You’re either in the rifling or your not. Find touch and keep it simple. That’s how my brain works. Good episode.

I’d love to have one of these guys check my rifles ignition and timing. I know I don’t have any spring drag. I have tuned the cocking piece and shroud and I think it’s good to go. By tuning, I mean I have remove material and polished the cocking piece mainly where it impacts or rides the trigger sear. Great content, thanks!!!

Do you figure just temperature? Or does other factors like water grains come into play ?

You're doing it wrong!!! You pop the top off of the bottle and flick it across the room. It don't go back on the bottle until it's empty, or the sun rises. Whichever comes first. :)

Isn't the group size the determining factor in tuner settings.

JAM is SUCH a confusing topic that trips shooters up all the time. Great job explaining it Erik. Finding JAM and reducing by 20 thousandths back from JAM will still have you into the lands. I run into shooters that tell me they are jumping by 27 thousandths from JAM, when I tell them they are still touching the lands they argue and say that they aren't. It always make me laugh when they say that.

As a test this morning I went and measured things again on my 22GT rifle. I didn't need to but I figured, "what the hell". I found JAM 3 times in a row at 2.1005 on my 22GT. Then I decided to test for "TOUCH" to see what the difference would be. I found TOUCH consistently at 1.978" using the "Speedy" method. So the distance between "TOUCH" and "JAM" on my rifle is 0.1225". That whole length of .1225" is considered "INTO" or "IN" the lands.
If I subtract 0.020" from 2.1005" I get 2.0805". So 2.0805 is my starting point to keep me safe from STICKING a bullet. So from there I have 0.1025" to work with where the bullet is still "TOUCHING" the lands. So when I say I'm "JUMPING" my bullet .027", that means I'm jumping .027" from JAM, not touch. I also tested with the Hornady OAL gauge and got a consistent 1.8337" measurement. I think the "Speedy" method for finding "TOUCH" is more accurate because the bullet is held tight and centered in the bore each time, whereas the Hornady gauge will allow the bullet to touch the lands off centered. Maybe if it were a steel rod instead of plastic rod it would/could be more accurate.
