J. S. Bach TOCCATA in D Minor BWV 565 - Konstandinos Boudounis - Solo Cello - Live - Arranged for solo Violoncello by Constandinos Boudounis
kboudounis@gmail.com - Hudba
As a former professional cellist this is one of my top 5 cello performances. He makes it look so easy. It may not be the most technical piece but his arrangement, intonation, and pacing of this song amazing.
His double stops were insanely clean, which I’d argue are quite difficult to execute on the cello compared to the violin.
I've been a regular on this video since I found it (3 years already). Truly a masterpiece. I dont think I'll ever stop listening.
ikr i am kind of an amateur but ican play alot of songs and i can say this is abaut impossible for me
@@braydenk.8348 Completely, Cellos are much more difficult than Violins for sure. In fact, Violins are the easiest of the four classical orchestra instruments.
@@braydenk.8348 Absolutely. Unbelievable!
I wish people were more aware of how difficult it is to play with intonation this great with such a clear sound. I'm so thankful that I got to watch this video!
Very clear sound it is very nice
@@rrcc8367 There are different ways to play each piece. I played a grade 8 piece 2 months after I started - got all the notes, but sounded like trash. It's about the execution here. It's the artistry that makes a song easy or difficult, not the notes. The intonation esp on the double stops at the top end takes a lot of practice, and putting drama into a song is by no means easy. If you want to just hit the notes, ya, anyone can do it. If you want to sound good, or emotional...it's not easy.
@@nebulasky6863 Far from anybody can play this piece. It's incredibly difficult. I'm a good amateur cellist.
This video is why I chose to learn cello as an adult a year ago.
This man, to put it simply, is an absolute musical genius of a cellist.
👏👏👏👏
So I came here simply because I'm on a CZcams binge of different Instruments covering this piece, and I sort just jokingly thought to myself, "Huh I wonder if anyone has attempted this on Cello..." Not just attempted, as it turns out, but _mastered_ !
Harp versions are also great.
Oh man, 4:36 to 4:44 is possibly the most incredible sound I've ever heard from a cello.
There is a similar section to this in the third mvmt of the saint saens cello concerto if you want to hear more. Octaves are a wonderful thing on the cello.
@@nuffim3277 But very difficult to play in tune.
To the 229 dislikes, how sad for you! His style, his fingering and love for his cello is beautiful and haunting. This is why I picked up my cello after 10 yrs.
As a good amateur cellist, I'm in awe. The double stops so cleanly played are remarkable. He plays musically, with soul and perfect intonation a supremely difficult piece. Much much easier on the organ.
The reverb of the room just adds so much depth this is an incredible performance
125 organists disliked this, cause he just whooped your ass
Doing it all with two limbs instead of four is pique modern man.
Heuehehe
I damn near blew out my car speakers listening to this on break at work
Это гениальное исполнение. Страшно представить - на какой уровень мастерства поднялся. Это уровень самых великих музыкантов.
the beauty of this piece alone is fascinating but if you've ever played cello you know how unfathomably difficult this must be
Yes! Almost impossible. Far easier on the violin.
What I find most beautiful, is the Greek influence in this performance. The slight "slurs" and bending of notes at particular transitions. Gives me chills. And the acoustics are insane; the low bass resonance. This is now my most favorite version of this piece. Truly amazing. Thank you!!!
I'm not a musician. I know literally jack shit about music. I just know I like this.
u seen luke smiths new podcast?
You don't have to know anything about music to enjoy it.
Thanks, my good NPC
If you like it your a musician
it doesnt matter orange man bad!
OMG! Sweet example of why humankind deserve to be here
Technique: unconventional
Performance: incredible
Bach is amazing, you are amazing. Life is amazing.
I am amazing as well.
The angels are weeping tears of pure joy over this.

Yep
Yum Nom s
This si actually one of the most amazing cello performances i have ever seen
Δυστυχώς μόνο 1 εκατ προβολές... Φίλε χωρίς λόγια, άψογος!
The trascription in C minor is well done, and the performance is one of the best I've ever heard! Simply amazing!
Why would anyone want to downvote this. A serious young cellist. Very interesting arrangement.
Correction, this is a toccata in D minor originally, but this one is transposed in C minor for cello
Kavier V Piano That's what I thought, too. He played his open C string at 0:43 even though it's supposed to be a D. Still a great piece in any key.
Thanks Captain Obvious
what if he did a drop D tuning :P
well he didn't but it doesn't matter it's nice even in c minor
Nick Shelton
Not sure, but it would be costly.
Absolutely beautiful performance. A very soulful sound and skilfully delivered with such precision.
Holy! As a cello player myself, I though this would be an impossible piece of music to play (like this) with cello. This is marvellous! I wonder who has arranged this - maybe himself?
Very well transcribed for solo strings... and powerfully played. Impressed!
That was stupendous! What a technique, what a sound!
To the 150 people who disliked this: who hurt you ?!?!?
HE WENT OFF THE FINGERBOARD...............This is amazing
This feels like a man grasping at the gods in desperation, as he crawls over the bodies of his ambition to ascend the throne.
My favorite work for an organ. It's even been done on a harp. I wouldn't have believed it possible on a cello. This is fantastic.
I agree. I've played this piece on the piano. It's ten times more difficult on the cello. I am a good cellist but I would never be able to play this piece with such clear perfection intonation. Man is a genius.
I can't stop listening to it. It's so powerful. The sound, the echo, he's very good.
I have listened to (and watched) this video so many times. I come back to it now and then. Everytime it is such a profound experience.
Eeeehhh❤️❤️❤️👨🏼🚀🙋🏼♂️🥂🍀🎉🎶🎵🎶Pozdrav iz Serbia Belgrade cello!!!! M. Rostropovic pioner
This guy is a legend! How can one thumb down with critics about his hands positions? Thelonious Monk was a genious at playing piano and who cared about his fingering or seating position? The most important is the music not how you hold the instrument. Music is art and people express it in different ways so seat back and enjoy it.
My only question is who would dislike this?
+ Nikeyta Robinson no te gusta? debes tener cera en los oidos....es escuchas lady gaga?
lmao I was being sarcastic, I love it. I asked who would dislike it? I hate lady gaga. And you must not read English very well.
ajaja no, viste? no soy del primer mundo. Todo bien "nikita"
+Nikeyta Robinson those who watched this upside down
+Bor Ogoro lmao
The note on 1:45 would sound a little more eerie if it slowly went flat or down in pitch as it faded. It already sounds quite like that, very subtly. It’s beautiful! I always like hearing the fugue right after!
You are a masterful musician and superb cellist.. I salute you
Great transcription, powerful performance and a clear pure intonation!
It penetrated to the depths of the soul. Bravo!
Tout y est !!
Le tempo, les effets
Magnifique !!.
Thanks god i am living in CZcams era to watch this masterpiece
Vibrating those strings into a melancholic resonance streams into an exceptional serenity. Beautiful rendition!
more like in C minor!
Absolutely spectacular!
The thought that anyone could give this performance a thumbs down boggles my mind.
I downloaded it to my MP3 player...that how well this guy plays it...I am not a classic music lover but it made me lay back and think about life...
Double stops are amazing and and excellent demonstration of rubato properly employed!
This guy is is amazing, and the piece selected is golden! Haters BEGONE
Τέλειο !!!!
Like many other organists, I pretty much avoid the BWV 565, mostly just from overexposure. I have to admin though, here it sounds great! FAR better than the feeble transcriptions to the piano. Well done!!!
What a wonderful arrangement and fantastically perfect played Constandino. My admiration and respect for you. Wonderful musician!!!!! Amazing. You trancribed it 1 tone lower for the open strings BRAVO!!!
Fucking incredible.
La Toccata au violoncelle, Il fallait oser ! Il l'a fait, divinement bien !
His technique elicits a beautiful resonance from an incredible instrument that complies to perfection!! Bravo young man! Bach 😌
Solo puedo ponerme de pie y aplaudir!!! Me dejó el pecho lleno de magia esta interpretación!! Gracias por compartir
SO FUCKING BEAUTIFUL. That guy can take me home any time of the day.
Score 1 for the CZcams algorithm.
Splendid playing.

Este es uno de mis instrumentos favoritos, junto al violin y la guitarra.
Excelente interpretación del maestro, felicidades.
phew.... Cried a little bit BUT I'M OK NOW BRAVO lol
Потрясающе! This music is the 1st music that I listened to with my new laptop! 💟
So beautiful! Cello speaks to the soul!
Most beautiful instrument and the closes to the human voice.
Sorry, closest.
I love when a piece of music leaves me speechless. Well done, sir.
This was nicely arranged to get as much polyphony out of it as possible. Not only double-stops, but also using the opportunity to pizzicato adjacent strings. Bravo!
Extraordinary seeing too that he also has joint problems...amazing.
I'am gonna lie down my violin to learn cello, since this instrument suits me better in every aspect- playing this piece ob music will be my goal to achieve :D
@Private Notitia if he learned this well in 5 years i would be impressed
@@specialperson335 I think you'd have to be YoYo Ma.
Pure delight, my eyes are wet.....thank you so much for this
You obviously have that wind of inspiration and magnetism that goes beyond just technique alone. You are amazing. Thanks for blessing us with your performance!
Pizzicato and chords at the same time while soling. This is too good
I always come back to watch this... you re amazing
Impressionante! Impressive. Grande artista, great! Bravo, bravo, BRAVO! Clap clap clap!!!!
I’m speechless. I was absolutely captivated for every second.
This is just divine. A master in action. Even Bach himself would be amazed! 😯😁
you are awesome! I don't know what the heck are they talking about technique I give a damn if you play with your feet. All I can hear is an outstanding talent to articulate your rhythm and the way you pronounce your phrases and a deep beautiful sound! Thank you for sharing :)
I actually did know a one-armed cellist who bowed with his foot! He was amazing. I did a quick google search: www.cello.org/heaven/disabled/tadlietz.htm
Eu digo AMÉN ;)
Bc technically this is next to impossible.
καλὸς κἀγαθός!
I know nothing about Bach but... with my eyes closed, this is so beautiful and emotional. I love it.
Bravisssimoooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One "young" writer below (Ashley Miller) said something about technique......We all start out instructed with technique from whatever teacher you begin with but with maturity, you find out, the playing technique is NOT important....the importance is the sound.....and only the sound......if he plays upside down, left handed, with a carrot in the F hole and he has the best cello sound on earth, no one will care much about the technique....suddenly everyone will be playing upside sown, left handed with a carrot in the F hole. Of course this is exaggerated but if you don't really understand the exaggeration here, you cannot grow as a musician. Close your eyes and listen to the sound. Let that rule your judgments.
That's all true. Rigidity on technique is something you learn in SCHOOL, but it's only when you are becoming professional (and this guy plays clearly like a pro) that you can try, and adapt, and find your true style. Only the sound you make is important, focusing on the way you do it is good when you learn, not anymore when you know.
Besides, (even though I'm not a cello player) it looks like he's got tons of technique. I like when he stuck his finger out with his fret hand and plucked a couple of open stings in the last few bars. Get em!
The only thing that's actually wrong with how he's playing technique wise (the only technique that actually matters here) is his back. Leaning while playing like that will eventually mess up your back. I play cello too and i've experienced this first-hand.
Aside from your point, her critique is inaccurate anyways
@Jack Lumber didnt knew that paganini had carrots in the f hole ...
Wow... Such power!!! Truly amazing performance with excellent tone. Very impressive!
This is truly a gem here in CZcams
OH
MY
GOD!!!!!!!
BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Meu Deus, lindo demais!!!
I am in love, this man is fantastic, he and his cello make more than music, he builds substance emotion and musical colour. he inspires me to torture my own cello with poor attempts.
Beautiful. Beautiful work and a beautiful soul playing.
Iam just learning to play the cello this me need to practice more and to push myself harder that was fantastic
4:51 So good!!!!
~ presence interpretation style and that cello''s voice raised my relationship with Bach to an otherworldy level ~~
Wow! An orchestra with one instrument.
Man this is brilliant. Cello is by far my favorite classical string instrument second only to guitar. Those highs...those lows! Would love to own one sometime. This is very inspiring.
Thank you for this...this has propelled me in personal practice and is so beautifully done.
Bravo das ist super klasse danke dafür
...and thank to the person for not moving too much the camera! I learn a lot from seeing what dimitrios is so well doing!
I bought a violin but I’ve lately been looking at cellos thinking it may be easier to learn.
Far more difficult than the violin. I started cello at age ten and have become a good amateur cellis. Professionally I'm a literary translator. I studied violin for two yrs and was very surprised at how easier the violin is than the cello.
Sorry, cellist.
Both difficult, just requires two different physiques when it comes to your hands. You need long fingers with narrow palms to play violin. People with wider palms and mid sized fingers do best with cello. I was an awful violinist, but it’s just because I didn’t have the hands for it. Cello has been much less frustrating for me.
Extraordinario, so fined..
Big magic musician..
God bless alwais yuar life and giant art..im a guitarist..I can see yuar top one level super junger master..
Thank Yu very much spetial for shared. Pleae yu receve my hug.
Thank Yu.
Man, nothing sounds so great as a cello played well. Excellent work.
Even with my crappy speakers you can tell how perfect that cello was built, perfect strings and bow and just pure talent playing it.
thanks for being, and sharing this wonder!
