    I recently purchased Ry's personal Guyatone LG-50B. Great sounding thing. Im in London and if you ever want to give it a whirl, let me know. Still has strings on it.

    Where'd you get the gold foil pickup, pulled from a Teisco or similar? Also note the Standel amp that Ry's guitar is perched on; when I saw him play in 2019 he had two Standel amps, a small tweed Fender (a Princeton perhaps?), and a Premier 88, as well as the custom-made Green Man preamp. I don't recall him using a CooderCaster but he had a Premier electric guitar, a recent acquisition he bought on Reverb, that he played slide on for Vigilante Man and other songs.

      I bought the Tesico many years ago off eBay thanks for the description of his touring amps...I think that standel he's using is a clone made recently.many thanks

    A work of art! Hey Ramon I saw your final verdict on the pickups on facebook but can’t see it here. I recently picked up a suprocaster and gold foil pickup from gemini pickups. Pretty happy with them, but the reality is they aren’t massively close to the originals. Perhaps on a par with the mojotone offering, though i can’t be sure on that. I’d like to get an original one (bridge) and hack up a guitar to house it (!) Question: can you offer any tips as to the best way to track one down . How much trial and error is involved? How much do you reckon I’d expect to pay? Cheers

    Love the video. You got me really interested in getting a coodercaster. Do you know when he started using them and on what album, cause I want to hear the earliest he started using them and what it sounded like.

    Superb! Do you notice any positive or negative difference between hardtails and strats with tremolo springs for slide? Obviously Ry preferred the sound of springs but most modern slide players tend to lean towards hard tail?

    • @RamonGoose
      @RamonGoose  Před rokem +1

      I'd say put the springs in but block it off as well with a piece of wood

      @@zdsrtgnzetmyet Okay Sean Im not a huge fan of his valco or goldfoil pickups. Ive just uploaded a video to explain - but it will get you in the ball park at least.

    Can you make a video of your top 10 Ry Cooder songs? Would be really curious to know what would be on that list.

      Here's my own personal, highly subjective Cooder "baker's dozen" list, in no particular order: How Can a Poor Man Stand Such Times and Live, Dark End of the Street; Vigilante Man; Billy the Kid; Lipstick Sunset, and Alone In the Dark (both w/ John Hiatt); Tattler; Across the Borderline; Dark Was the Night (or the opening theme from Paris Texas, which is very much in the same Blind Willie Johnson vein); Clean Up at Home (a great cover of a Sleepy John Estes tue); Travellin' Man/Police Dog Blues; Great Dreams from Heaven (or any other Joseph Spence tune that Ry played/recorded such as Happy Meeting in Glory"); and Jesus on the Mainline. These weren't necessarily chosen for the slide guitar playing, even though it figures prominently inmost of them, but instead were selected to showcase Ry's eclectic mix of folk, gospel and rhythm and blues. It also bears mentioning that if it weren't for Ry I probably never would've heard of Blind Alfred Reed, or Leadbelly, Blind Blake, Sleepy John Estes.....nor would I have heard John Hiatt (and by extension, Sonny Landreth), and Flaco Jiminez!
