  • On todays video I finally get the Hornby Dublo EDL 12 Duchess of Montrose back into running condition and try it out on the three rail test track. On the Tri-ang Super 4 Layout I run the Wrenn W2237 Lyme Regis with the Wrenn Pullman coaches from the last video and a Tri-ang L.M.S 3F Jinty pulls a few freight wagons. Thanks for watching.

    That's a lovely little tin box that you've got those brushes in

    Like others in the comments below, I too have an old Dublo Duchess which has been unused for 30+ years. So your video has motivated me to get it running again. Interesting to see the way Hornby Dublo held the brushes n springs in, not a bendable metal strip like Triang. I do have a little 3-rail track and I do remember the loco running so hopefully a similar 'light service' will see her running again.

      Hello Steve. I bet you get that loco running soon. Dublo track responds well to a gentle rub with steel wool or similar. I like the brass track variants but the steel is good too. Nothing beats the sound of the wheels rattling on that tin plate trackwork. All the best to you

    I enjoyed the Hornby Dublo servicing Jonathan, I have one myself but no track. I undertook a servicing job on it a few years ago and tested it with power leads. It ran fine. Lyme Regis is a fine looking model.
    Thank you as always. Regards, David.

      Hello David. The Hornby Dublo items are made so well it is very unusual to get a difficult one. Damaged armature windings are more often than not the worst problem. I really need to give a rewind a try out. That might be a fun video to do. All the best to you

    I so enjoy watching your video’s. These fine models are a testament to how well made they are. Will probably still be running in another 50 years time. Thanks for sharing your wonderful collection.

      Hello Adrian. I bet you're right about most of these locos still being operational for many more years. I wonder if someone will be running them still in half a century? Best regards to you

    Good morning Mr Snooze great to see the Duchess brought back to life doesn’t she run well, excellent models. Your LMS Jinty looks in much better shape than mine. The one I’ve got is glossy one side seems to be missing from the other! But runs very well. Thanks again and looking forward to next week’s video.
    Take care
    Oscar

      Hello Oscar, I've seen a red Jinty go like that. I wonder if they are varnished and it degrades? The Montrose is running well now, I need to sort the City of Liverpool now. Best regards to you

    Another great video of your trains running, I still think the Rebuilt West Country as made by Meccano Ltd and later produced by Wrenn is one of the best ever made OO locomotives, it's probably over engineered, but that's why I love it so much. An unusual livery choice by Wrenn as none of the class ever carried this in real life - it was long into BR days before they were rebuilt into this condition. The Jinty seems to be running around nicely, the X04 motor is really simple and easy to replace or maintain. As for your Duchess of Montrose, an excellent model, just needed a clean to work perfectly. I left my Dad's one in a drawer for over 10 years and when it came out, it ran straight away without any servicing - and was certainly one of the fastest Hornby Dublo locomotives I've ever owned. Your City of Liverpool looks virtually mint and not had much use at all - the armature of the City class models is usually wound around plastic - instead of the fibre card of earlier models in the range - this can sometimes deteriorate over time - my late Dad came up with his own solution when one of my engines stopped working because of this, much to my own surprise - he sprayed it with WD40 and left it overnight and it's never stopped working since!

    • @MrSnooze
      @MrSnooze  Před 3 lety +1

      Hello David, thanks for watching and I'm glad it was of interest. That's interesting information about those armatures. I really should have a go at rewinding one sometime. Sounds like your Dad had a good solution. I wonder if the WD displaced moisture, great that it did the trick anyway. Best regards to you

      @davidcann4329 Před 3 lety +1

      @@MrSnooze You should have a go at rewinding an armature, not something I've done myself, but I have a friend in North Wales that has done it for his rebuilt West Country locomotive "Barnstaple" and that seems to run even better than previously.

    Hello Mr Snooze,
    I love the Hornby Dublo 3 rail. I have many boxes of this superb and almost unbreakable railway system. No hesition over points, very serviceable locomotives that maintained last forever. No not so detailed as modern models, however, supererb considering its 56 years ago the last 3 rail left Binns Road in Liverpool. I even have a boxed terminal station. You must create a 3 rail railway as well as your superb super 4!
    Kind regards
    Pete

    It must be very enjoyable running your locomotives, especially after you've restored one back to life again. I couldn't help but notice the stack of Wren boxes to the side of the test track, it's always very exciting to see your latest vlogs, I usually watch on the TV, so only log in on the laptop occasionally but I do watch all your vids more than once and if I have a "do nothing day", then I enjoy a procession of your vids one after the other, regardless if I've seen them before, as they give so much enjoyment, as ever, Cheers, Steve

      Hello Steve, thanks for the kind comments. Most of the wagons from those Wrenn boxes are on the layout here and there. I am enjoying the Wrenn Pullmans too at the moment as well. I hope the quality is ok on your TV as my camera is fairly old now, I also think CZcams processing can sometimes downgrade quality. It is always uploaded in 1080p though. Best regards to you

    A refreshing look at getting the locomotive running, every day a school day was wondering what the yellow tab was ,2 of my triang jinty's have them and the rest have the usual tube shape type and removing from a troublesome locomotive can have an amazing improvement on performance I have found, all the best to you.

      Hello Bob, it's interesting the different suppressors fitted to our locos. I suppose they had to use what they could get at the time and sometimes components varied. I like you have had a couple with bad ones. Probably always as well to test them out. All the best to you
