984 Před 2 lety

      I pretty much only hunt lakes, but when I do start seeing mallards I typically toss the bouncing hen in with my feed cuts. I also use it in comeback calls and as a bridge with that lovely 3 note squeal. Can you hunt sandhill Cranes down there? I hear that they are the rib-eye of the sky.

      @riograndereaper  Před 3 lety

      You can get loud in situations where its necessary i tell people to call as much as needed but as little as possible so if you need them to come back get loud if they are interested but not committed get a little softer to keep there attention if that makes sense

    I’m so confused and need a little help I guess. I’ve been duck hunting I’ve been blowing the call. A friend of mine who is very good at it told me to put some voice into it so I have been. But everyone at duck commander keeps saying say ten. How do you pull it from your diaphragm just like your doing and use that pressurized air to do it right and get the rasp. I wanna learn the way they do since I use duck commander calls. That’s the only ones I use cause I’m a huge fan of duck commander.

    • @riograndereaper
      @riograndereaper  Před 2 lety +1

      So another way I have heard it explained was you dont want to blow hot air as if you are fogging a window you want to blow air as if you are shooting a spit ball out of a straw, you will feel your core flex a little bit kinda like if you got something on the tip of your tongue and you are trying to spit it off... Ya they say ten but i personality dont care for it. The T in ten will give a sharp note at the beginning but it just doesn't work for me personality. I like that "hoot" but like i said im not literally saying hoot im kinda making that phrase with that pressurized air. Hope this helps bro👊
