    I slightly disagree with Yasir Hussain’s statement. Everybody whose supporting Imran Khan at the moment is supporting him for the betterment of Pakistan and not for their own interest. I’m supporting him because I believe in him. And not because I want a repayment for me supporting him once he gets into power again. Their is a difference between supporting someone selflessly without wanting a repayment and supporting someone for your own interests so you could get repaid. My perspective only.

      When someone in your army makes a comment on foreign policies by openly supporting the war mongering USA, , when the Pakistani government has refused to sanction Russia then you should all stand up and take notice, that it’s not the army who is elected to govern but a political party! This is the main issue that the army has one role the government has another, and they should not be interfering with foreign policies, as they are not the elected as a foreign minister! This my dear is how you should view things if you really want to support democracy! Don’t imbibe the blood thirsty war mongering narrative of the USA! Celebs are citizens. So they are free to express their views about any aspect of the country.
    But celebs are also influencers because more people listen to their views and follow them than they listen to the average Tom, Dick and Harry. In fact, many ordinary fans and followers of celebs will blindly believe anything said by their favorite celebs.
    So it is essential that these celebs take great care to never lie or move away from news/facts while expressing their views.

    I have a slightly different perspective on celebrities taking a public political stance. I mean, not just in Pakistan but india, u.s and elsewhere. No matter what your political opinion is, everyone wants the betterment of their nation- how we differ is what we consider a nation state to be and what we understand when we say development. We follow a celebrity on the basis of their social media persona and their work. All of us come from different walks of life, have varying degrees of privileges and struggles. So many a times, their opinions either come across as ill informed or even privileged. When we state our political opinion on social media, we are opening it to public discourse and discussion. As a celebrity, this scrutiny is much higher. It can also be very vicious and divisive, not just for the followers but even for the celebrity themselves. You guys mentioned Anupam Kher and Kangana. They are a perfect example of how their open and staunch political opinion has not only alienated them from the masses, it has also pigeonholed them into a certain kind of project. Not all of us can divorce their work from their politics anymore. The divisive nature of political conversation is never ending and widely impacting. In words of Pete Davidson’s sketch on SNL about Kanye, “Kanye is a genius, but like a musical genius. Like Joey Chestnut is a hot dog-eating genius, but I don’t want to hear his opinion about things that aren’t hot dog-related.” Same goes for politics.

  • @mahadfraaz218
    @mahadfraaz218 Před 2 lety +23

    Just one question kind of destroys the whole argument: is there any one objectively, morally MORE sound than Imran Khan has been? Two wrongs do not make a right, but I would still vote for someone like Imran Khan any day because he doesn’t have the allegations and background that these other politicians have. If you’re going to grill him for his tactics, I understand, but you better grill the rest of these politicians for their stunts which have been much, much worse in the past. Also, blocking people on Twitter or deleting comments that don’t share your opinion is probably not the best thing to do because it just narrows your mindset. Let people have open conversations about this so they can decide who to vote for. If someone’s leaving hate comments I understand, but if they have a different political view it’s ok. As far as celebrities are concerned, just a few questions - are they human? YES. Can they vote? Yes. Are they allowed to express themselves on their platforms? Yes. You can’t tell celebrities to shut up about their political views just because the people following them are not actively caring about the situation in our country. The fear is that posts glorifying IK are brainwashing people - how is that the celebrity’s fault? They can’t post their whole thought process behind their support for IK because people will probably roast them for that too. As a consumer of any celebrity’s content it is your job to do your research and make an opinion with your own brain. If people don’t understand the concept of making an opinion and not blindly following, for example, Mahira khan, then that’s not her fault it’s the viewers fault. Yes, celebrities have a responsibility with their platforms but they are by no means obliged to do, or not to do something out of the fear of brainwashing their audience.

In my opinion Pakistani actor are not just awesome in their work but are also stunningly beautiful. And now Pakistani TV needs to keep on polishing n shining furthermore n stop focusing on “Humanly” statements made by Ahsan Khan. No one needs to have a degree in politics to express an opinion or have a more evolved take on politics. That’s a very elitist mentality to dismiss others as simply unaware and blind. Tolerance is key when hearing opposing opinions, whether these followers are ‘blind’ or ‘cognizant’ are not for us to judge if they live and pay bills like everyone else. Let’s all evolve and and learn to agree to disagree. If there is no abuse involved there is no need for censorship either, no blocking, no deleting. So yes celebs should be allowed to openly have an opinion and they should not be judged as blind or unaware.

    Celebrities have absolutely a right to voice their political opinions!! In fact i think all should esp when it comes to the sake of our country. At the monent majority that have spoken out have been supporting PM Imran Khan and thats because they passionately support his cause & what he stands for. I also support Imran Khan as a die heart fan & always will. So as we as citizens have a right to publicise our political opinions why shouldn’t celebrities? I strongly oppose what Reham Khan & Hina Pervaiz Butt (PMLN MPA) about cricket players & actors speaking up for their favourite politican - its ridiculous because they love it when someone from showbiz (very few) support their party! Some people think just cause celebrities may be famous or rich then they don’t get affected by the govt which is untrue!
    Also Hassan, i didnt appreciate you calling pti supporters hypocrites. You can have a different opinions but the wordings in your tweets were confrontational & rude for no reason!
    Also Yasir Hussain’s comments were extremely stupid. These celebrities aren’t being paid for supporting IK, they like doing it themselves out of interest so his comment or request was extremely silly.

    While I agree Celebs are entitled to voice their political opinions, is it smart though to possibly alienate a segment of the viewership that does not agree with them n now see them in a different light? Liberals might have applauded Meryl Streep for openely criticizing Trump but 49.6% of the country that voted for him now looks at Streep differently. Same with Kangna Ranaut. With her Anti minorities n pro Hindutva views out in the open now, many viewers (including myself) have stopped watching any of her work. Perhaps from a business pov, silence is golden. Gerta Garbo knew that better than anyone else. 'Hold something back. Glamor is remote'.

    Everyone should take interest in politics. One may not vote but people should be aware and keep themselves up to date on what’s happening in politics since they play a huge role in our lives. But beyond that one should be patriotic to the country, governments will come and go, but the country will remain. IA whoever comes has the best interests for Pakistan and its people, especially for the underprivileged and destitute.

They don't realize that what Suri did was play with the grey area of the constitution. No article of law was broken. But Supreme Court actually broke article 69 when they meddled into the parliamentary affairs. Also now nobody can deny the absolute biasness of Supreme Courts as they are only giving verdicts in favour of Sharifs. Also, what was the logic of opening courts in the middle of the night?

    You know with politicians, that line from the Dark Knight movie holds true..”You either Die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become a villain”
    No matter how good you are, what agendas you had, once you are in politics, you’re a “Politician”, you’re not a Lone Ranger anymore.. you *play* the political games, you play hard & dirty to make sure you’re in power, so you can bring your agendas to fruition! You may be a good person.. but are you a good politician? Can you be one? I don’t think so!
    Take, Indian PM Modi, no matter the hate he gets.. he doesn’t care, he doesn’t answer to the hate, because he knows that’ll never end! He knows he governs this huge, diverse, highly populated country & he knows he cannot please everyone, he does one thing & that’s governance, sees to it, that his country is flourishing, he has a great foreign policy & diplomacy going, his government makes sure they have steady investments! He doesn’t let anything else distract him, because, in a country that diverse, and with so much technological & digital advancement, people are always going through something or the other & it’s always going to be the government’s fault! IK can follow the same strategy.. just focus all his energy towards the betterment of the country, strengthen the foreign policy, increase GDP! stop giving any attention to the opposition & the politically stirred drama!
