  • This is a nearly uncut version of my unboxing/first impressions video of the DM32. It is a bit slow and just more emotional than technically informational.
    If you already have the DM32, here's the latest software (2.03 as of 2023-07-08):

    Thanks for sharing your excitement and new toy. You Have a lot to learn. If you find the manuals and read them, you will learn faster, have more fun and less frustration with your toy, and have a satisfaction of accomplishment. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your DM32!

    Very nice looking machine. I quite like its straight line geometry with soft sweeps and without all the curves that some of the calculators have had in recent years. This design reminds me of those common in the 1980s when things were more geometrically made. I'm sure this calculator is very capable and is well built. Future updates should help to fix any issues or add new features. I will likely be purchasing one this year, pending a few more reviews. I still have an HP 32sii that works well, although it is getting a bit long in the tooth and is mostly in retirement. I agree with the oversight of attention to small detail about clarity of the exit keys location. Things like that drive me a bit off the edge. Such a simple thing that I find so annoying. Sort of like building a space shuttle and spelling its name wrong on the outside. Good video.

    The DM32 is on my list of calculators to get.

Guter Kanal, weiter so!

    What puts me off, beside the exaggerated price, is this ugly big font for the stack, as if it was a device for shortsighted. The DM41X managed to do much better with a status and a more reasonable font for the stack. Maybe it just didn't need such a big display. Something else annoying is that the firmware is not finished yet. And yes, the keyboard isn't as good as what HP used to build.

      I'm not a fan of the font either. It's too bold. Something leaner would look a lot better.

    If it instructs to exit and exit does not exist, that is a fundamental flaw for me to not buy this product. HP would not do that.

      The software is still in Bèta, so I suggest you wait until it is finalized before you judge. Only then you can decide to buy or not.

      Who asked you to buy it!!? If only you could pay attention to a short video, poor baby! RTFM!!? It never instructed to "exit". You had a menu of choices to guess at., and backing out with the 'C' key. Help files are in the repository and on the device itself. Better then HP! And they are not done yet. Of course they only help when READ It is a small development team compared to historical HP as well who did indeed have bugs and glitches. Real, not perceived problems. But we have someone posting a video so we can watch him futz with his toy without reading any instructions. And we have you, who have invested nothing into this endeavor except for lack of attention and whining. Thank you both. Have a good day.

    Looking at buying DM42 or Dm32. The prompt to use an EXIT key that doesn't exist gives a bad first impression.

    • @N.A._McBee

      First corrections have been made by Swissmicros, we even have the fourth firmware revision now, we're at 2.04. Whether to buy a 42 or a 32 depends on how heavily you're going to program this thing. The programming capabilities of the 42 are more advanced. Have a nice day!

      @aphantasiagreyman8445 Před rokem +2

      As a DM42 owner I think there is a lot of 42 DNA in the 32. The 42 has the same lower left key labeled EXIT hence the firmware text reference.

    • @john_hind
      @john_hind Před 11 měsíci

      @@aphantasiagreyman8445 I think Mr. McBee was doing a spot of acting to impersonate a naive user since we know from his previous and later output that he is familiar with the DM42 and must have easily guessed the 'EXIT' key was bottom row left! Having said that, the implied kicking was very well deserved: it is hard to imagine a worse first impression than being told to press a key that does not exist! Reminds me of the old MSDOS joke: 'press any key to continue', but I can't find the 'any' key (but actually much worse since that is an ambiguity whilst this is just plain wrong). Makes you wonder if they are sloppy enough to ship such an obvious bug, how many mathematical flaws are lurking deeper in the firmware?

      The DM42 is the ultimate calculator IMHO.
      I use mine every day, and i love it.
      The DM42 is a rebuild HP42S (perhaps the most legendary calculator of all times).
