    Regarding the C17 saddle. There are two versions: The original, now called the C17 Special, and the newer, less expensive C17 Weatherproof. Amazon carries the genuine product, just the less expensive one. You can tell the difference in that the original has an aluminum back plate, whereas the new version has a black plastic back plate. And yes, I found the original much more comfortable also.

      That’s super helpful, Watertank! I’m going to include this info in a future video.

    06:53 It's not weird. 😊 I say hi to everyone too especially on trails. Downtown not so much unless they're on a bike too.

    Keep waving to other cyclists, runners, and people out for a walk- even if they don’t reciprocate. The way I see it, besides simple good manners, those of us out on a bike or our two feet, are part of a community, so I say hi almost like an encouragement for those people to keep at it. If it’s early morning, I regulate my good morning to be more gentle since I know some people want their moment of meditation in the early hours. I’m always a little bummed to get nothing in return, but undeterred! Thanks for another great video Joe!

    Beautiful trail! Reminds me of Brantford rail trail I visited last year. As for who says hi vs no comments, I usually find those "fast roadies" tend to ignore my greetings as well lol

      I’m really lucky here in Madison. The trail system is amazing and most of the drivers are kind and patient. Bonus if I get an occasional hello from fast roadies 🤣

    I just got done with a pre-work sunrise ride with the same 46mm Cowchipper bars. They're great. I especially like how the flair angles the brifters such that my hands are in a more natural position.

      @GreatEgretAdventure  Před 3 lety

      I’ve mostly used 42 and 44mm 12° flaired bars and I liked them, but when I stared using these 46mm bars, I fell in love. I doubt I’ll use a shorter drop bar than that again. Spot on about how the flair puts you in a natural position.

    Hi Joe,
    I didn't know you have a 2nd channel ^^
    I was anxiously waiting for an update on the Wolverine from your main channel because I wanted to see what it's like and ask some questions.
    I am torn between buying and building up a Soma Wolverine frame and fork and hoping for the best since I can't test ride it, or get a used 2019 Kona Sutra LTD with a Dynamo Hub that I can actually try beforehand. The Sutra is almost 1000$ cheaper, has higher trail, can take wider tires, is generally more off-road-capable and most importantly, has thicker tubing and carrying capacity, because it is purpose built for carrying some touring loads of 40 pounds and up, which the Wolverine is not. This makes it supposedIy more "sluggish" when ridden unloaded and it doesn't offer nearly as much build flexibility (no sliding dropouts etc.) I plan on touring extensively this year and into the future, so the carrying capacity is very important to me. Have you ridden the Wolverine loaded? I know people have used it for touring but I have heard mixed things about it. What is your take on this?
    Stay safe and thank you :)

      Hi Pelle! I glad you found the channel over here. I’ll definitely have a bunch of updates on the Wolverine over the next few months. I’m also starting a “how to plan a bikepacking adventure” series that will cover everything from which bikes will be best, to equipment, and near the end of the series I’ll have new bike build. So your timing is pretty good. I think I might fast track an update video on the Wolverine that covers how it handled loaded.
      Let me say that building a bike from the frame up is super rewarding. You get to decide exactly how the bike is built based on what works for you, but it is WAY more expensive and, as you mentioned, you don’t get to test ride it, though many shops around here don’t offer test rides fully loaded with gear. The Wolverine is a good bike, but it is a budget friendly versatile frame that, for me isn’t the best option for long distance. I just could never find the weight sweet spot on the front. What I love about the Wolverine is that it’s a great frame to try out different setups with. In a few weeks I’ll convert it to a belt driven single speed. The Kona Sutra LTD is a great bike. That trail will make for a less responsive and more stable bike for fully loaded touring. When I’m on a fully loaded adventure, I’m not worried about a bike feeling sluggish too much. If you’re on a gravel road going downhill, you’re going to love that your bike feels sluggish because it’s proving a ton of stability. I’m not saying you should buy the LTD, but $1000 in your pocket for gear is a lot of gear. I have a ton to say about this in some upcoming videos. Stay tuned and thanks for watching!

      Thank you for your comprehensive answer :)
      Yeah that all sounds like the sutra will come out on top. I will know once I can test-ride it!
      Too bad though, belt driven singlespeed was on my mind as well ^^
      I'm excited too see how it will turn out for you.
      Cheers

    Hello! I just subscribed 🤟🏻 and have a question: would you consider this bike for long distance touring? the kind of bike touring mix terrain gravel and asphalt, it is comfortable and versatile enough?

    • @GreatEgretAdventure
      @GreatEgretAdventure  Před 3 lety

      Thanks for subscribing Omare! I built this Wolverine for long distance. It's a great bike for it. Super versatile! The balanced geometry makes it comfortable and stable while still going fast on pavement. The 50mm tire clearance and the Gravel kings are perfect for single track, forest roads and gravel. it's not perfect though. I wish there was another bottle cage holder and room for fork mounts. these are easy fixes with a fork swap. i'm going to make a video on this soon. Stay tuned! Thanks for watching!
