#DaftPunk #Homework #DaFunk - Hudba
and here is where it all began.
Is this a reference to the sentence you can hear over the end and the beginning of the Wall album by Pink Floyd?
When you're done with a book/game/series, open the prologue and the melancholy hits...
Yup - it began here for me too
This introduced me to Daft Punk. Saw this video on MTV after a one night stand with a super hot redhead in Germany back in the late nineties at her place. Never thought I’d lose her & get a 20+ year relationship with two robots in the same night.
Thanks for all the great memories, fellas. This really is the end of an era.
@@lawax3789 i say that more for the music, because it was one of the first launched back in 95, only the clip is from 2009
This entire video felt like the beginning of a music video
yeah lol, ur not really supposed to have a skit run through the entire song but whatever...french people, what are you gonna do?
I agree
I kept waiting for it to get intense...
Yeah this feels like the beginning to a 2005 movie
As far as I understand it, Homework was them attempting to make music that fit their videos, while Discovery was them making a feature length video to fit the music.
The fact they made a fantastic song, didn't focus on it for more than a few seconds within the video, told a surreal story, got such a good mask for the protagonist, and lowered the volume of the song throughout the video is just absolutely jawdropping to me in regard to looking at it as an artistic decision.
It's also just funny to see the dog man lmao
Pretty sick observation there. First time ive heard and watched the video in at least 23 years.
Dog man?! Don't disrespect my man Charles like that!
Couldn't have said it better! I remember watching it on MCM and being amazed at a music video with a gripping storyline and the song pushed in the background as diegetic music from a ghettoblaster. Jean Baptiste Mondino used that basic element for Zazie's Tout Le Monde the following year, but he kept the song in the foreground, omitting any drama. Brilliant, inspirational stuff
Anyways, it's a short, that was already Made, it's called Big City Nights, and it's by Spike Jonze.
Yes, music is more important than a girl or anything. Music is life.
The 90’s went through a phase of making the most unpredictable / surreal music videos and it was genius, this video and Fat Boy Slim’s ‘Praise You’ come to mind.
Aphex twin "come to daddy" was probably one of the weirdest.
There was that one Fat Boy Slim music video where the dude was dancing then he started flying. I can never remember the name 🥲
@@iheartdaftpunk Christopher Walken. It was the video for the song weapon of choice
Both this video and Praise You were directed by the same guy, Spike Jonze.

True (and kinda weird too).

This song would still be popular if released today. It's 100% an all time classic
I seriously listen to it 100-250 times a month for the last few years. Nearly every day. Best video ever. I love everything about it. "Okay okay, I I just want to buy this book"
I'll never forget this video and this song because I used to watch TV a lot, my family went through angry times and fights, TV was one of my only escapes. I was usually left alone if I turned on the TV. I was watching this video for the first time and my dad came in and watched it with me. When it ended he was like that was a really good video and we had a long talk. Thank you Daft Punk.

Beatrice is pretty fit.
A movie about this concept could be great. Dog-man just living his life and going through every day issues while nobody around him acknowledges him being a Dog-man lol
Went to their Wikipedia page and it reads, 'Daft Punk _were_ a French duo... instead of Daft punk _is_ ...' that was a hard pill to swallow.
Someone probably went there just to edit in 'were'
@Mr. Davenport ibasu has a decent tutorial but it sounds like it could only work with some voices

It's interesting to note that towards the end of the song that Charles ends up under the sign Nightingale. In the poem by Keats, Ode to a Nightingale, it pretty much describes the pain of not being able to live through song that a nightingale can do. And with how Charles is pretty much living through da funk and keeping it going, it's interesting that Daft Punk placed that there, or, that it's just a happy coincidence in terms of set location :p
I cant listen to this song without the accompanying audio that the video provides. It's great. It all goes so well together.
I recently moved to NYC with a broken arm in a cast, and don't really know anyone here. Everytime I walk the streets alone with my earbuds in and music going, I can't help but feel just like this dog.
Same. (without the broken bones)
I'll hit you up broh lol
Dj d best thing about moving is you get new experiences in more lively places. Bad experience is having to actually move all your stuff and maybe meeting new people which shouldn’t be too bad maybe it’ll be a good experience going out and meeting new people
Well I know it’s been a year but welcome to NYC our little shit hole
That's cool
The fact they put their beginning at the end of their end is absolutely poetic.

Charles is a person different than everyone else but is only noticed to be different by the children who have a limited view of what’s going on. The radio also symbolizes his differences and quirks because he can’t turn them of or change who he is, just live around it, as well as his injured leg. Seeing how everyone in the comments fell in love with daft punk/ this song it is awfully relatable because Charles is willing to keep the music even though it is less important to other people it obviously helps him. Like I mentioned earlier I think the adults don’t take note because they had to grow around their insecurities and such. That’s my take at least, feel free to add or argue about it
That is a great take on the video
Yeah, but he blows it with the blonde. Fail.
Wow 👏👏👏
Beautiful.
Yeah i know what it is to be different allright.
Released in 1997, still better than most of songs in 2015.
+Dipwill Vlog tell you what give me a comparable song that came out in the past 3 years. something that in the next 10 years people will still listen to and enjoy
+James JWC Actually, it was released as a single in 1995. There were about a few thousands copies at that time I believe. Then, the single was released again in 1996 (Virgin), and finally, it came out in Homework, in 1997 indeed ;).
That was just for the information, I fully agree by the way. But hey! A Chopin's Nocturne is still better than most of the songs in 2015. If you pick a genius in music history, it doesn't get worse with time, and too many people make music easily these days! That's doesn't mean it's good.
But after all, we can't really say a song is better than another (even if I just did) since everything is a matter of taste, and you can't give objective arguments about personal tastes. Music is made to be liked, so if at least one person likes a song, then it was useful, and I'm glad that person takes pleasure by listening to music, whatever the song he likes :)
nostalgia is a big factor in personal preference
+James JWC Looks like it was filmed in the 80's :)

I guess Daft Punk is the dog. Music was always the first place in any situation for them so they had to renounce some things like friends, love and other stuff...
He couldn't switch off his radio, even though that guy told him to, he's addicted to it.
The broken leg may symbolise that they had to choose between a healthy social life or their music. But the dog whistles at the end so they sure be happy about their decision.
They are dogs, good happy creatures, but not the smartest. :)
Simon WoodburyForget sometimes if u choose to have a girlfriend u won't be able to produce music everytime u want.
Simon WoodburyForget roger that!
Simon WoodburyForget I completely disagree. I'm actually a programmer too and neglected my art slightly when I got into a long term relationship. Coming out of the relationship now I realised my ambitions should have stayed number 1 priority. Chase your goals, not love.
Simon WoodburyForget
There's plenty of people out there. You can meet them at anytime. However, you never know when you might miss the chance to follow your dream.
Simon WoodburyForget I was telling you my experiences because you were telling yours (or your lack thereof). Also worth noting my relationship was awesome, why else would I get sucked in? To make it clear what I'm disagreeing on; I disagree on putting love/relationships ahead of your drive or ambitions, or feeling that someone else or your love with someone else is more important than your goals. (Which you seemed to think was a good idea; "Love is not something you find on the side of the street, and its definitely worth more then any of your shitty music you make for a living.") I do too but I doubt they ever will. We love this cause its raw, not heavily produced, and shows the raw talent of Daft Punk. However as artists; making stuff like this again would feel like a step backwards for them for sure. They made relatively basic songs like this because its all they knew how to make when they started out. Their songs got infinitely more complex on later albums because they learned new techniques with the audio equipment they use.
Agreed. This stuff is simple and they pretty much mastered it on Homework. They wouldn’t be a great band if they didn’t progress and make 2 more great albums with radically different styles.
